Final thoughts on the PLL Finale
Going into it, I truly, deeply wanted A.D. to be Mona. I knew that the chances of that were low, not super low, but low enough. I knew that I. Marlene was going to throw a twist (the twist being the twin), so I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be Mona, but then I just didn’t know where to go from there.
The first hoodie reveal, I knew there was no way it was Melissa. I felt that her emotions after killing Bethany were real and that she wasn’t someone who could stoop so low for any sort of reason.
As you can imagine, the second hoodie reveal threw me for a loop and for a second, just a mere second, I was praising myself inside because I wanted it to be Mona. That literally lasted a second and then I realized that it’s way too early in the episode for it to be Mona. I wasn’t disappointed, but I was eager to see who A.D. really was.
I started to think back on the episode where “Spencer” was with Wren at the airport and I didn’t want to believe that Spencer had a twin, but I guess logically and genetically, after all the babies that Mary and Jessica had, there was bound to be a twin in there somewhere. That’s why I ended up relinquishing to the fact that Ali was a twin. That was a stupid thought of mine since Emison was Endgame and no matter how you look at it, Ali having a twin would ruin that relationship in a snap.
So...finally, before the big reveal, I figured it had to be Spencer’s twin.
My thoughts on that. I didn’t like it only because I didn’t want to think that there are people like that out in the world. I understand that Alex was basically thrown out like trash and Charlotte was the only one that made her feel loved (besides Wren) but for her to believe all that Charlotte told her, is something I don’t want to believe in. She hadn’t met the girls, Charlotte was crazy, and Spencer wasn’t the one who chose her adoptive parents. Why get revenge on someone who wasn’t in control of either of the twins lives?
Overall, I think I can understand why I. Marlene ended it the way she did. At first, I didn’t like how it ended because it says something to the continuation of bullying and revenge. But I think I. Marlene specifically wanted it like that. Her show was different and that’s what drew so many people to it. In real life, sometimes these things happen and the cycle doesn’t break unless someone speaks up. Emily tried to pass on her experience and knowledge of the situation to her students and tell them that they are able to make their own choices in life, but they decided not to listen and so continued the circle. I appreciated that so much because it’s reality and not everything can be unicorns and rainbows.
To a great show that took up seven years of my life, Congratulations on the success. Thank you for a wonderful time. It was a journey and I loved every minute of it. Cheers!
