Mr. Cotton pauses are the peak of harmony hills to admire the magical world surrounding him. He has his eyes set on the tall, and twisting piano stairway which he must climb to continue his journey. Listening to his favorite tunes played by his flowery friends; He is filled with the determination to move forward. He clears his mind of all worries, closes his eyes, and takes several deep breaths. Feeling relaxed he opens his eyes and begins his next adventure.
Today I completed the final touches on a digital drawing Iâve been working on for a while. It was inspired by music, and Mr. Cottonâs fun adventures on Line Play. The flowers resemble musical instruments, and the fluffy character is Mr. Cotton.Â
Hereâs the rough sketch where it all started and the line art which was surprisingly challenging. The imaginary perspective of the piano stairway, sketchy âsound cloudâ and âpipe organ mountainsâ proved to be more difficult to draw that I thought. Also this was my first time using and finishing a drawing in Paint Tool SAI. The adjustable speed of the lines are pretty neat as well as the wide variety of custom tools and options compared to Photoshop.
Hi! I've been playing the Japanese version of Catch of the Day and although I can read Japanese I'm not fluent so there's certain information I can't find.. Your guide helped a lot and I wanted to thank you! Just wondering but are there recommendations for which type (A B or C) to synthesize your rods to? Also, how do I obtain the Sure Item you mentioned in your guide?
Hello! Sorry for the late reply. Youâre very welcome and Iâm glad you found it useful. The game mechanics are already a lot to understand in English, so it must be a real challenge in a foreign language! Good luck!Recommended Evolution for RodsIâm hoping the A B or C youâre referring to is rod evolution or else that might be a new feature Iâm not sure about. Overall most rods are best when evolving them to Divine Strength (A) for power. Next is Divine Wisdom (B) if the gimmick is worth it when it reaches level 100. Last is Divine Skill Š if you have powerful gimmicks, and having an extra gimmick slot would boost your damage more than Divine Strengths power or Divine Wisdomâs gimmick.  The wiki article here goes more in-depth if you want to know the exact details.Making or Obtaining Sure Drop GimmickIf the âSure Itemâ youâre talking about is the Sure Drop gimmick you can obtain it from either evolving gimmicks, from an event, or the auctions with bid balls.
If you want to make one yourself you can check out the guide here:Mr. Cottonâs Catch of the Day GuideSection 10 explains how to evolve gimmicks, and section 11 shows which gimmicks evolve into the Sure Drop gimmick. Hereâs a quick summary of what you need:Streak Enabler or XP Booster (Rare) at 100 Atk/300 Crit evolve to:Pearl Booster (Super Rare) at 200 Atk/600 Crit which then evolves to:Sure Drop Gimmick (Ultra Rare) with 1000 Atk and 3000 Crit at max!*Including specific Prize Catch Boosters to evolve gimmicks at max stats.
What a surprise! Line Play update 4.0.0.0 arrived on March 1st, and with it a bunch of fancy new features have made their way into the Line Play world. After updating the app youâll notice an improved icon featuring Cherry as well as beautiful artwork of her lively character. She takes center stage showing off currently trending fashion sets from gachas on the redesigned loading screen; which does a better job at highlighting the in-game tips.Â
Welcome Home
A familiar friend welcomes you perched on a small bench beside your traditional home. Sally has the latest news of any events going on, and 3 shiny bubbles to the right display the brand new set of features Line Play has to offer. The latest home screen takes inspiration from the earliest Line Play version, but it feels lonely without the presence of Cherry and colorful cube-like buildings resembling a small town. The grey matter in the background surrounding it only adds to the feeling of emptiness. Itâs like the designer decided to knock down Line Play town and shoveled the debris into a bag labelled âmoreâ. Everything is now at least 2 taps away, and although itâs not as crowded it feels as if something is missing (besides the mailbox).
Home Sweet Home [Large Image]
A subtle detail that caught my eye a few hours after the update was the changing background of the home screen. It changes depending on the time of day in your particular time zone. Seeing how there are 3 different backgrounds (morning, afternoon and evening/night) means it changes approximately every 8 hours. Sadly itâs not a live transition during those times, but instead needs to be triggered by reloading the home screen. It would be amazing if the developers could code a dynamic background that came to life. The day would begin as the sun rises up, clouds moving with the wind, a few flowers growing beneath your feet, then stars twinkling in the night sky, a big bright full moon, and someone with a wild imagination wishing it was all more than just a dream.
Daily Gem/Star Login Rewards
Recently Line Play changed the login reward reset time to 9am EST / 6am PST. Iâm not sure why they changed it, but itâs now 7 hours earlier and no longer follows the usual quest reset time. If you're a veteran Line Play-er you already know a lot has changed since the early days of daily login rewards. There used to be at least 3 mystery â?â items rewarded every month. Itâs always an exciting moment to reveal mysterious monthly fashion items. They had fun themed designs, and the item near the end of the month was occasionally a free aura! Imo it was worth the wait and better than gems.Â
Less Gems is More?
Iâve seen many complaints that before the update the total daily rewards were actually more than they are now. Itâs true that you get 2,000 less gems, however thatâs not counting the free stars allowing you to rank up for free. Also the VIP system rewards you 5,000 gems (or 24,000 gems total for the month) for ranking up to a gold crown which includes other great benefits!
Changes for the better...
If you havenât kept up to date with the notices or updates Line Play made a few minor and major tweaks which have quite a big impact on the overall game.Â
Pet Quest for 300 Gems
Pets have joined Line Play as well as a new quest to earn 300 gems everyday for petting any 3 pets!Â
Room Quest reduced from 20 friends to 5
It was difficult enough, and way too time consuming when you had to invite 20 unique friends, but now it only requires 5!
Send 20 Hearts for 500 gems
Sending 20 hearts now rewards you with 500 gems instead of 300! You no longer get 10 gems for sending a heart to someone, but the extra 200 gems makes up for it.
Avatar of the Day
This feature has been wiped from Line Playâs existence for now. It was cool being avatar of the day way back then, but over recent changes itâs become less and less relevant. Being avatar of the day a long time ago was somewhat on the same level of being a celebrity. Everyone knew you were avatar of the day, you got showered with friend requests, diary comments/stickers, and having your avatar posted in friends and strangers diaries if you didnât already figure out whatâs going on. In update 3.0+ it was revamped as âsuggested friendsâ and lost some of itâs appeal. Apparently friends had different avatar of the day avatars, so none of them really stood out anymore. Even brand new avatars were given an opportunity in the avatar of the day spotlight. Itâs nice being one of those new players and getting a ton of friend requests, but most of them are actually spam/helper accounts. Their one purpose on Line Play is to send hearts or gifts to their true masters or friends. This limits the avatar of the day spots for average people you can have conversation with or expect any response from. Itâs not gone forever though; I have a feeling that the feature will return in the future once they work out the kinks in it.
Heart Spam Drama
In update 4.0.0.0 theyâve removed the ability to âheart spamâ or give someone numerous hearts on a picture they posted in their diary profile. There was no limit on how many hearts you could obtain on your profile. In other words this was literally a loophole for an endless supply of âfreeâ gems if you put in the effort. Every heart is 10 gems for you and the player receiving the heart, and after a while things start to add up. Thousands of players were taking advantage of this feature by creating multiple avatars to send hearts, and accumulate a large sum of hearts and gems with ease. Line Play went to the extent of banning players with ridiculous amounts of hearts, but that only served as a temporary fix. To solve the chaos they brought upon themselves they simply removed the problem all together in the new update. A sudden change taking away the majority of players source of âfree gemsâ has flipped the community upside down though. It only makes matters worse due to the fact that Line Play revolves around in-game currency and âluckâ. If they had fixed this sooner it might not have blown up in their face like it did recently. Itâs pretty ironic that players are upset about a feature being removed, when they are the ones who are the reason for it. Until then I hope the system is being revised and will return in the future with some restrictions.
Recycling Reborn
Recycling has been reworked boasting the bonus it deserves. The recycling system now rewards up to 4x the amount of gems you would normally receive depending on your VIP rank. Mondayâs used to be the days to recycle for a 2x recycling bonus, but now its any time, any day as long as youâre at least a gold crown rank. The only issue is that some duplicate items donât stack and are valued at 0 gems, although Iâm not sure if this is still a problem with 4.0.0.0.
Revised Gem Prices [View Table]
Whatâs the most bang for your buck? The obvious choice is the Play Pass if youâre a daily player with patience, and not interested in VIP benefits. If you absolutely need gems because thereâs a new gacha, and you must have loads of gems right away to get the items you want thatâs a whole different story.
Right away you can see that they bumped up prices of all gems and removed either the 5.99/11.99 deal. Maybe they wanted to simplify it or it didnât fit in with the new VIP star system. The regular amount of gems you receive when there isnât any bonus gem sale are in grey, and the gems per dollar are listed above the sale prices in black. Thereâs some really strange values, but previously without any sales you got a handful more gems more for your money.Â
If you look at the bonus gems before and after youâll see that you get a lot more gems, but youâre only able to get that bonus once. After the first purchase you get less gems than before. Â
Gem Price Conclusion
Countless people are upset over new gem prices, so I made a table comparing the old gem prices with the new gem prices including the VIP diamond rank 10% bonus (which I assume lasts for every purchase during the rest of the month that you are diamond rank if bearing the diamond crown isnât enough). In conclusion you do get slightly less gems (to be exact about $5~$10 comparing the highest purchase of $99.99), but its a trade off for the many special benefits of being a VIP member which imo seems worth it.
Revised Cash Prices
I wonât go into too much detail unless someone specifically requests a full comparison table similar to the gems. Itâs pretty much straight forward that youâre getting a tad less cash at the price of VIP benefits. VIP doesnât come cheap, and I donât think Line Play has any intention of lowering costs. In a few other games Iâve played VIP can cost upwards of $500. Updating the game, adding new gachas and hosting servers isnât free. You have the freedom to make a fuss about it, but there are two things you should consider. Is it really worth ruining your mood and being upset over a game over the slight amount of cash youâre missing out? The prices are set in stone however it doesnât represent the various sale/bonuses Line Play may have in the future.
In the end itâs your decision whether you choose to support Line Play or not. As a free to play player it would be nice to earn a little cash in-game, as it does feel limiting not being able to spin newly released gachas. Maybe give players an option to use gems or cash to spin, or allow cash to have a better chance of getting rarer items like it does with the Jackpot wheel (I think?). The free gem styles and costumes are getting old and not everyone can afford cash/VIP.
VIP Benefits [Large Image]
This is the pride and glory of the 4.0 update. Quite a few people would say the opposite and who knows, maybe itâs a curse? Most of it is already explained in the picture above, but Iâll elaborate on a few things that may not be clear.
VIP Castle
If you reach platinum rank you gain access to the VIP castle which is exactly what I figured it would be. A very fancy âofficialâ Line Play avatar room. There you can see all of the items available in the gacha right before your eyes, and even the Queen herself! (Iâll add a picture when I have access later on).
Stars & VIP Crown Ranks
Stars are earned by purchasing gems, cash, hearts or through special promotions (such as a lucky bag). You can also get up to 75 stars for free every month which can rank you up from a white crown to gold. For the month of March 2016 only, youâre exclusively able to achieve platinum rank for about 5-6 days before the month ends. After that every month you will reset to white crown rank. The max rank for logging in collecting the daily bonus is gold crown (with 20 extra stars). At first I thought It was 200 stars total to diamond, but thatâs actually the number of stars to the next rank. So thatâs 55 stars to gold, 130 stars to platinum, and 330 stars to the elusive diamond crown rank.
VIP Diamond Crown Rank
Money wise itâs about $274 per month to hold the diamond crown above your head; assuming you login everyday to claim the free stars and there arenât any special promotions. Thatâs 2 x $100 (190 stars) + 1 x $50 (49 stars) + 1 x $24 (24 stars) purchase for a grand total of $274 including 338 stars, 1775 cash, and 15k gems for ranking up. You could buy gems as well, but whatâs the point if the VIP castle/gacha requires a cash fee to try your luck. Also most animated gacha require cash to spin. Technically Line play is giving away about $75 worth of stars, and $20 worth of gems for free because it will cost you $350 without obtaining any daily star rewards. As a free to play player I scramble to pickup whatever Line Play throws at us at no cost, although it can be frustrating at times with bad luck. VIP Rank benefits also apply including Gift Shop 1+1 benefits meaning whatever you send to anyone as gift will be delivered to your mailbox as well with kind regards from Sebastian himself. For gacha/collector enthusiasts 4x recycling bonus, 12.5k inventory, 15% off animated gacha and 10% extra gems when charging are a nice combo.
Ultra Rare Exclusive Gacha Items!
If you made it to platinum rank I wish you good luck in getting your hands on the most prized possessions in Line Play. Ultra Rare fashion and interior items that sparkle and shine giving off a brilliant radiating glow, so powerful youâll entrance others around you to smile in awe as their eyes twinkle while drooling all over their devices. According to Line Play the limited VIP gacha in the VIP castle will have a new theme, and story every month which Iâll be looking forward to stare at and admire. *Note: The 10x spin is temporary as an event.
Makeup Gachas!
If it troubles you sacrificing your entire months savings just to change your eyes in the face shop, you can give the new gachas with makeup items a shot. Line Play has added a new makeup inventory to carry your extra cheeks, eyebrows, lips, eyes, noses or mouths that you can swap out on the fly! Take a chance win a pair of eyes or cheeks you always dreamed of. Hopefully theyâll introduce new makeup items that arenât all rare or super rare, and maybe even makeup only gachas for a limited time.
Pets have arrived! [Large Image]
The feature everyoneâs waiting for has finally been implemented! Pets have arrived and are slowly taking over Line Play. Currently there are only 2 types of pets available for purchase at the Pet Shop. Cuddly kittens or cheerful puppies; either one is a bundle of joy that will brighten up your day as they hop around your room anxiously waiting to be pet.
Calling, Petting and Friendship
You can call a pet to come visit by tapping the pink paw bubble. You may have to wait a few seconds for your pet(s) to appear. If it doesnât come you can re-enter your room, and they will show up eager to be pet. Tap the hand bubble to pet your pet, and gain +1 friendship shown by the gold/orange paw print. When itâs friendship level reaches 100 it will permanently move in with you, so it will always be roaming around your room, and you wonât have to call it every 3 hours. For cash pets the maximum friendship is 200, although I donât really see a reason for it (even if the gift for reaching max friendship is rarer than other pet gifts). Iâm hoping they add a much wider variety of pets like bunnies, bears, sheep, pigs or maybe even creatures like frogs!?
Taking care of your pet update [3/17]Â [Large Image]
Tap on your pet and see how it reacts! No matter which pet you decide to buy itâs up to you to keep it happy by calling and petting it everyday until itâs friendship level reaches the max (100 or 200). Also note you can only have a maximum of 2 pets out at a time. >.< Hopefully an update changes that.
Calling your pet
Youâre able to call a pet up to 10 times a day. The first time is free everyday; after that you can call it again every 3 hours for free or pay 1,000 gems to call it instantly up to 9 times. The 10 calls available reset daily along with quests.
Pet book, Gifts, and Memo
If you open the pet book you can see all of the pets you own as well as pets you havenât purchased yet at the pet shop. Tapping on the gift box in the top right will take you to the gift collection. Gifts can be obtained from reaching 100 friendship with a pet, and are limited to 1 unique gift per pet. If you would like to see more information about your pet you can tap the yellow âDetailsâ button in the pet book. On this page you can view everything about your pet like the day you first met. You can also edit your pets Memo (although I donât think anyone can see it besides you), but it may be viewed by others when your pet reaches max friendship or in a future update.
Reaching 100/200 Max Friendship with a Pet! [3/19]Â [Large Image]
After reaching 100 friendship with your pet theyâll move in with you forever! They also reward you with a gift which you can place in your room. I received a fork from Calico Cat, and a bone from Mixed Breed. Its status will change to âMy Petâ from âOut and Aboutâ and you will be able to view the gift as well. When your pet comes out to greet you, the golden my pet badge with a pink ribbon will shine above it. Also Line Play wasnât joking when they said forever. Theyâll follow you everywhere you go! Outside your room, in other strangers or friends rooms (doesnât work in room party), or even official avatars rooms! Tap your pet and see what happens. Also try eating, bathing, sitting, or napping with your pets. Youâll be in for a cute surprise! :)
Pet Quest Update [3/17]
To complete the daily pet quest you have to pet any 3 pets. You will only see pets in friends rooms if they have called them out, and you havenât completed the pet quest yet. If a pets friendship level reaches max you will see them regardless if the quest is available or not. Friends can see and pet your pets only after you have called your pet, and they have the quest available. Sadly your pets can only be pet by 1 friend or stranger until the daily quest reset. Although youâll gain +1 friendship points from whoever pets your pet!
Note: When you reach max friendship you can only pet your pet 1x per day.
Also youâll no longer receive notifications when your pet is pet.
Curious about Curious Closets?
The curious closet rewards you for obtaining hint items in specific gachas or the gift shop. Tap the bubbles to find out what items you have to acquire, and where to get them.
Curious Closets Gifts & Wish Lists
You can add hint items to your wishlist or share it in your diary, and ask friends to help you complete the curious closet. Use the Gift Shop 1+1 Benefit (VIP Gold Rank or higher) to help friends out while helping yourself too! Sebastian will gift you whatever item you send to your friends no matter the cost. After collecting a curious closet item you must wear it to complete it.
Curious Closets Gacha Hints
Hereâs a preview of what the hint item looks like for curious closet items in gachas. The hint item is highlighted in a sparkling pink circle with a ribbon as well as a curious closet banner. Youâll know when you receive a curious closet item because the curious closet banner will be appear above the gacha item.
Get Curious Closets Gifts!
After collecting both curious closet items you must wear them to complete the curious closet. If youâre not wearing an item needed for curious closet, but itâs in your inventory the item will be shown in grey with an âownedâ banner. When youâre ready to receive your gift press âget giftâ, and it will take you to the curious closet screen. Tap âget giftâ again to receive the special item waiting for you in the brightly glowing bubble. If you want you can share it in your diary to celebrate that youâve found a mystery item, and completed curious closets! To me the curious closet seems like a sneaky way to promote gachas, which isnât so bad if you have an interest in that particular gacha and/or mystery item.
Update on Curious Closets [3/17]
Curious Closet events only last a few days so be sure to double check the dates, so the rewards are still available after obtaining the hint items! Iâm not sure if Curious Closets will always follow this pattern, but typically they require a gacha item and a wishlist item. Also the latest has included a cash gacha -.- although it does reward a super rare makeup item.Â

This is what our garden looked like about a week ago. Weeds poking out between every crack imaginable in the interlocking, grass growing in the flower bedding, and a crooked pathway of uneven patio stones to our front entrance. Itâs hard to appreciate a beautiful garden with all this mess cluttering the front. Grass and weeds were consistently growing the tiniest crevices you could see, and after pulling them out over and over it always resulted in a temporary relief to a much bigger problem. Last week I decided itâs time to clean up this mess, and put an end to the weed war which has been ongoing for many years.
Left: Is a photo of the full fledged weed army compromising our gardens true beauty and holding our flowers hostage. If you looked close enough you could see the gorgeous flowers gasping for air along side the angelic figurines. All hidden behind the spiky green leafy bodies and wildly growing grass recruits.
Right: Is the aftermath of a fierce battle with them using gardening gloves made of thick leather, and a large yard waste bag to rid of their remains. All the flowers and angelic figurines were safely sitting on stairs and higher ground.
The next step was starting from scratch to rebuild what was once a thriving garden. In the beginning I leveled the battlegrounds and covered it with a weed blocker fabric to improve the gardens defense and prevent future invasions.
Another obstacle was the weak pathway which needed to be reinforced, so I brought in the limestone screenings. I spread and compacted it with a tamper to make it level then straightened out, and separated the bedding from the pathway temporarily. The newly strengthened base was required for heavy duty pavers (which were jet washed and almost as clean as if they were new!)
I knocked the paver stones in place using a hand tamper with an old t-shirt so the impact wouldnât damage them. I rented a manual tamper twice because it was cheaper, but both times I never had a chance to use it! The first time it started raining as soon as I walked out, and the other time I had to resolve other issues in the yard I didnât foresee. I eventually ended up buying one which will probably be gathering dust in the garage after this project.
Using Envirosand (polymeric sand) I filled the in joints to add structure and stability to the pavers, and swept away any excess sand in preparation for the next step.
Left: Hereâs what it looks like after the Envirosand was watered. You can use the mist setting on a hose to lightly water it to activate the sand bond. After 15 minutes you can fully saturate it and anytime the sand gets wet it will harden and create a defensive barrier against weeds!
Right: Iâm not sure if this was the best way to go about building a defensive wall for a garden, but it sounded like a good idea in my head. I didnât have a foundation for the bricks, so I created one from scratch using a mixture of limestone screenings and Envirosand. It worked out quite nicely and gave the wall a solid base to rest on top of.Â
I started constructing the wall from right to left as it was on a slope, and would be more difficult to get things to align properly. Another issue was fitting the final brick in the row towards the staircase. Luckily there was a slab of stone below the staircase protruding from the bottom, so placed a block of wood and smashed it inward with the hand tamper. It finally moved a few centimeters after splitting and nearly destroying the block of wood. It was barely enough room to fit the last brick, but I used the same method to put that brick in its place. The final brick rows went together without causing any trouble, and luckily we had purchased the exact amount needed to complete the wall (minus the gaps on each end which require 3 bricks to be cut to size with a concrete saw).
The final step was pouring fresh new soil within the garden walls and planting the delicate flowers, and placing the angelic figurines back into their home. All together about 9 bags of soil (5 top soil bags, and 4 bags of premium garden soil ontop) were used along with the soil that was previously in the garden.
Overall I think it turned out to be a great success, and I had a lot of fun working on this project. It seems like our neighbors were inspired to redesign/clean up their entire front yard as well! Unfortunately the weeds still have control over some plots of land in our yard which will have to wait until next time. Good luck to those pesky weeds trying to break in and invade our garden again!

Line Play Memories & Review
Get an adorable diary item by writing about your favorite LINE PLAY memories in your diary and sharing your entry on any social media. (Line, FB, Twitter, etc.)Â *Event ends @11:00 on June 25th (GMT+9)
Since I began my Line Play adventure last April of 2014 I've met many kind friends who frequently send hearts, post diary entries, leave stickers, comments or simply chat and have a good time! ^^ I created my avatar with little dot eyes, and a tiny sprout popping out from his head. He was so adorable that I was instantly sucked into this cute avatar world. I began taking screenshots that captured some of the fun I had with friends at the cafe or park in my journal.Â
Eventually I found out about CoTD and from then on I hopped aboard and joined a club named All Blue. We quickly climbed to the top of the leader boards with the help of their powerful rods and excellent teamwork. I enjoyed it so much I wrote a guide on everything there is to know about CoTD to help others enjoy the game to the fullest as well! We had some ups and downs together which resulted in the separation and creation of a second club ICWT (In Cod We Trust). Our newly formed club was one of the strongest ever until they announced the shocking cancellation of CoTD service!Â
Imo this was the turning point of when Line Play started to lose some interest. They introduced new mini-games like Treasure Island and Monster Rush which are mainly pay to play, as well as a new in-game currency called 'Cash.' Line Play has become another company trying their best to squeeze every penny out of players. The new mini games are simply cash grabbers along with Fruit Monsters joining them as in-game power-ups now cost cash instead of gems.
Animated gachas were introduced too which are cash-only, though you can spin a few if you don't mind a chunk taken out of your gem savings. It's disappointing that some gacha are labelled as 'animated' and yet the only item that's animated is a single aura. I think animated gachas should have a minimum of at least 3-4 animated items as well as 3-6 rare items, and fewer regular items.
If that's not enough premium gifts and new gacha wheels added in the latest updates are cash-only, and set at quite a high price. The only selection of gift items available are auras ranging from 10 cash to a whopping 500 cash. That's about $65 worth of cash which sells for roughly ~$50 worth of gems. It doesnât really make sense to buy anything more than the 10 cash premium gifts.
The only thing Iâve purchased so far is the 900% beginner bonus $2 for 10k gems offer. Other than that I probably wonât spend much or at all now with the inflated prices of cash-only items, and rising prices of animated or limited time gachas.
Currently there's a gacha for 9,900 gems a spin, and though you have a chance to get special 'rare' and 'super-rare' items only you can't justify it's price. You would think you're getting a good deal when in reality they're somewhat fancier looking shoes, suit, etc. labelled "rare." So you have a guaranteed spin to score a 'rare' item which really shouldn't be, and paying lots  for it.
If Line Play wants to make a lasting impression or keep the player base happy they need to open their eyes and ears, and listen to what their players are saying. Maybe bring back CoTD, lower the cost of gem/cash, or lower the cost of some items in general, make recycling duplicates worth while, add more categories and/or a search function to find and quickly change your avatars fashion, add the ability to save fashion styles and rooms, add a way to search/favorite gacha and view which ones are on sale, and include cash as a reward for daily attendance?
Its fun writing and designing graphics for journal entries, contests, and digging deeper into my creative side. I don't spend as much time on Line Play as I used to because of the above reasons, but I appreciate the good friends I've made, and anything that comes out of a gacha machine!

Have a fulfilling weekend and donât eat too much for Ms. Catton sake. This is my latest comic I created based on Ms. Catton who is a character from Line Play 2014 Designs.
I took these screenshots back when there was a bug which allowed me to roam freely around Line Play with a never-ending appetite! Also unable to finish the quest as thereâs no food to eat outside of your room apparently. This hungry bug inspired me to create this comic!

Line Play Update!~
Recently Line Play was updated which included an overhaul of the friend invite system, new premium gifts, and some new and redesigned UI!Â
1) New Friend Invite System!
The old system has been removed and replaced with a new system. It requires you to share your code on social media or an app store review, etc. to attract NEW players who will enter your invitation code for special bonuses. Players who use your code must be new to the game, so it will take longer and it's a little harder to get those 66k gems.Â
Easy way to get the invitation rewards using guest accounts.
1st: Login with a guest account.
2nd: Create your avatar.
3rd: Use your Invitation Code.
4th: Uninstall and Repeat!
(Make sure to delete the app after creating a guest login or else it wont log out unless you use an e-mail/password).
1a) The update also limits players to 1 of each account.
1 LINE, 1 Facebook, and 1 Twitter account.
So if youâre accumulating free gems from hearts, etc. it wonât be as easy.
2) Premium Gifts!
If you really want to treat your close friend and show them how much they mean to you, you can gift them a $65 cash item! (500 cash) Then they will probably sell it for $50~ worth of gems, and you'll be out $65 which you could have spent buying gems in the first place...Hopefully these are not fixed prices for premium gifts, but if so then be prepared to dig deep down into your wallets.
3) New and Redesigned UI!
The quest icons and menu buttons have a new smooth polished look! I haven't noticed any other significant UI changes, but a couple that stand out are the new button to view the current players in the square, as well as a small arrow button to expand the chat and make it full screen! Still awaiting more categories to sort items (maybe a search function), multiple save slots for both avatar fashions and rooms, and the return of CoTD, but these are probably ages away from being added any time soon.

Hereâs my unofficial Gold Rush guide! Hope it helps you to reach the final mystery area, complete a challenge at top tapping speed and time, or beat an area with no taps at all?
Iâm currently stuck on stage 130 which is near impossible unless you have a ton of patience to wait and accumulate enough gold to upgrade new spells and abilities that cost a fortune. Iâll probably defeat that fuzzy beast overtime after completing daily challenges and spinning some more sprites as well as upgrading them.Â
If thereâs anything missing or anything you would like to add just let me know! Until then wish you good luck on your exams (if itâs that time of the year). If not have an exciting week, and an enjoyable trigger tappy experience!
Mr. Mustasharoonâs Adventure
His story begins in a small factory at the highest point of the centre of nowhereland. One day there was an explosion at the muffin mountain factory that was inches away from a nuclear power plant. A curious employee had initiated the self destruct sequence by pressing the big red button with a 'DO NOT PRESS!!' sign above. Tiny muffin bits rained down from the skies, and born from a single crumb that landed in the radioactive waste next door was Mr. Mustasharoon! He's a little shy and awkward at times, but he enjoys blowing bubbles and eating cotton candy for a living. His name originated from the first things people noticed about him which was the giant pink macaroon glued to his noggin, and the charming mustache he grows on his nose. Some say he may be related to the muffin man, but others think he looks a lot like Mr. Cotton. No one knows the truth about Mr. Mustasharoon, but he lives out in the quiet nowhereland forest all alone with only himself and his imagination.

Hereâs my latest creation of Mr. Cottonâs avatar styles on Line Play in 2014! I finished this near the very end of January, but I never got around to posting it as I got caught up in my part-time job, and slightly lost interest in Line Play. It was a very long process from start to finish. I think it took about 2-3 weeks or so, working on it whenever I had time.
The process of how this image came to life [10 Steps]
Step 1: I started by re-creating every style saved in my diary, journal, and screenshots
Step 2:Â After re-creating each style I saved it as a sticker to be imported into Line Camera aka aillis (art is long life is short).
Step 3:Â Next I opened aillis and placed the stickers on a new canvas one by one zooming in to maximize itâs size then capturing a screenshot (set to automatically upload to Dropbox).
Step 4:Â When I had collected screenshots of all my avatarâs styles, I began cutting each one out with the magic wand and placed them into a giant canvas in Photoshop. It was a very long process, but the result was a nice layout of cute characters on a big white canvas.
Step 5:Â I had my idea somewhat thought out before, and organized them in their own follow-the-leader type lines that each had their own theme. The first line being the beginning of my Line Play adventures with sprout boy, followed by spring love, then fluffy animals and so on.
Step 6: Approaching the end of the line it looked like something was missing, but I knew just what it needed. The next challenge was coming up with names to go along with all of my avatarâs styles, though I had quite a few in mind while I was lining them up on the canvas.
Step 7: Seeing the small gaps between avatars was another problem which got me thinking; What could I do to make a connection to every style as a whole? Then it hit me as I was doodling a colorful disco ball world in the corner. I can connect the avatars using a line! The world (or wool ball) would represent âLine Play worldâ and outstretched from it a path (made of yarn?) from the never-ending to the very beginning where it all started.Â
Step 8: Creating the path was a big task on its own. It probably took the same amount of time up to this point to draw the smooth swirly lines like a vine that connected everything. Using a preset brush would have been much easier, but I tried one out in the end. It looked a lot less dynamic and didnât have the curlyness I was looking for. Doing it by hand was a fun experience and gave the line some character with a nice fluid spiraling flow from top to bottom.
Step 9: Things were looking better after making tiny adjustments almost everywhere to get avatars to fit and line up with their names and swirls, but there were many blank spaces which made the canvas look bare. I wasnât sure what else could squeeze into this picture, but I remembered my journal filled with great memories and adventures that had to be included somewhere. I added bits and pieces of my journal from when I began playing Line Play up until the most recent entries and events going on in Line Play.
Step 10: Finally I edited in some effects, text, and details to give it a finished quality. The original PSD file is surprisingly 524 MB and is 4.7105m width by 6.8668m height (yes thatâs meters..) or 13327 x 19465 pixels. I had no idea it was going to be this size, so I scaled it down to about a 3rd of the original. The low and medium definition images are scaled down to 1.56m width by 2.2782m height (which is still pretty huge). Enough for a full size poster to cover a wall in cuteness. ^^
I was a little afraid my computer wouldnât be able to handle the large quantity of pictures or size the final image would be, but it survived and thatâs the whole process of how I put this image together.
[LEFT - OLD Diary Entry]
Making a diary entry is as simple as uploading an image, writing a short blurb, and entering a title. Line Play will take your high quality original image and process it thoroughly so it will fit in your diary. Crumpled into a ball, then steam rolled, and lastly shredded to pieces after filtering out all the quality your new image looks stunningly pixelated. Seriously at least 90%+ of the quality is lost when you upload an image and text is barely decipherable. The text box also has a limitation on how many characters you can enter. Itâs troublesome if you enjoy writing and you have to cut some stories short, edit 'and' into '&'s or rephrase what you originally wanted to say. It was also strange that you had to add a sticker before anything else otherwise you would have to edit your entry later and sticker it. Having a poor network only makes things worse after hitting done and receiving a network error bringing you back to square one. Either going back or leaving you with an empty page...(which is why itâs always best to copy any posts text to the clipboard!)
[RIGHT - NEW Diary Entry]
I'm loving the new entry page besides the fact you can no longer add a title or set a sticker for your entry. You could always add a title manually with [square brackets], but it's not the same especially when its not in bold at the top of your entry. Besides that you can now add photos from LINE Camera, create a new Avatar Pic (without entering the closet) or Share your current post! These are awesome new features that will come in handy cooking up inspiring and creative entries!Â
[NEW - Avatar Pic]
You're now able to save a picture of your avatar after a fast face job, while you shop for the latest cottons or during your time in the classic closet. Either way you now have the option of choosing your background varying from bright colors, weird patterns and pleasant scenery to several different action poses for your avatar! This is another great feature to put a twist on the typical closet selfies.
I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not, but since the latest update 2.7.0.0+ I haven't found a way to add a title, sticker your entry or take a closet selfie. If anyone discovers a way to do any of these things I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how. ^^ (I know some players haven't updated to 2.7.0.0+ yet which is why they still have the features above.)
What do you think of the new Diary Entries?
Do you prefer the new Avatar Pic? or the old 'Closet Selfie'?
[LEFT - OLD My Room]
This is my old helpers room that has healthy bright green grass surrounding it. There's also tiny white daisies if you look very closely.
[MIDDLE - NEW My Room]
With the new update it seems our rooms have move to a different location. A quiet and empty dimension filled with gray matter. It makes it a easier to crop out your room since there is no grass around the bottom edges, but it makes me wonder what Line Play was trying to achieve. The only purpose it seems is to make your room stand out a little more. Did a herd of animals eat our grass? Did they hire Clare to mow our perfectly green grass lawns? Well one thing is for sure..the grass is definitely not greener on this other side.
[RIGHT - NEW My Room?]
This is a background I added to my room after cropping it out. In the future I hope they add a feature to set the My Room background color or even a theme similar to how our diaries work.
[TOP - OLD Room Menu UI]
The original menu was nice and simple with big icons and text to quickly change, decorate your room, browse the shop or warp to a random room.
[BOTTOM - OLD Room Menu UI]
After the update the UI became even more simplified with smaller text icons, and the shop popup built in for easy access to all your spending needs. One thing that bothers me though is the constant need to press the 3-dash menu button to open this menu. When you're doing the daily clean/watering quests it can be a hassle to constantly have to re-open the menu. Previously it was displayed on-screen until you closed it with the small 'x' button probably because there was enough space. Now that the shop has been integrated into the new menu and instantly displayed it takes up a lot more room on-screen which is why it's probably defaulted to be hidden after use.
What do you think of the new My Room background?
Is the new My Room Menu UI better than the old one?
[LEFT - Good OL' Home Screen]
Welcome home! To the far left is the home screen that I originally began my Line Play adventures with. A small and humble home with a classic red mailbox, fence, bench, magical golden gem, and mysterious rainbow portal. The only screenshot I had of the old home screen was actually when I was making my Black Box comic. You could walk around inside the fenced area like an animal, sit on the bench or peek through the tiny window to have a look at what's going on inside your home while you're going out.Â
[MIDDLE - OLD Home Screen]
There was a pretty big update around fall that changed the home screen again, and brought back the beloved gem button! How I missed knowing the little gems I had for a couple days. The only way to find out was to go into settings or spin a gacha. Anyway with the new update everything either shrunk or we all had a massive growth spurt. Our humble homes were now the same size as our avatar along with all the conveniently constructed buildings. Many of the buttons on the old home screen including some popular ones from 'More' were now easily accessible on the home screen. Though the events, games, gacha and shop we're quite a long distance up the winding green grassy path. You actually had to scroll/flick to move to that part of the home screen. Also in this update they secretly nailed your avatar down to the home screen. Either that or that grey shadow under your avatar is really a puddle of super glue because you could no longer walk around and explore!Â
[RIGHT - NEW Home Screen]
Finally we have the latest update on Line Play which brings a shiny new upscale model of the previous home screen. The first thing I noticed was Cherry who plopped right beside me shouting all these 'useful' Tips at me. Most of which I already knew being an active player since April. It's nice to have her company and helpful bubble tips on the home screen as a beginner or new player, but for experienced players its more of an annoyance. Hopefully she'll get tired of repeating tips and plop herself back in her room someday. It seems like the old design was a winner, so they've brought back the 3-quarter view, steamrolled a few buildings and revived those glossy buttons with a more simplistic design. LINE's construction crew also came in and gave the old grassy path an overhaul. It's now a gray brick road along with fancier newly renovated buildings. The right side of the home screen looks a bit lonely which gives me reason to believe they may create other buildings in future updates and possibly have a grand opening for Line Play's Home Town! :P
Which Home Screen is your favorite so far?
What do you think of the current Home Screen?
Line Play has recently updated the UI and design of quite a few game elements since update 2.7.0.0. What has been changed?
The LEFT side is the OLD UI/Design.
The RIGHT side is the NEW-ly updated UI/Design.
1. Old vs New [Diary Pages]
OLDÂ - The old diary felt as if it was a scrapbook or album holding memories, drawings, stories, closet selfies, scrumptious food, and much more! The diary themes added character and a unique style that made everything enjoyable to look at or read.
NEW - There is no longer a guestbook bar showing you the last 5 avatars who commented in cute little boxes. Also it doesn't display how many guestbook messages you have either. Instead you have 3 new icons. Diary (Red), Diary Archive (Green) and Guestbook (Blue). The diary themes have been simplified to basic color schemes which is pretty disappointing. It really only affects the introduction area at the top of your diary which has been redesigned with larger text and a small cropped circular portrait of your avatar. The rest of the diary as you scroll down is a boring white which blends all diary entries together and makes it difficult to read/differentiate between entries imo.
2. Old vs New [Diary Entries]
OLDÂ - Diary entries are what made Line Play unique in sharing your experiences, fashion, etc. in-game and in real life. Each entry had a bold title that stood out above the content. Below was your picture framed in a thin white border and slight shadow to give it some depth. Everything flowed together so well including the diary theme embedded into the comments.
NEW - Diary entries look plain as the theme doesnât even affect anything beyond the introduction area. Titles are now very low-profile only having square brackets to differentiate between the regular text in your entry. Picture previews are larger and fixed to the width of the screen which is nice, but they lose their classic photographic feel without any frame. After posting the entry in your diary are now able to share it via LINE, Facebook, Twitter, or More which includes Tumblr, Google+ and other social media networks/applications. You can also copy the full text in each post using the '...' menu which would have both been nice features to have earlier. The new diary feels as if itâs Tumblr all over again with it's 'Likes' (previously Stickers) and simplistic design similar to Tumblrs mobile themes.
2.5. New [Diary Archive]
This is a brand new feature in your diary that I call the 'Diary Archive' as it takes all your entries in your diary and throws them together in a cool 3 column collage. It's very similar to Tumblrs archive except that the diary entries aren't separated by month. I think this is a feature that has been long overdue because of the fact that there was no other way to navigate through someones diary! To find a specific entry in the hundreds or even thousands of diary entries of an avatars diary you had to be very very very patient. Scrolling down and loading each and every entry took ages depending on your internet connection and flicking skill. Usually if you got a rhythm going with fast and long flicks you could reach the bottom after a few minutes of frustration. Now with the compressed diary archive you can quickly find the post you're looking for compiled in a neat 3 row by 3 column collection of small preview thumbnails. *Note: Text entries are not included in the 'Diary Archive.'
3. Old vs New [~Guestbook Entries!~]
OLD - Again the old theme design makes the guestbook look a lot more pleasing to the eye. Messages are contained in white bubbly boxes which compliment the cloudy sky background. There is also a 'Write Back' button to instantly reply to anyone who leaves a note on your guestbook. Some people use guestbooks to chat too! I'm not sure if you were able to delete messages, but I think if you held down your finger over any message an option to copy or delete text would appear?
NEW - New diary page meet new guestbook. Same plain white background only the guestbook doesn't have the 'bright and colorful' introduction. It's white, its separated by gray lines rather than bubbly boxes, it's the new guestbook page! Now boasting a '...' button to write back with a little extra inconvenience! Though I guess not too many people will be messaging back and forth with the guestbook.
What do you think of the Old Diary vs the New Diary?
Which diary design do you prefer?
Hey, just saw your blog and CotD comments and I wanted to get a few things straight. I don't know if you've realized this yet, but the reason there were still many updates to the game was because the global service was being shut down, but Japan servers are still up and running and still coming out with new maps and items. And what do you mean by 'wasn't doing well due to... treat platter farmers'? I personally had salvaged thousands of platters but I don't see how that is considered bad
Okay, but I canât understand why would they go through the trouble of translating and updating content from Japanâs servers to the Global servers if the games service is ending so suddenly? Itâs like âOh look thereâs new flying fish, powerful rods, etcâŚwait the servers already shut down? I never got to explore any of the ânewâ content.â Usually updates and content attract new players, bring back old players interest or enhance the current players experience who are already hooked to the game. Releasing brand new content when the game will no longer be available sounds a bit silly to me. I meant that Naver (LINE) was probably not earning enough to cover the cost of their (small?) team of coders to fix all the bugs and regularly update CoTD. Their coding team also seemed to make a lot of mistakes with new updates causing loads of bugs that left players with the familiar âlagâ experienced frequently while playing CoTD. Iâm sure I wasnât the only one frustrated when my taps didnât register, being unable to see chat or having errors with the server stability/connection, etc. that kicked you out of the game. Those disconnections and bugs were especially annoying in the middle of an arena big game fight which imo was what CoTD was all about. By treat platter farmers I was referring to the players re-creating avatars to abuse the Line Invite (1k gem) rewards, and buy an infinite supply of treat platters or premium big-game bait. There were so many free alternatives from spinning gacha with fishing medals, buying bait with invite gems or salvaging ultimate rods, generous weekly arena awards, etc. that there was no point to spend a dime on CoTD. Most times the servers had less than 10 players online besides the spike of activity during weekly scheduled ABG sessions for clubs. Free2Play and frustrated players = No support = Adieu CoTD. :â(
#ROOM Christmas Story [Original Image]
Happy holidays and welcome to Mr. Cottonâs Christmas #ROOM on Line Play!
Tâwas the night before Christmas and all the avatars of Line Play were fast asleep snuggled up in their beds. They had smiles on their faces as they imagined the wonderful and mysterious presents that lay under the Christmas tree. Brown, Cony, Sally and their friends prepared a huge feast of delicious sweets and treats to celebrate this time of love and joy. Everyone worked together to help decorate the room and fill it with Christmas spirit! The faeries carefully mixed icing, flour and everything sweet to create the perfect cupcakes, cookies, and many other goodies for the guests.Â
A team of hamsters managed the fruity licorice pipes of the chocolaty fondue fountain below, which happened to spring a leak during lunch break. There was no need to worry though because the head hamster was on the job fixing the choco-leak as we speak. Lively monkeys swung around the room with their wild tails hanging ornaments on the tree, decorations and flags on the walls. After placing the shiny golden star to rest atop of the Christmas tree they had a few drinks and relaxed in the steamy hot bath. Moments later Santa rolled in with his giant green sac of gifts. Omnomnom~ Santa munched on the chocolate chip cookies with a cup of hot chocolate to wash it all down. He was ready to take flight and called upon his reindeer to make sure they were present, and prepared to carry his sleigh way up high into night sky. "Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer, and Vixen! On, Comet!âŚâ wait where were the other 3 reindeer? Luckily Mr. Cotton had 3 of the fluffiest lambs in his backyard which he took very good care of. Santa opened his tiny sac of magical snow dust and sprinkled it over the lambs. âBaaa-choo!~â They sneezed and slowly began to float upwards away from the ground. It was time for Santa to begin his trip around the globe to deliver presents to each and every Line Play avatar. âHo-ho-hoâŚHold on!âŚwho made this big mess?â Santa exclaimed. There were foot prints all around the room, but no sign of the creature! Hopefully some kind guests will stop by and lend Mr. Cotton a hand to keep his home neat and tidy after the Christmas party. Merry Christmas!
Christmas Cheer [Original Image]
Christmas is nearly here and Line Play gave us all a special weekend surprise with the limited edition Makeup Gacha available for 1 day only! I was so excited with this gachas release because I had a chance to get both a blush for cheeks and a sweet treat to eat. Gachas rarely have cheek or mouth items, but this was a once in a very long time opportunity.
Mr. Cottonâs eyes twinkled at the sight of that delicious freshly baked chocolate chip cookie in the gacha machine. A few moments later he was 33 spins in and about to give up when the 34th spin came around. Very round..It was a cookie! It was disappointing at how long it had taken, but at the same time he was relieved he actually got it and completed the entire Makeup gacha! This was his first complete Gacha Collection. ^^Â
After spending all those gems he felt the Xmas Wonderland gacha calling. He stared at the gacha page having an all out war with my conscience..
Bad Cotton ~ Spin it! You know you want that adorable snowy xmas reindeer to keep you company on your head no matter what it costs!
Good Cotton ~ 4,000 is a lot of gems. You need to save money for clearance gachas!
He gazed into the reindeerâs tiny eyes and felt like it was staring into his soul. He noticed many other items he would be happy with getting, so he closed his eyes and spun it once. He got a Santa outfit which was one item he was hoping for, so he decided to give it another go because you canât have a santa outfit without a hat. Out rolled a yule log...It wasnât something he was aiming for, but still a delicious dessert for any guests. He wasnât ready to call it quits yet, so he spun it a 3rd time and to my surprise out came Santaâs hat! He couldnât believe my luck at how quickly he managed to get the items he hoped for, so he decided to try 1 last time. A surge of excitement shot through him as the cute reindeer sparkled before him! This was his first animated super-rare item, and one heâs so happy to have received. Mr. Cotton thought to himself âI think iâll keep cuddly reindeer on top of my head forever!â
