The Expanse 5x10 - Nemesis Games

I haven’t been posting while I binged this but time for... the last episode

I’m LOVING Naomi’s plotline rn, the survival, the just-barely-not-helplessness

I think Holden might be the best example of a compelling paladin I’ve ever seen. he always does the right thing no matter what it costs him. and it costs him a LOT.

the out of focus stars are actually great for giving us a sense of speed, this is masterclass

these consequences for drummer feel very good to see. she made a choice and the cost was known. and now it’s coming to roost.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 final thoughts

Things are coming up Disco! TBH I was not super stoked for this season because S2 was kind of a mess. It was still an improvement over S1 in lot of ways, which was mostly a mess. But I think it delivered!

It wasn’t incredible or anything, but it was solid in a lot of ways. Nicely paced plot, a few contrivances, but not that far outside of normal star trek bullshittery. Many episodes had good arcs in themselves that also contributed to the main plot. The character development was much improved too, with a lot more moments feeling earned rather than forced.

I’m glad they went to the future because they finally are no longer burdened by continuity nearly to the extent from before. I also think that the choice to decimate the Federation was a great one overall. I don’t know if the similarity between it and the Roddenberry-inspired Andromeda are coincidence or not, but it’s an extremely fruitful premise that gives a lot for our crew to do and pulls them in many directions at once.

Overall, I liked it. Not my favorite Star Trek ever, but I’m glad and also hopeful for the future of the series.

One last detail though: does Tilly stay first officer? If not, who would be new XO?

My brain’s answer: Owo for XO. No, Owo for Captain. No, Owo for Admiral. No, Owo for PRESIDENT.

Star Trek: Discovery 3x04 - Forget Me Not

I realized after my last post that them explaining joined Trills is mostly to get viewers who aren’t familiar with lore up to speed. And given that there were 100s of species in the Federation, stands to reason not everyone knows the details of all of them. Joined Trill are relatively uncommon after all.

Glad Detmer is getting some character development, the ancillary bridge crew has largely felt flat for a while.

Michael being interrupted in the log that she’s not doing is kinda weird, but it works in the flow of the scene
