Harper walked through the Winter Market as she tried to find gifts for everyone on her list. She felt there was a lot of people she had to shop for this year, and Harper was thankful for the fact that she was growing a little community for herself in Bridgeport. The small town felt like home to her and she imagined staying here for a long time. She found herself looking at a stall that had a variety of warm socks and bumped into someone’s hand as they reached for the same pair. “You know, you really can’t go wrong with a pair of good socks.”

Anni was browsing the make-up area of the local convenience store, something she didn’t do often as she was good at keeping things on backstock at home. But, with a four year old at home, things didn’t always go as planned as Hallie was a curious child and the curiosity had resulted of her playing in her mother’s make up, ruining the tube of lipstick Anni had just opened. While it had been frustrating, she was thankful that there were places like this in town that she could buy things from when she was desperate. What she hadn’t been expecting was the deal on the lipsticks, so while she had the color she needed to replace in her hand already, she couldn’t help but to take part of the deal and stock up on other colors and branch out a little. Bringing the tester swab up to her lips, she looked in the mirror for a second, making a face of uncertainty. She didn’t quite know if this color was the one she needed to select, and she turned around, offering the person next to her a small smile. “Excuse me?” she asked, looking back in the mirror for a moment. “Do you think this color suits me alright?”

“You know, I was always more of a classic holiday outfit kind of person. You know, sparkles, sequins, anything sparkly as New York hosts a ton of parties that require you to dress up. I’ve always preferred fancy dresses, but this year I thought I might go for a nice sweater. Something holiday feels that I can wear all winter long, but this is the first thing I picked up.” she laughed. “And I think the saddest part of it all is that I don’t even hate it.” she added. “Good thing it’s pretty festive. What do you think. Are you a tacky Christmas sweater person?”

“The thing I always seem to forget about the snow is how cold it gets when it somehow makes its way down your boot.” Harmony replied with a small chuckle as she could feel that her sock was growing a little wet from some rogue snow that had gotten in there. No matter what sort of boots that the woman wore it always seemed to happen eventually. The only way she’d prevented it as a kid was by wearing snowpants, and she couldn’t exactly run around with those as an adult.   “The only thing that might be worse is when you wear the wrong socks and they slip their way off your foot and inside your boot.”

Shelby was picking up a few items for the Friendsgiving for her and her roommates at the Banana house. Considering they were all on a budget, they would be having picante chicken flavored Ramen in place of Turkey as the main course with instant mashed potatoes and can of Cranberry sauce for the sides. After securing some wine she found herself eyeing a container of Whoopie pies in the bakery asle.“Do you think you could pass me one of those?” She asked the fellow shopper, not wanting to reach in front of them.

“I am thinking of putting on a promotion. Where any consultation with my business comes with a free coupon of some sort. Which got me thinking, it might be interesting to see how many local businesses could get on board with the idea of having some sort of local currency.” Luca replied as he’s heard that sort of thing had worked out in other places. “Sort of like Bridgeport Dollars. You spend them in town at locally owned businesses, and then the businesses can exchange them for cash at town hall. It seems like a good way to keep the economy flowing.”

“You know, I love Halloween, but I love the day after Halloween better” he said holding up a bag of candy. “All the half of candy you could possibly want.” He said laughing as he put two bags in his cart, rummaging through the bin of candy to see if there was anything else. “I also buy all my Halloween decorations now, so I don’t have to do it next year and pay hundred dollars for something I can get for fifty” he said spotting the half of decorations and costumes in the corner. “Also the coffee places all come out with their holiday drinks, and I feel as though we’ve hit the jackpot.” He said laughing.

The autumnal breeze was a welcome rush of cold morning air, waking up the very nerve endings on Eleanora's goose-bumped skin. She warmed herself with a sip of her cappuccino and momentarily lifted her gaze from her book while a particularly strong gust of wind rustled the pages, losing her place. "Hell," Eleanora muttered, setting her mug down and leafing through the pages, scanning for familiarity. She looked up again, a new voice more of an unwelcome surprise than the morning's gusty winds. "Just some research for work," She says politely, though she's not sure she's heard them correctly above the bustle of the cafe.

“Now see this, is more my speed.” She held up her beer to cheers before taking a generous gulp. “Unpopular opinion, thanksgiving is the best holiday because it’s about food. Family too, but mostly food. No one has to dress up, put out loads or decor or worry about gifts. She was never want to really celebrate holidays anyway, never having a reason to until now. Her daugher being back in her life meant she had reason to get a bit more excited.. “ I went to the halloween dance but left early. It’s all too loud and showy for me. The only thing I like about Halloween is the candy. What about you?”

With the black apron supporting the Lighthouse Cafe’s logo over his usual attire of faded straight legged jeans and black t-shirt, Jamey tossed a white towel over his shoulder while giving the person in line a grin that screamed goofy and charming in one. “Hello, hello. Have you come in search of pumpkin spice like everyone else?” He asked in a teasing tone. “Or maybe you’re gonna be my odd duck today. Gonna ask for something crazy. I’ll have you know I can make a delicious dark chocolate iced shaken espresso. May not be on the menu yet… But I’m convincing my boss.” Jamey over explained and flashed that grin once more. “So, what will it be?”

“Have you ever seen the movie they’re playing at Als’s tonight?” Nia could remember vividly the time she would spend with her family growing up, doing things exactly like this. Nia had always preferred Winter herself, but her parents were Autum lovers - complete with family Halloween costumes and scary films - until Nia was old enough to decide she didn’t love it anymore and Trick - or - Treating stopped for her completely. With that in mind, though, Nia had seen nearly every Halloween film that existed, and while it had been years since she’d seen any, she was excited to experience this in a new town. 

A few caramel apples, some popcorn, hot chocolate, fresh apple cider and a water bottle later and Nia was set. “Please, feel free to share some of these snacks with me if you wish; I may have overstocked in preparation to be glued to my seat the entire time.” she laughed, though, she was now very painfully figuring out how she was going to eat all of these snacks if the other didn’t offer to take some off her hands.

My four year old doesn’t have manners sometimes.” Anni apologized as she watched her daughter push through people to break the line for animal treats, desperate to feed a goat as if she hadn’t already fed one twice. “Hallie, come here please.” Anni called, moving and taking her daughter’s hand, escorting her to the back of the line. “We’re working on patience, I promise she gets told no, and even though we’ve done this four times now, she keeps coming back.” Anni laughed. “Maybe I can convince her to get food after this. What do you suggest that children enjoy?”

She’d made a promise. One she intended to keep, though considering how insanely busy she’d been, it had been put on hold until this last week of the month to be able to fulfill. All her daughter wanted was a little visit to the pumpkin patch again, nevermind that the child had already been with a myriad of other people including her brother, grandparents, friends, and more— still, Mila had promised to take her, and Mila never broke a promise to her daughter. 

Waiting on the outskirts of the pumpkin patch with a coffee in hand, the mother watched her daughter pick out yet another pumpkin to take home to carve (or talk someone else into carving). “ONLY ONE, FREYA!” she called out. The front step of her liberty hills property is already covered in a variety of gourds. “she’ll buy out the entire farm at this rate.”

      benjamin shouldn’t be attending the event he already had his hands full with penny ( more like penny had her hands full with him ), but he was a sucker for animals and maybe just maybe it wouldn’t hurt to add to his little family of two. eyes falling on a rather small kitten he instantly feels himself turning to mush as he coo’s at the feline. “ Listen I know realistically getting another pet isn’t in the cards, but do you think that maybe I could get away with a kitten ? It’s not like a dog so Penny shouldn’t mind. “ he asks swiftly turning to his friend the little kitten already curled up in his arms.

It was nice to live in a town with traditions. It felt safe to look forward to things. And every October, Fiona looked forward to watching scary movies with a big bucket of popcorn. So when the teen at the snack stand informed her the popcorn machine was broken, Fiona felt the familiar pang of disappointment. "Broken?" She repeated, her brow wrinkled with frustration. Quickly, the teen offered to upgrade her slushie drink to a bigger size. "Thanks," Fiona said softly, walking away with her Cherry Blast slushie and longingly staring at the bucket of popcorn she passed by. As she sipped her slushie too fast, a sharp pain splintered her head, stopping her dead in her tracks. "Holy shit balls," She exclaimed loudly, rubbing her forehead before smiling weakly at the person staring at her.

she wasn’t sure what about it she enjoyed , but gigi always favored being behind than bar whenever she could. it was another friday at old port tavern and the crowd had just started rolling in. gigi threw a towel over her shoulder as she set up a few things behind the bar. besides it was her favorite season. there was something about halloween decorations that made her mood slightly less sour. ‘ what’re we drinking ? ’, she set down a coaster in front of the person at the bar before grabbing a glass and filling it up with her own beer. @bridgeporthqstarters​
