There was something really beautiful about our first Jon POV being him calling Myrcella stupid, Robert fat, Jaime beautiful, talking about how hard it is in an anti-bastard world and than running out the dining room crying. Thatâs my goat.

âIf I could show her Winterfell . . . give her a flower from the glass gardens, feast her in the Great Hall, and show her the stone kings on their thrones. We could bathe in the hot pools, and love beneath the heart tree while the old gods watched over us.â - jon v, asos

jonâs name not being jon is actually very important to me. not in a weird targaryen way. a very central part in jonâs story is the struggle with identity, and the parentage reveal will obviously create a new struggle over it. jon being told the identity he has been told his entire life is a complete lie while itâs simultaneously him and all his life experience will be extremely difficult for him. i think him originally being named something different than jon is very important in his struggle if jon snow was truly real or not and i donât think it works as good without it
a problem with this fandom and theories about twow/ados is that most of the time people only think about their favorite character rather than an entire story. on an individual level, these theories make perfect sense for the character but not for the rest of them. it has to make sense for everyone and also be good for the individual. people forget the broader aspect and that this is an ensemble story
Honestly the Targaryens have so much audacity during the War of the Five Kings. Theyâre all âomg these assholes STOLE our rightful throne.â But like⌠Aegon the Conqueror won that throne through conquering and bloodshed?? And thatâs essentially what Robert did? Like he didnât steal it guys. He just won. Just take the L guys. Rhaegar did, in the show at least (R+L= J).
That being said, I love Daenerys and she can be as power hungry as she wants :)
i think a difference between the two is that aegon the conqueror didn't take an already existing throne/monarchy. he created an entire new kingdom rather than name himself king of that specific place. robert and the rest of the rebels were vassals to the iron throne before the rebellion, he then proclaimed himself king of the kingdom that the targaryens created. so the biggest difference for me is that the targaryens were outsiders while Robert was part of the kingdom, people therefore see him as usurping the throne
it's difficult to theorize jon because we readers know more than we are intended to. all theories are both too vague because none of the reveals have happened yet, while also too obvious because we know what the reveals are. if we get too much textual evidence it ruins the r+l=j reveal because we would know about it for a fact. but a lot of jon's future is going to be dependent on that specific reveal, giving us a lot of textual evidence to theorize about different things

Some people really should not be reading ASOIAF if they canât handle the fact that this is an ensemble cast and thereâs no singular âmain characterââŚ.
i honestly like the idea that jon really does echo rhaegar in some way so that anybody who knew and was closely familiar with rhaegar could and would recognize similarity that could raise some suspicion and curiosity which is why it works rather well that barristan wasnt at winterfell and the sole reason this plottwist was not ruined earlier really was bc cersei and jaime truly do not give a single fuck about any person around them enough to realize this like yall are npcs with blurred out faces to them

this answer was originally from an ask about rhaegar haunting the narrative but i am stupid and deleted it soooo it's lost forever. this is the original response however so anon can get my thoughts! :) "this was very interesting to read and you have great points! :D i completely agree that one key aspect is him being very ambiguous for the readers and characters. i went into that somewhat in my post when i explained that he is the character we know the least about with motivations, thoughts and who he is as a person and how different characters think of him. however i didn't go in much detail on that or that it was because of ambiguity. reading your text makes me wish i would have explained it as such. i also agree that rhaegar and danyâs connection is more symbolic rather than personal, but rhaegar is still a part of dany. while he does haunt her in a more targaryen legacy way, it is still him she thinks is the last dragon and then understands it as herself. and she does process rhaegar in a way imo, she wants to know about him and learn who he was as a person, even if jorah said that no man truly knew him. however, you can argue that rhaegar is only connected to the targaryen dynasty for daenerys but he is still connected with her. i think all characters are connected with rhaegar in a very non personal way and more symbolic and such, because everyone has a different opinion on him and no one truly knows if that is the correct one, not even the readers. i think the only person who really knew him was himself. every character that he will be important to in twow and forward will also be very disconnected from him as a person, because jon and dany will be the ones that he will influence the most. as i said in my original post, âhowever, every character that has interacted a lot with each other will be affected by their death.â means that characters will have affected each other. every story will have characters that individual characters remember. i just don't think that counts as haunting the narrative. they do haunt the characters they have interacted with. i think every well written character will somewhat haunt certain characters or bring forth certain themes. the key point in my post is that the character have to be so connected to the overall story in such a huge way to haunt the narrative, and to just haunt specific characters or bring forth a certain theme don't do that imo. that's why i donât see those other characters as truly haunting the narrative, because they only have such a small area which they currently haunt. obviously people will have different opinions because they interpret the text differently. so you see haunting the narrative as more open than i do, which is fine btw, i really think it's fun with different ways to interpret the story. and you don't have to apologise for the long ramble, i thought it was very interesting to read! i also ramble in my post, i get an idea and then just write. who knows if i feel the same in a week or so"
It happens, no worries. Thanks for reading my 3 a.m. rambling anyway đ . Want me to resend it to you? It might not come out exactly the same..
if you want to you can but you donât have to. i do have my answer from before written somewhere else so i can just make a post without you writing everything again and write that it was from an ask or something if you want to read it? đ
to the person that asked me something to my inbox, I accidentally deleted the post i posted answering and can't repost your ask... :(
if you ever see this, just know i did read the entire thing and did have a complete response. your thoughts were very interesting and i didn't think you had a long ramble <3

Level 1 asoiaf theorist: guys I think Jon MIGHT be a Targaryen
Level 555 asoiaf theorist: so the lovecraftian fish people are working with the maesters to usher in the Grand Northern Conspiracy, which will result in the annihilation of the tree god hivemind by Ser Pounce the cat (who has skinchanged into a dragon) and also Roose Bolton is an immortal vampire who wears peopleâs skin
