My top 5 Trenda moments in TST
So unsolvedmaze asked me this last night & I wrote a beautiful 6 paragraph essay thing & then tumblr fucking erased it!!! You can see my stupid short post here & laugh at me. Either way, here are my fave moments:
1. Ok the entire scene where they talk about Chuck & George in the tent after Thomas gives her some of his blood is numbah 1. Thomas & Brenda’s conversation just completely captures why their relationship is so great, not to mention that we can see onscreen their relationship developing even further. They’ve both lost someone they really care about. They both have trinkets they carry around to remind them of Chuck & George. But I think my favorite moment is when Thomas lets Brenda hold onto the little doll Chuck carved. She’s already crying about her brother, but when he tells her that Chuck sacrificed himself for Thomas, you can see her eyebrows crinkle like she’s in pain & doesn’t want to cry some more. It’s such an emotional scene & I’ve seen a lot of people say they cried during that scene. The acting was just so great, but the scene actually ends with some hope. They both smile at each other. They’ve both been through the same shitty experiences, but they have each other and understand each other in a way maybe other people wouldn’t.
2. Speaking about parallels, they both say “I got you” to each other in two different scenes, which I feel encapsulates their entire relationship since they’ve really got each other and care for each other all throughout the tunnels and even after. Maybe I’m cheating by mentioning 2 scenes, idk, but Thomas tells Brenda “I got you” when he’s holding onto her at the edge of the building (which is so great) and she says “I got you” to him when she’s shooting at all the WCKD guys AND JANSON as they’re trying to attack Thomas. She’s literally got his back and saves his life so many times.
3. When he ditches the group to run after Brenda & because of that, entrusts his life with her. But this also brings up ANOTHER parallel that is me cheating also because I’m mentioning 2 scenes.
Brenda runs after the picture of her brother that she had forgotten as they’re running away from WCKD, but Thomas also does the same thing with the little doll Chuck made. He runs back to the helicopter at the beginning of the film because he also forgot it.

4. Which leads me to the scene when they’re underground in the tunnels right after the explosion and Thomas sort of seems like he’s lost hope in trying to find a way out. He’s always been the one leading and trying to get everyone out and it’s in this scene where Brenda says something like don’t worry. I’ll get you out. This is when she’s looking for the flashlights & they’re about to go down the tunnel.
This time, he’s following her, which he hasn’t been put into that position as much and yet again, entrusts his life to her.
I also think this scene completely captures what Rosa’s talking about here:
“[Thomas] never loses hope. That’s his character’s strength, but you can see him start to wrestle with that and then he meets [Brenda] and he’s like, ‘Whoa, here’s my counterpart. Here’s my female counterpart. She’s tough…’ It’s almost like he’s like, ‘Oh great, someone I can be partners with. I’m not just gonna lead you. You’re gonna lead me sometimes.’ And you see him taking a load off and trusting her and she’s trusting him, so it’s a lot about trust. It’s a lot about his being teamed up with someone who is as scrappy as he is.”
5. Thomas running after and screaming for Brenda when the tent she was in was on fire, but she’s not actually in it because she escaped, but he’s still terrified that she’s stuck in there. And gah his little face, but yet again, Brenda saves him and pulls him away and calls him a dumbass because he almost got himself killed.

i wanna speak on the dylan issue that has been going on tumblr this day about him and the whole tst cast disrespecting the indian burial grounds. yes what he and all of them did was wrong and it was disrespectful and no one should overlook that mistake and just let it pass cause he is “dylan my favorite” but that doesnt give you a right to go calling him racist when if anything he was offensive and uneducated and hopefully will learn about his mistakes. but what pisses me the fuck out that some people take this opportunity to condemn him and label him as a bad person or as a racist when he made a mistake that again should not be overlooked just because he is a celebrity, yet i swear some of you thrive on celebrities fucking up just to hate on them like if you havent done anything problematic things yourself, like if you were perfect af and didnt make mistakes and learned from them, so dont be a fucking hypocrite. and also calling ALL his fans white doesnt make you any better, when all of you know thats not true. what dylan did was not cool, he was fucking stupid and hopefully he and all the other cast got their ass whooped and learned from it, but he is not a bad person and i wont tolerate people on my dash calling him a racist thanks

So yeah, he never explicitly says so but leaves it kinda open for interpretation.
Ooh okay! Because I also thought Newt was gay so he’s sort of leaving it up to us to accept their sexualities as whatever we want them to be. He probably has an idea of whose sexuality is what, but won’t say until years have passed maybe.
