Jean had big plans to get a record deal like Greg straight out of high school. His audition went disastrously. But here’s 30 minutes before humiliation.

Blue Pearl has always been very much like a sister to Jean. When he needed it the most, she let him stay with her even after she found her own life on Earth. While she preferred he actually try to find a job, she was patient with him until he was ready to get up and try again.

Jean Universe, my Blue Diamond Steven, even though he’s not named Steven- Son of Greg Universe and Blue Diamond, Jean grew up a relatively gem-free life outside of the presence of Blue Pearl in his life, and he looked up to Greg with his successful career as a musician. Hoping to become one himself, he had planned to get a record deal right out of high school, but ultimately failed to impress anyone. Discouraged and unsure where to go from there, Jean crashed at Blue Pearl’s apartment in Beach City, where he put off finding work for some time. It was nothing but lazing around in depression, junk food, and his favorite until a certain group of Crystal Gems discovered a human hybrid thanks to his powerful aura.

With his diamond heritage, the Crystal Gems convinced him to begrudgingly assist as a diplomat in Homeworld in order to stop the Cluster from emerging on Earth and heal the corrupted gems. Jean, just wanting to wallow in his comfort zone, is miserable around gems and eager to return home - until he discovers he’s not the only diamond hybrid in the universe.
