Of course! My advice is know the situation: how your character acts, reacts and the reason for that, choose an RP partner and read different things from them! Wips, starters, asks, etc, know their character as well, you don't necessarily need to know their character inside and out or know the media they are from, everyone writes people differently, some want it as canon compliant as possible if it's a fictional character, some like to take the character and run with it.

My advice on asks and starters? Make it gauge enough to where the story can branch out, nobody wants too rigid of a story point, that's what pov writing is for but don't make it too vague to the point that one person is doing all the writing

Make sure to respect the writer and their boundaries, most people wont write with someone they know they don't like writing with

Roll with the unpredictability! It's a partnership, an improv 'yes, and' way of writing (in loose terms) the most fun thing is just how fun it is that you don't know what the other person will write, maybe the character will act like they usually do and sometimes they won't

If you are talking about your rp partners character, keep it to actions that they would do and usually don't cross over too many actions, this is called 'godmodding' where basically you control their character because you want them to act predictably or to move something along, this isn't fun for them, it's supposed to be fun

And that's the main thing, just have fun, it's not as scary or as intimidating as it seems and you'll learn along the way!
