Before he could stop himself, Megatron had pulled Starscream into a tight hug.

"I only wish I could have given you a better answer."

Starscream let out a startled yelp but after realizing that Megatron was hugging him, he shuddered and instantly returned it.

"Your answer is fine," he commented quietly. He nuzzled his helm against his shoulder, dimming his optics. “Take your time. Heal. Another time, maybe."

It was a long moment before he could bring himself to let go of Starscream.

Soundwave figured. He vaguely remembers something involving Starscream, their Starscream, but can’t place it properly.

«A clone though? Of Starscream? When did he have the time to make sure, and without alerting us of his plans?»

«I don't know. For all I know, the clone might be of Autobot manufacture.»

Megatron is going to regret this.

On the other hand, Soundwave has been buried alive for months. He’s earned the right to be a nuisance for a while.

He sends Soundwave the intercom codes.

With those codes he could control the sound system of the entire ship, which never worked out all that well on the Nemesis or in the fortress, he isn’t sure why Megatron even agreed.

He wonders what else he can get out of Megatron.

Megatron didn’t know when he’d switched from “lol alternate timelines" to actually giving Starscream the benefit of the doubt; but for now, he was taking his story seriously.

"I need to find a proper doctor," Megatron said. “For both of us. I give you my word—once I find someone, I’ll come back and get repaired myself as well."

«Fine.»

The officer turned his helm and pouted again, arms crossed over his chest stubbornly. However, it didn’t last long and he glanced over.

«If you’re not back in an hour, I’ll come looking for you.»

"No, you won't." He turned to the Vehicons in the room. "Make sure he doesn't." They saluted.

And he went off to find a proper doctor.

Megatron sighed. Yeah, yeah, he knew he needed repairs. “And you. You need them more than I do." He helped Soundwave up onto the berth that Laserbeak had just vacated—no, no choice in this, Soundwave is going on the berth—and looked around for a doctor.

No doctor. Well, great. He waved the medic Vehicon over. It was a start.

"I’m going to go look for Knock Out. Or someone." There were two (??) Knock Outs and some sort of neutral doctor running about this ship and Megatron had no idea where any of them were.

Yellow optics narrowed.

«Megatron.»

He reached out before Megatron could get away, and even went as far as attempting to pull him over. His pouting returned when he couldn’t exactly move the other gladiator but wasn’t nearly as serious as he wished it appeared.

«Stay. Your repairs are important as well. The assistant can handle mine, and I will assist with yours.»

Soundwave repaired his own frame, knew enough about their forms than he cared to admit. The dents would work themselves out, his repair systems would make sure of that, but the leg would need a medic.

Just like Megatron’s apparent injuries. Ones that Soundwave wouldn’t trust with just anyone.

Megatron didn’t even try to hold Soundwave back as he went for his deployer. No point. He’d probably fight his way free anyway.

"Knock Out says she’s taken some damage to her memory banks," Megatron said. “He salvaged as much as he could, but he thinks she’s still missing quite a few files. If you have duplicates of them, you can download them back into her; but otherwise, she may have some holes in her memory."

Soundwave flinched. That meant that she had come back for him, after he’d given her orders to leave. A part of him was angry that she didn’t listen but another honored that she cared enough to return.

«Easy fix.»

He opened a panel and overrode her coding so that she folded neatly. Closing the panel back up, he unhooked the various devices attached to her, then placed her where she belonged.

«Downloading her backup files.»

His optics flashed white then settled back to yellow. He struggled momentarily to stand again and turned his helm, sending his commander a smile.

«…. get repairs.»

Megatron bumped his helm right back. “I’m fine. It looks worse than it is." It hurt like the pit. “Just a faulty connection in a socket joint."

His helm jerked back as if the silence mech had snorted.

«Riiight.»

Then just as he was getting comfortable and cozy next to Megatron as they moved, they were closer to the medbay and Soundwave was picking up on something.

«…..»

He tried to pick up the pace, blindly since he didn’t know where he was going.

He could feel her. She was here.

«Laserbeak?» He hadn’t meant for it to be on a more public wave, which radiated to not only his deployer but those nearby. The normal drone of his more telepathic voice seemed a bit chipper at the thought. 

She’d actually made it.

And when they arrived at the medbay, everything was ignored in favor of his deployer the moment he saw her.

He abandoned his crutches and limped in pure agony over to the berth, hitting his knees and leaning against the side of the berth. Had he had his voice, this was where he would be cooing and whispering to the flier.

But he could do little more than engulf the stasis locked deployer in his field, petting her with one servo.

Megatron didn't even try to hold Soundwave back as he went for his deployer. No point. He'd probably fight his way free anyway.

I, for one, like the idea of interpreting SG characters as the same as their vanilla counterparts in personality, but reverse in ideology. Megatron, therefore, would be truly dedicated to equality and recognizing the value of every life and would respect Starscream and protect humans and all that stuff—but he’d still be a violence-happy trigger-temper mean-ass mofo whose solution to most problems is punching them until they die or shouting at them if he’s not allowed to punch them.

I felt like illustrating that with a really super-simple hue shift of the shot where Orion got chosen as next prime and Megatron’s blue optics went red for the first time. Except, of course, in SG-verse, they stay blue.

Pictured above: Megatron, walking off, while snarling in rage, because the Council chose Orion Pax to be Prime, which means that they’re totally going to be using his darling innocent friend as a figurehead for their corrupt oppressive government, because Orion Pax is publicly popular for siding with the anti-caste movement and thus everyone will listen to him when, as Prime, he starts spewing the Council’s propaganda. It breaks Megatron’s ember, seeing his friend being used and abused like that.

It breaks his ember enough to start a war.

And then Orion gets the Matrix and it turns him evil. Poo.

I love that interpretation, but I never thought of the trigger/temper part. 

And I don’t really understand the part where you were explaining the Orion part, but I think I do? That Orion was innocent and believed in the council’s ability to change, but in truth the council was going to continue its evil ways, slowly numbing Orion into the perfect little model to spew out their lies; and from there, when the council began to say certain people (including Megatron) are going against their way of life, Orion does all he can to stop the ‘evil’-doers, when in truth it was him who continued to push until Megatron felt war was the only way for them to open their optics?

I may have gotten that wrong, but I think that’s what you were trying to say for that little bit?

Yeah, basically that!

I've seen a theory going around that, in canon TFP, the Council chose Orion Pax to be the next Prime not because they listened to him and thought "Hmm, we like his ideas, he'd be a good leader," but because they listened to him and thought "Compared to this Megatron guy, Orion Pax is an idealistic bimbo. We can name him Prime and use him as a figurehead and continue to do whatever the hell we want." Except, of course, the person that Orion Pax became was anything but a bimbo. But hey, the Council didn't know that at the time.

So I took that headcanon and kicked it up a notch for the SG TFP version: Megatron and Orion Pax went to the council together to go "The caste system is bad, let's do something about that!" and the Council chose to make Orion the next Prime rather than Megatron so that they could continue to push him around; and Megatron is outraged not because Orion "betrayed" him (as is the story given in canon), but because the council took Megatron's BFF and recruited him to fight against the very cause he believed in, and Orion was so naive at the time that he just fell for it and went "omg they named me Prime, that means they're listening to us! :D"

He stares at Starscream helplessly for a moment. 

He wants this. Oh, he wants this. He has wanted this for ages. To cross the one forbidden line with Starscream, to move from comrade and friend to lover…

He shakes his head. “No."

He wants it too much. Too much for him to go into this rationally. He still grieves for his own Starscream, and it would be unfair to treat this one as though he were the same—but he knew he would not be able to help but to do so. He would fall too fast, too hard. His judgments would become more clouded than they already were. He would lose himself, lose his body in Starscream’s mind and lose his mind in Starscream’s body—

And he cannot do that. His soldiers need Megatron the Gladiator. Not Megatron the Lover.

He looks away from Starscream. “I’m sorry. I’m not ready for this."

That could have gone worse, he supposed as his wings lowered just an inch. At least Megatron didn’t laugh in his face or try to be hurtful.

With a flutter of his wings, he stepped forward and to the side, attempting to catch Megatron’s attention. He gave a polite smile, which surprisingly reached his optics, which brightened a tiny bit.

"It’s okay," he replied reassuringly. He wished he could have guilt tripped the gladiator into at least trying, but he knew better. There were wounds that still needed time to heal. “Maybe another time, yes?"

He placed a servo on his shoulder, and soon his helm had nuzzled its way under the larger mech’s chin.

"Thank you. For not running away or being angry.."

Before he could stop himself, Megatron had pulled Starscream into a tight hug.

"I only wish I could have given you a better answer."
