where are my feet? am I sitting or standing? wiggle my toes, wiggle my fingers

look at your hands

can you feel them?

Imagine you are surrounded by those who love you, a soft circle surrounds you

they are all looking at you with deep love in their eyes

focus on their faces gaze back into their eyes breathe

you are on your feet the ground is solid touch an object feel it’s texture breathe

Conversation 2: Kelli Pennington & Briana Cerezo

The photo collective I'm a part of, small talk, is creating a series of photographic conversations. Here's my response (on the right) to Kelli Pennington's conversation starter (on the left).

I drove to Moulton Falls alone. The water levels at the falls were unusually high.

I met Deb (David e.b.) along the trail with his grandson Jim, and Jim's two friends from a fraternity at University of Washington. Deb owns a vineyard in the Yacolt area, and has lived there for over 40 years. They led me to the falls when I was a bit turned around. We traipsed through the water soaked trails and tried to keep our socks dry. Jim told me about studying for a business degree in the hopes of inheriting his dad's security company, and shared that he's also a portrait photographer as a hobby.

We parted ways on the way back as I stopped to make photographs.

I had almost forgotten how much I enjoy stepping into new places for a look.

i choose to reside on the edges where vulnerability becomes strength

Did you forget that you are creative?

You unto yourself

your own

You once did these things alone

and were powerful then as you are now

boldly naked and honest

beautifully raw

with tenacity among struggle

strength made from shining light on demons

there were shimmers

         black sickness

watching shadow creatures scurry away

while others came into full bloom

Is a season even recognizable except by the passage of time?

I am ready for spring.

Once we came upon each other in the dark I could only see your eyes and a dream of things longed for

invisible objects that saturated my hungry skin in love a foreign taste it made my mouth quiet

truth could not be held

past a certain measure

my cup could only spill

so I hid them in my pockets hidden from blindsight and rotting i don't know what is behind these smiles

thank you, i said

and they kept coming

Once I came upon myself in the light curiously grotesque and shiny a way only lies can reflect

eyelids closed forced myself to sink in a body self-abused

a body self-abused

can't be washed with water

only swallowed in long licks find the strength to eat it all

decaying love self-consumed for tired seasons I was not beautiful

underneath layered sicknesses I came upon my eyes focused for farsight

don't stand so close to my wounds, i said

I can see now like a memory the shape of you

A meditation on forgiveness:

Forgiveness is the end of duality. It is the end of judgment, of polarity, of binary, of otherness.

Forgiveness is reconciliation within the self. It is the reset button that will release all the past; all that has been dwelling within me that has been draining my energy and keeping me from arriving in the sensual presence of now.

Forgiveness is not a one-time occurrence. It is a continuous state of being that will unlock my ability to move forward from the heart with acceptance, integration and wholeness.

I release the blocks of resentment, betrayal, hurt, disappointment, lack and woundedness. I take personal responsibility for expanding beyond limiting beliefs and a victim mindset.

I welcome all lost parts of myself and integrate them immediately and gently into my being.

I embody presence, love, and acceptance and move forward in joyful sovereignty.

She stood before me

humble in her power

and wordless

I don't know what happened first

my subtle trembling

or the rounded bead that dripped

the mirrored world from her

upon my bare skin

I lay beneath

Presence contested

by anticipation

My eyes bathed in color

as she removed each piece

Beauty laid on the earth

I gazed at her naked limbs

and shared the privileged view

with the waning sun

anticipation can tempt

a false belief that another moment could be more delicious than this

as cool breath slides down a hurricane of earth air mixing with your blood and gently warmed before gifting it back

or rather it is a true belief if you do not sink low into it with all the weight of your senses

you will miss the magic while thinking joy happens
