nature is sacred, pass it on.
Important Reminder:
Witches who began their practice YESTERDAY are still valid witches Witches who began their practice 5 MINUTES AGO are still valid witches Witches who had to TEACH THEMSELVES are still valid witches Witches who had someone TEACH THEM are still valid witches Witches who have been practicing in secret for YEARS are still valid witches
Witches who didn’t realize that they’d been doing magic ALL THEIR LIFE are still valid witches
Witches who were initiated into a COVEN are still valid witches
Witches who work ALONE are still valid witches
You are a Witch the instant you decide you want to claim that Title, and no one can take that from you. So don’t let them take that from you
Baby witch tip!
The ultimate baby witch tip I can give you is this: there is a lot of misinformation on Tumblr. A LOT. My best advice is for you to invest in some books on witchcraft—mostly history, terminology, and practical use. I highly recommend these books to start with, although they’re certainly not the ONLY excellent books on witchcraft:
🌕 The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft
(Judika Illes)
I LOVE Judika Illes. Her books are incredibly informative, unbiased, and rich with real-life examples of witchcraft throughout the ages (and cultures). You won’t find any “fluff” in her books. Seriously, if you read any book on witchcraft, read this one. It covers EVERYTHING. At the very least, it’ll help you explore different spiritualities and magical traditions.
🌱Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner’s Guide
(Sandra Ingerman)
Shamanism is not witchcraft in itself, but it IS far older—shamanism is the basis for all ancient magical traditions around the world. “Shaman” is a Siberian word used to describe the practice of spirit working, which is found ALL over the world. To get a solid understanding of the spirit-working side of witchcraft, learning about shamanism is key. However, know that you shouldn’t call yourself a shaman even if you journey—historically, that title is only for those who have been chosen spiritually to be shamans, and who have yielded consistent results from their journeys. Learning how to journey to the three spiritual realms and communicate with the spirits there will help you…
- find your power animal
- find your spirit guide
- allow you to utilize healing, divination, and communication with spirits for various reasons.
Again, this isn’t some fun thing to do in your spare time—shamanism is sacred, ancient work tens of thousands of years old. If you feel called to work with spirits, this is one way to do so. Sandra Ingerman is well-known for her shamanism workshops and books, so she knows what she’s talking about and has lots of practical experience.
🔮Encyclopedia of Spirits
(Judika Illes)
Speaking of spirits, here’s another invaluable book for spirit-working. Even if you have no intention of working with spirits, it’s important to know about them. Judika Illes is VERY thorough in her research, so this book is packed full of info on spirits spanning all cultures and traditions. Learn how to attract spirits, develop relationships with them, work with them to make life easier, and learn their history. This book is ABSOLUTELY fascinating, I use it almost every day. Again, Judika Illes is a very reputable source.
⭐️Grandmothers Counsel the World: Women Elders Offer Their Vision of Our Planet
(Carol Schaefer)
In this book, 13 female elders from indigenous cultures around the world share their stories about how they came to devote their lives to their magical practices and spiritual paths. They come together as foretold by an old prophecy that all their cultures share. Their goal? To share their vision for the world and provide insight into how we can improve our lives through the use of traditional magic and attunement with the Earth. They each carry a message of compassion, hoping to share their knowledge and wisdom with everyone who reads this book. Rather than close off their beliefs to “outsiders”, they firmly believe that everyone should follow their example. I LOVE this book because it takes the Tumblr glasses off of witchcraft and enables you to see REAL wise women, women who have grown up with magic and use it to this day. The term “magic” here refers to their connection to the Earth, their extensive knowledge of medicinal plants, and their spirit journeys. This book is wonderful for gaining perspective into different cultures and their spiritual wisdom.
🕯The Book of Stones: Who They Are and What They Teach
(Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian)
This is my go-to book for crystals. It has EVERYTHING. Learn the scientific facts about crystals as well as the metaphysical ones. It even includes tips on how to meditate with crystals, how to utilize them for different purposes, and how to empower crystals with OTHER crystals that work synergistically. The index in the back of the book can be used to find crystals for specific physical ailments as well as spiritual ones.
🧙♀️Pure Magic: A Complete Course in Spell-Casting
(Judika Illes)
Can you tell I like Judika Illes? XD This book is full of spells that range from summoning spirits to love spells to protection and personal empowerment (including psychic awareness). Judika Illes, like always, includes practical historical information and a little bit about spirits as well. Her spells are REAL—they’ve been used successfully throughout the ages, taken from spiritual traditions around the world. In short, they’re tried-and-true. You won’t find anything made-up or untested here. She also doesn’t include any “malevolent” magic, for those who are uncomfortable with that. She DOES include spells on how to get someone to leave you alone, though.
WHAT NOT TO READ
Rather than tell you specific books not to read, here’s a general guide for who NOT to listen to:
❌ If the book (article, etc) was written by someone who is not a witch, has no historical information to offer, doesn’t really know the ins and outs of witchcraft, etc. A lot of outlets sell these kinds of books—most notably Urban Outfitters. As witchcraft becomes more “trendy”, plenty of non-spiritual, non-witchy journalists are getting on that cash cow and writing books that are shallow interpretations of real witchcraft, at best. They’re not very informative, or at least they don’t go into much detail. Just look at the author—have they been studying witchcraft for years? Have a degree in something relevant, such as history, anthropology, etc? Did they become a witch last year and already want to write a book? Have they actually TRIED their own spells, and have others replicated them with successful results? Really think about those things.
❌Be wary of big chains that try to cash in on the growing witchcraft trend. Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Earthbound, Target, and other big chains have no interest in giving you practical knowledge of witchcraft. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY. The result is a shallow representation of an ancient art, and most often it’s appropriated from other magical traditions with no credit. So do NOT put much trust in big chains that try to sell you metaphysical supplies and books. You’re better off looking for seasoned magic-workers for whom witchcraft is a lifestyle, not a way to make money.
❌ Avoid vague-sounding books. I once bought a book about Fairy Wichcraft, which detailed the author’s personal magical lifestyle and beliefs. So what is Fairy Witchcraft? Well I have no fuckin idea because the book was vague, ranting, and had almost zero historical information to go off of. Essentially I was supposed to just take the author’s word for it, which is never a smart thing to do. Especially disturbing was the fact that I later found out that a lot of the author’s historical claims about fairies were straight-up untrue. I made the mistake of spending over thirty bucks on it, and I’ll never read it again because it was essentially useless to me.
❌ NEVER get your ideas of witchcraft from works of fiction. Novels, movies, TV shows, and video games almost never represent true witchcraft. Even that movie everyone loves, “The Craft”, is almost disrespectful in its attempt to show spirit summoning. Although witchy entertainment is fun, it’s not real. Too many people get into witchcraft because they think it’s going to be like Harry Potter or Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but in reality it really isn’t. Too many people want all the aesthetic components of witchcraft because it caught their attention on TV or in a novel, but they completely sidestep the spiritual implications, historical knowledge, and real uses of witchcraft. Too many people try to erase the fact that witchcraft arose through ancient pagan paths, which are ALL Earth-centric. Plain and simple, Hollywood witchcraft doesn’t exist. It’s not supposed to—it’s made for non-witches who live in a Protestant-heavy culture who view witches as Satanic.
These are my best tips to getting started with learning the basics of witchcraft. I certainly didn’t include ALL the best books you could read, but they’re definitely a start. Be very wary of Internet witchcraft—people get their information from all kinds of places, and some people just make things up. These books will introduce you to an ancient art expressed in many different cultures and religions over tens of thousands of years. The best advice, though, is to experiment. Go out there and try things. Read as much as you can. Use your best judgement. Happy reading! 🎃

🍄A Beginners Guide to How to Work with the Fae🌸
First, You need to know their rules. The Fae aren’t going to have the same culture as we do, they aren’t human, and if you’re going to interact with them you’ll need to know this.
These rules are:
Don’t say “Thank You,” they don’t see that as you actually being thankful for what they’ve done
Always ask for things, never demand
Don’t use iron, the fae can’t touch it
Don’t accept their gifts, they’re version of gift giving is that if they give you something, they can ask for anything from you in return
Don’t say “sorry”, same reason as you shouldn’t say “thank you”. Try saying “my apologies” or “I am regretful”
Be polite
Never ask for their real name, names have power and you trying to get that power will make them turn on you fast
Now that you have a rough idea of how to act, now you need to know some things about what the Fae are like.
They’re Manipulative. They’ll find loopholes and exploit them
They mean everything they say. It might not seem like it, but the things they say might tell more than you expect
If you get close enough to a faerie, they might make a “faerie’s promise”, a promise they’ll keep till death
They use glamour, and therefore aren’t what they seem
Finally, here are some quick tips for working with the Fae.
Don’t leave yourself unprotected
If you walk into nature and don’t feel welcomed, leave
Never tell them your full name. Again, names have power
Offer them shiny or sweet gifts
Take care of nature, don’t hurt it. Hurting nature will make it less likely the Fae will want to work with you
Hope This Helped!
(PSA: This is not all there is on working with the Fae, I recommend doing some research of your own because there are so many things I can’t even begin to get into, this is just a good starting point for your journey with the Fae)
Pre-Ritual
Hello all, I decided to post about my pre-ritual activites if I am doing a bigger spell or ritual. I don’t do this for small rituals or spells but for ones where energy is going to be high and I want everything to be clear and simple. Some steps I do for all spells and rituals but the whole pre-ritual process is saved for the bigger stuff.
Cleanse the space
You can use sage or palo santo, or just simply take a broom and sweep the floor. Light incense or vacuum. Just so long as you are picturing the space clean and purified for the spell or ritual to come.
Cleanse the body
Do either a bath or shower, I would choose shower personally. Cleanse your body from head (starting with the hair) to feet. Picture bad energy washing off and going down the drain.
Gather the needed materials
Ideally a list has been made before the spell has begun and you take the materials you will need and put them all together. It’s best to have everything in one place so when the ritual or spell starts you don’t have to leave and come back.
Set up space
Set up your altar or room or whatever you do. I would set up a cloth and arrange items around on the floor for my spells or rituals. Just have everything set in place.
Cast Circle
This is why I try and have everything set up beforehand. I try to make sure I never have to open my circle back up for any reason till the spell is done.
For me I start with facing north and say “Guardians of Earth, I welcome thee into my space” and then repeat with East- Air, South- Fire, and West- Water before I walk the perimeter of the circle clockwise.

Altars and loving them
Your altar is your workspace, where center and it sort of represents your craft. When you look up altars you see the most beautiful altars! But what if yours doesn't look like that? Or what if you don't have everything that's on it.
Today i wanna share some advice i wish i got when i was a starting witch!
Witchcraft runs in the family and my mentor who started teaching me passed a few years earlier. We never got to talk about an altar so i didn't know what and what not to do. She never got to see me start and after her death i never expected to continue. So here's what i learned over time
Your altar does not have to be big and expensive!!!
When i started my craft all i had was the 4 elements, candles, a deer jaw, a wand and offerings. I made the wand myself from a fallen branch. I felt bad because it wasn't as cool as others.
Over time i added crystals i collected when i was a child. I bought a few bone fragments, made a cloth out of old clothing,...
An altar does not have to be big or expensive to be good or strong enough. It needs to represent who you are and what your craft is about! There is no specific guideline to what exactly should be on there. There is a base that can help you grow but it's completly yours!
Some small tips
Second hand shops have cool things like candle holders or old bottles
Make a decoration cloth out of old clothing! It's 1 of a kind!
Make things yourself! My wand was made from a branch i found! Be sure to thank nature for it's gifts!
Add elements from your deities, entities or what or whomever you work with! For example i work with Thor so i have the Thurisaz rune hanging on my altar!
Add candles! Candles give off energy!
I dried an orange or 2 and made a sun chain to hang on the wall together with a moon chain made out of old wood! Things can be so simple and make a big difference
But most importantly: love your altar! It is one of your centerpieces and where you work (and maybe worship). Your altar, no matter how big or small, is a part of you and should be loved as you love yourself! It grows overtime together with your craft!
Make things, have fun creating, buy things you like that you think will add to it! Anything goes!
(This is just my opinion on the matter! Everyone has a different view to it)

Witchcraft For The Broke Student | Student Witches
Witchcraft can be expensive if you’re trying to do everything “right”. Everyone needs to be responsible with money but us students have a hard time with that between textbooks and some of us not having a job, or having a job that pays next to nothing.
So what do we students do? We’re already broke and every spell online says you need a thousand and one things! Well, you have to think outside the box a little bit but it’s possible to be a witch without any ingredients.
Back To Basics
There are only two things any witch needs. Intention and record keeping. So long as your intentions are strong, anything is possible. You can whisper a confidence mantra over your coffee as a spell or dress using color correspondences, like red to attract romance or blue to keep calm. Everything you do can be magick if that’s what you desire.
The second thing is record keeping. It can be a beautiful leather bound journal or a binder full of notebook paper or just a collection of files on your computer. Learn to keep track of every witchy thing you do, either as a Book of Shadows or Witchy Journaling or Grimoire or whatever name suits your fancy. I use a blue binder that I call my Book of Mirrors.
Nature Is Powerful
Do you need crystals? Well, regular pretty rocks will do. Spell calls for a dollar bill you don’t want to spare? Leaves are a thing. And don’t forget water, we got it straight from the tap nowadays.
Finding things in nature is the most powerful tool for a witch because you found it. Going out and looking for your tools in the big natural world connects you with said big natural world. Rocks are rocks, not matter how colorful and pretty and there’s some nice stones everywhere.
Use what you already have access too. Cinnamon and bay leaves are powerful herbs and they’re probably in the local grocery store or your mom’s spice cabinet.
Get Crafty
You can make a wand pretty easily. It doesn’t have to be a specific wood from a certain tree, as long as it is cleansed and blessed and charged, a wand made from a dowel rod and beads can be just as powerful. Are you artsy? Paint your depictions of deity or draw your own tarot cards.
A little bit of creativity can go a long way.
The Spell Says What?
So you need five crystals, incense, three votive candles and the blood of a goat? Ok, all jokes aside some spells online call for a crazy amount of items. Wanna know the way around this? Write your own spells! If you write it you can only include items you have! Or items you can use at school.
Don’t Be Afraid To Go Your Own Way
Research is very important but sometimes when you can’t buy all the books you gotta write your own way. Most basics can be found online and even some more complex stuff. But in the end your practice is your own, so write down what you do. Practice witchcraft and figure out what you believe and want to add to your craft. It’s your thing and no one else's.
Don’t be off put by all the money people who have it spend. If you find a couple good books you like and one crystal you really connect with, then you have all you need. Make your craft your own, money doesn’t need to be involved unless you gotta perform a money spell.
Blessed Be- Nia Endellion
