Wolf is a spirit animal captive wireless network for the wilderness. The network is served by a wifi-enabled microcontroller powered by a solar panel and a backup battery housed in a mason jar.
Programmable Tea Light (2015)
The programmable tea light is a workshop project I designed for the IDEATE 2015 conference at Catherine Cook School here in Chicago. The conference is designed to introduce middle-school teachers to using technology in the classroom. My workshop was focused on digital fabrication. Participants assembled a tea light from laser-cut parts and programmed the RGB LED using an Arduino-compatible microcontroller.
DIY MiniFM Transmitter (2015)
I slightly modified Tetsuo Kogawa’s miniFM transmitter to include a power switch and a LED indicator. I designed and fabricated an enclosure for the device and taught a workshop at the MEGAPOLIS 2015 festival in San Francisco.
WiBlox (2015)
WiBlox are the result of the do.Until() design team consisting of myself, Robb Drinkwater, Doug Pancoast and Brad Johns with funding from the UChicago Center for Innovation Exchange. Each WiBlox is a wireless, wifi-connected device that houses a number of sensors that can be programmed for a variety of behaviors. WiBlox are a permanent installation at the UofC CIE.
WiBlock (2015)
WiBlock is a design prototype for a radio frequency pixel. The device is sensitive to RF energy and changes color based on field strength. This design was chosen by the Chicago Innovation Exchange to be funded and further developed as an educational platform.

ISM is a sound and radio installation that exposes a vast expanse of radio space punctuated by machine communications. The installation consists of an antenna mast supporting three antennas, each of which is appropriate for reception in the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) radio bands. Each antenna is connected to a computer-controlled radio receiver, each of which is tuned to a particular frequency in those bands (920MHz, 434MHz and 315MHz). These frequencies are used by such devices as keyless car entry systems, wireless sensor networks and utility meter transmitters to name a few. A set of speakers diffuse the sound of the demodulated signals into the audio space around the installation, creating a sound composition wholly determined by the stochastic arrangement of devices operating within receiving range.
