“Oh, it’s your first Halloween huh? Well. In a couple of weeks, you get to dress up, get candy and we can carve stuff into these big orange things called pumpkins.”

Her head tilted to one side. “You get candy for dressing up?” That sounded odd. Could only stare in confusion. “Carve the pumpkins? Why?”

“Hi princess.” He nuzzled his daughter with a smile. “Guess whats been growing in the garden? Pumpkins!”

Her head tilted to one side. Brows knitted with confusion. “Pumpkins...?” She asked with a hint of confusion.

This earns a small giggle, and her leaning in to place a kiss on his cheek.

Sees all her siblings.

“Well people are different than animals.They don’t have to grow as much.”

“Oh... So how big are they going to be?”

“P… pop?” He wasn’t one to really doubt Eri, especially when she seemed so earnest. “Well, this I can handle.”

He plucked the sword from her grasp and willed it away with a flash. Much safer packed away where he knew it could be than in a box or bin. “But the other stuff… Mmm, we need something better than this, right? So your… bubble friend doesn’t pop.”

“He’s not a bubble, and he isn’t my friend. He’s a person, and my d-... Beta.” Eri glanced at the bin. her head tilting to one side. “He just said earlier he was ready to pop. So I don’t want him to pop.” Eri explained as she walked over and looked into the bin. “What would be better...?”

“Well they need to grow. They start out really really small, and grow until they’re ready to come out.”

“But animals don’t wait so long...”

“No no. Not like that. But they will be born and you’ll get to meet them.”

“Why does it take so long...?”

“No he’s not going to pop like a balloon. The babies still have a couple of months.”

“H-He’s going to pop when the babies are born?!”

[breakreason]

“Because that’s just the best way to describe how he feels.”

“So... he’s not going to pop like a balloon?”

“Unless I give you permission, you don’t touch my things.”

She sits down on his floor and stares up at him.

“Oh, sweetie. It’s okay. He’s not going to pop. That was just him being silly.”

“... Why would he say that though?”

[breakreason]

“Um…. I don’t think that–”

She’s already gathered up his sword, but by the time she’s across the room it vanishes from among her collect and reappears in his hand.  “What’s going on?”

It was a heavy sigh as the sword disappeared. She turned around and tried to take the weapon again, so she could return it to the trash bin. “No sharp things.” She announced firmly. “Beta said he’s ready to pop. So we have to keep it sharp object free.”

He’s got his own pretty knife that Eri is not allowed to touch. Don’t ask him where he got it, either.

But Beta could pop!

“E- Eri..!” He’s trying to waddle after her. “Sweetie, please don’t run with those. That’s very dangerous! UH– Let’s uuuhhh put them in here for now..?” Beta suggested as he quickly grabbed a pot. 

“That’s why they have to be hidden, because they’re dangerous.” She stopped her running to look at the pot. setting down the gathered items she went to take the pot closer to the drawer, in which she immediately started to desposite the knives into.

“What’re you doing princess?”

“Beta won’t pop if there’s nothing sharp he can pop from.”

They watch Eri run by. "What's that in your hand?"

What’s in her hands? She looked at the basket. “A bunch of knives and scissors!”
