The Waiting Game || Persephone and Hades
He would have never guess her frustration, not with the way she smiled and blushed and glanced at him occasionally. Hades felt a warmth pool in his stomach as the young goddess’ hand reached up to cup his jaw and she grinned faintly at him. It wasn’t the same innocent little smirk she’d wear when he teased her, a chaste and polite grin while she perhaps internally scolded him for being so brash. No, there was a hint of something there. He could almost taste it. He’d tainted her, and this was the first shadow he could see of that effect. “I would,” he responded honestly, his gaze lowering to her form as it neared his, kneeling between his legs, and his own lips curled even higher as he glanced back up at her. The hand on her chin slowly squeezed before he drew a faint line down the curve of it, down her throat as his eyes followed the invisible line. “It’s only a promise if you wish for it to be, Kore,” he murmured. She leaned towards him and Hades lifted his head to hold her gaze. His steel-blue eyes were serious, but his lips held the faint smile of mischief as she dragged her finger around his lips. Slowly his hands lowered to her waist and held her there as his lips parted for a moment, just long enough to lazily snag her finger with a feather soft bite. To think, this sort of teasing resided under the virginal facade of his wife. If only he had known sooner. “But I can tell you now, my love…you will enjoy every second of it,” he purred softly, his lips following along her hand, grazing her wrist before he gently pulled her forward and pressed a kiss against the flat plane of her stomach as beads of water rolled down past him.
Hades enjoyed this position for a moment longer, leaving a scant few presses of his lips along the pale flesh as he awaited her answer. He hoped she said yes. Every fiber of his being hoped that she would stay. He knew it was a risk, what with Thelma being so protective of the young woman, but it was a risk he was willing to take. He then heard Seph speak, her voice nearly lost once again in the dark warmth of the bath, before Hades’ smile grew against her stomach. His heart gave a lurch in his chest as he lifted his head to gaze up at her from his vantage point. “Good.” That was exactly what he wanted to hear. His hands hesitantly left her waist and, grasping onto the edge of the tub, he began to shift awkwardly into a stand in front of Seph. “That…that makes me very happy to hear,” he said, clearing his throat slightly as he gazed down at her before turning to step out of the tub. “I’ll get you a towel,” he murmured, reaching around in the darkness before grasping onto the article he had been searching for and handing it towards Pers.
His teeth. The light jag remained in its fluent state even as the god she found herself between let go of the thin digit from the soft confines of his teeth. She noticed every movement, every moment, every second he spent against the sheath of her wrist, gladly exploring her more with the monstrous palms he had for hands. It amazed her still how someone of her King's size could still act so gentle, so loving and passionate yet still remained reserved and careful as if the spring goddess would've shattered into a thousand pieces of porcelain. Maybe it intrigued her, mezmorized her in ways only few would understand. A distinct pattern of goosebumps raised from the pieces Hades had granted permission to touch with nothing but the grace of his lips over the flesh of her cream-colored abdomen, unable to control the tiny shudder that rippled over her form against him. She couldn't move away with the hands placed gently at her sides--though the only reason Persephone would ever consider to do so such was due to the light tickling sensation that he left in his little journey, thankful that the cold droplets soothed the hot spots of her fondled skin and mentally trying to push away the threat of coloration that wished to stain her features. Lifted only somewhat by the guide of his hold, her hands rested along his shoulders, almost propped up against him entirely as her nails barely scratched along his hairline and her gentle gaze remained cast downward at him, the lucious smile starting to fade as she ran her digits lightly over the threads of ghost blonde.
Kore watched as he lifted his gaze back up to her, a look of giddyness blooming in the depths of those cold steel rings of blue that met her own. It brought a feeling of enlightenment almost, the way Hades looked at her. Had he always looked at her like that? Even from the beginning...? It almost saddened her, how blind and ignorant she must've been in the times she never dared to really witness him. That she never wished to look upon the little grin for what it truly was. Idiot. And to think she would have to leave him in a few days time for the surface, to bring life and paradise back to the mortals above as she was supposed to...the thought made her cringe on the inside. Seeing as he began to shift beneath her into a stance, Persephone gladly waded away a few feet to give her poor giant of a husband some moving room. Really, she could've moved up with him...but it was cold outside the blanket of Phlegethon warmth. And standing in itself was likely going to be some difficultly, anyways.
A long arm reached to the shadows she could not make out, before the male returned it with a towel in hand, offering it over. You can do this, she encouraged briefly to herself. Taking a deep breath, both tony palms grasped either side of the tub's edge, lifting herself (regretably) into a dripping standpoint. She made sure not to double over once the spikes of pain began to settle in once more, a shaky reach of her fingers feeling over the material of the cloth before taking it completely, wrapping it along her shoulders in order to make up for the heat she now missed.
The cool, almost mist-like brush of the infant’s spectral touch graced the god’s features, and a feeble smile grew on his lips as he held the newborn’s gaze. It grasped at his nose, and Hades gave a throaty chuckle at how excited the simple act had made the babe, little feet flailing against his arm. It was a first for a soul to act with such delight when faced with their master. He only looked away when Seph answered him, his grin widening as she giggled at him. “I wasn’t scared. I was just…being cautious,” he murmured. “I didn’t want the thing to start screaming.”
The thing. He closed his gaze as it gently passed a hand along his forehead, down his nose. It wasn’t a thing. It was a baby. A child. Someone’s child. He sighed through his nose, his lids lifting open slightly, just enough to peer at the baby through his lashes. It cooed and gurgled like any infant would, and his smile grew saddened as he felt the tiny hand reach for his lips, grasping weakly at them as the child’s eyes remained wide. He wondered how long the child’s mother had with it before Thanatos claimed it. Or if the child’s father would hold it like this, allowing it’s tiny grasp to roam his face. He wondered if they knew how lucky they were to have this child, even if it was for the briefest amount of time. “I wonder if it had a name,” he murmured, looking up at Seph with the same sad smile he wore while studying the babe.
I wonder if it had a name...
Those words heavy repeated themselves in the depths of her conscious mind as Persephone watched the two opposite souls interact with one another. A part of her wanted to say, desperately, that the child was granted a name of its own before its failed decent into the Afterlife. But even little Kore knew that such hoped possibilities were unlikely at best. It was more-so that the baby was not given anything than the short breath of life it took after it--she, was conceived. She knew that the mother didn't name the infant, out of the chance that names strung heavy attachments and the mother would've never been able to bear with the sorrow and despair of knowing her child would not live in the long years she hoped by her side.
But how could Kore truly say that allowed to a man who simply brightened at the sight of a soul who was not even nearly afraid of his dark presence? Of not knowing what power the god truly held as the little phantom embraced him as if Hades was already family..? She let herself smile for him in the answer he was likely hoping for--but even the young regime was finely aware that Hades was not naive. He never missed anything when it came to the faintest wavers of emotion that glimpsed quickly over her features, no matter how hard she tried to hide behind the curtain she wished to draw to make the male feel at peace rather than sadness. A warm hand came to stroke over the bundle's head, the nursling too enchanted by the King's companionship still enough to acknowledge a glance at the goddess who found her. But Persephone didn't mind in the slightest. She loved to observe, to not take away the attention the newborn granted Hades so openly.
"I'm sure she had a beautiful name to match that little smile of her's~..." The young girl answered genuinely, azure eyes flickering over to meet his.

It was almost funny, how easily she could tell that Hades’ pinpoint of sight was the little Queen herself, staring awkwardly off to the sides to hide the blush that threatened to mold over her expression. How could he do that so easily? Get a reaction out of her over the almost insignificant of things, even when they were talking? Was it natural? Or did he really have such unprecedented control over the flickers of emotions she portrayed for him? Kore didn’t know, maybe even couldn’t know, and a little ball of frustration wound itself within her nerves because of that. Grrrr, damn him. And his smile. And his charming little hints. And his shimmering white teeth. And big arms. And long torso.
The proximity of their forms began to diminish the moment his heated digits caught the apple of her jaw as they lightly bantered to one another in the space between, a hot hand coming up to cup the structure of his visage tenderly while a tempting grin began to curl the ends of her lips, grazing over his own as she crawled further over his lap, kneeling in the seam of Hades’ build in the meantime, “Would you, now…?” The brow that had lifted itself inched further, “It sounds more of a promise than a statement from what I’m hearing~…” Was she really doing this? Considering this? Such scandalous implications always frightened the spring in the past. The binding, the restraining, the torturous hold of one while the other likely squirmed beneath. It was a scene Persephone never saw herself in—so why did a rush of excitement begin to bloom over the outskirts of the humming organ in her chest? The wet strands of her hair dripped cold droplets down the dipped archway of her back, posting herself in front of him without a second thought as the hand over the line of his jaw began to lightly draw over the outline of his mouth carefully, patiently, with a single index finger as she awaited his next move, the free palm dangling at the goddess’ side soon securing itself on the edges of the bath behind him to hold herself up—or, at least, try, with what little strength Kore had to offer anyways.
His words brought back her attention again from the hush that had briefly laid out before them, and maybe for just a moment, Persephone let them sink in. At first, she did consider them, sharing a bed together, the outlines of their forms sunk into one another comfortably as they slept. It was a nice, pleasant vision she could see, really. But a lingering doubt then began to flood in her mind: Thelma, the literal matriarch of the Underworld who was scary by all means in every sense. And the usual morning routine implicated her daily check up of the little goddess who was always found on the either side of the palace always. And to find the two spouses together, in the same bed, after a night of their first time? Thelma would definitely have something to say about it to both of them, the results highly insinuating into some punishment neither of them would enjoy. But Persephone hesitated in her refusal to say ‘no’ to the King’s request…she could always get up before dawn, sneak away to the safety of her own chambers gladly to save them both the likely consequence that remained for them. Then again, when did the young woman ever make a sound, anyways—other than what seemed moments ago before this…With her thoughts in check then, the female finally nodded gently, the tiniest of grins forming along the stilled expression that came over, “Okay, Pluto.”
The god made a half-hearted noise of protest, not out of annoyance but of confusion as the goddess took his hand and placed it beneath the babe. He could feel it through the blankets, cold as death itself, but the feeling didn’t startle the god or pull him away. He was used to that sort of sensation, after all. Hades carefully steading the little thing in his arms, his hands taking such care not to drop the precious bundle even though, in all honesty, it probably wouldn’t do a thing since this was just a soul and not an actual child. When Persephone cooed at him and released the infant into his hold entirely, Hades briefly glanced up to meet her gaze with a brief smirk tugging on the corner of his lips before his features grew serious with concentration once again.
He stared at the child, and it stared back. “It’s…so tiny,” he murmured as the two had gazes locked on one another. When the infant’s expression started to shift, a bolt of panic raced through the god; was it going to cry? What did he do? Maybe he was staring at it for too long and it didn’t like it? But before he could hold his arms out towards Seph for her to take the thing, it’s little face scrunched with a smile and chubby hands grasped up at the air towards him. Hades blinked a few times, not even realizing his own lips had started to show traces of a smile mirroring the baby’s, and he started to lean his head down while lifting the bundle to allow the child to try and touch his face. “Huh…” he scoffed, looking up at Seph, brows lifted high. “It…it’s not crying.”
The infant was granted a higher place closer to the male that held it so delicately in his large grasp, finally able to grab and touch at the matching placid cheeks it sought for firstly, light little pats and squeezes moving to pull gently at the unmoving flesh as the child appeared starstruck between the little giggles and noises it made in response, even going as far as to pinching and touching the nose offered to it, the little legs kicking happily to fidget in its excitement over something so unimportant, general, every-day like. Persephone did her best to contain the most pleased and happy of smiles she could've ever produced in her life, covering such features with the ghost of a hand in the meanwhile as if she feared she would disturb the moment if even the peep of a sound would destroy the moment entirely. He spoke up, and Kore forgot to withhold the tender giggle that erupted from her throat, "See? There's nothing to be scared of~." The goddess teased lightly over in a hushed tone, ringing her hands together fondly as she watched with utter patience as the two souls mingled together without the use of words as the tiniest of palms placed itself along his forehead, drawing gracelessly over the blonde eyebrows and finally settling at the bridge of the god's nose.
Hades mirrored her arched brow with one of his own before his expression slowly settled into a slight, childish pout. He glanced back at the infant, his heart giving an uneasy skitter in his ribs. “Babies are perceptive,” he uttered stubbornly before Seph offered to help him hold her. “I…uh…” the god watched the young woman turn towards him with the small bundle in her arms. Of course Seph was a natural when it came to comforting the little ones, but him? Hades was cold and not the one that child souls ran to for comfort. But…what harm could it do?
The man shifted from one foot to the other before slowly rubbing his hands against his robes as if to dust them off. Like it even mattered. But still, the god felt like wiping his sweating palms might ease his nerves somewhat. “Okay,” he relented, raising his hands palms-up as he looked down at the young goddess, pressing his lips together uneasily as he waited for her to deposit the newborn into his arms.
The little goddess smiled gently as she watched the King prepare himself, as if he was preparing for an inquiry even he could not overcome on his own. Patting the infant along the underside of her back, Kore then began to start, reaching and tenderly grabbing one of his upturned wrists to bring them closer, "Here~," She chuckled airily, letting his palm drift underneath to hold the back of the child's head while Persephone placed the little one to practically sit in the other, steadying them both for a moment and fixing the bundle of blankets that paraded along the permanent porcelain face that gazed in utter astonishment. From there, the Queen took a few slow steps back, hand drifting away from the delicate babe, "There we go..." She uttered encouragingly with a light glint of enlightenment, gaze flickering between the two every few moments.
The infant looked a little taken aback by the sight of the male, tilting its head enough to the side to imply a bit of confusion, lost in the steel-pooled leer of the fretting god above her. Soon, the tiny face began to shift from puzzlement to gleeful joy, a wide, toothless smile shining up at him as the smallest hands rising up towards him as if to attempt to touch the man's face, pinching the air instead as the sounds of teeny laughs and coos filled the air between them.

Hades stared silently at the goddess, watching her sway with the infant soul in her arms, noting every subtle shift of her gaze as she played with the baby. The little thing probably had no idea what was going on, but it still seemed to react to Seph’s expressions with silent wonderment. He nodded as she explained that Thelma and the other servants had gone to clean up, leaving the babe in Persephone’s care. “Well as long as someone got it done,” Hades murmured, only to see the young woman half turn towards him. Her question drew a slight quirk of his brows, a subtle twitch of confusion before his gaze darted to the infant in her arms. “Do…what?” he stuttered, eyes flickering back to Persephone.
His heart palpitated, and the large god blinked several times before his expression shifted to a small frown and he gave a subtle shake of his head. “I-I don’t…I don’t think she’d like it if I held her. She…she looks comfortable with you.” He gestured at the young Spring before his arms fell to his sides. “Kids…don’t really like me.” He was too big, too imposing, for the young souls to be around. They normally hid behind the others they came with, peering out at Hades from their spots, not daring to near the god they feared.
A brow lofted and arched questioningly at the refusal of such an offer, and yet, the tender expression still remained as she give him a playful, skeptical look up at him. She could see the uneasy waver in his form, his eyes, the way he casted his leer from one being to the next, shaking her head for a moment before she stilled her shifting entirely, “She’s not even old enough to realize where she is, Pluto. I highly doubt she’ll be able to recognize who you are just by a single touch~.” Adjusting the child in her arms for a moment, Persephone gestured towards the brooding deity with the simple nod of her head, “Hold out your hands, now,” She commanded gently, “I’ll teach you how to hold her…” In the back of her mind, the maiden was aware that was being a little bit pushy, maybe even a lot, given that she pursued the fact that Hades was likely not to have a choice in the matter, anyways. Perhaps it was a maternal reaction on her part, despite the struggle to not bond with such a helpless entity who would remain permanent in its state for literal eternity, stuck in this life as an infant in the hopeful care of others who were willing and patient.
Kore shook her head faintly to brush away such pained thoughts, keeping her calmed composure as she awaited for his arms to do as she had requested. And maybe even the faintest of playful smirks had decided to ease its way through as well, letting her head gradually tilt it’s way to one side, a hand genuinely patting the side placement of the bundle in her arms as it wiggled in a brief struggle for resumed comfort.

Hades’ brow wrinkled with a frown as he leaned to the side, staring at the small bundle once again. A tiny, chubby hand grasped at Persephone, pale as the moon itself, as the god’s stomach turned. The sight of souls was nothing to disgust the god…but even he had a point where apathy turned into sadness and sympathy. Such a tiny little thing, too small to even make it to the gates of this realm…it broke his heart. “Oh…I-I, uh, figured as much,” the god said slowly, making sure to keep his voice low as he approached Seph from behind. He gazed down at her, then at the infant, before staring at the side of her head from his vantage point. Her eyes were entirely fixed on the baby, and Hades could see the faint traces of maternal pride and love being exuded just by her expression or the way she soothed and comforted the little spirit. “Hm,” he hummed softly, gaze briefly flickering to the doorway he had just strolled through. “I take it that’s where Thelma is? Cleaning up the kitchen?” Normally he tasked the older matron with going up as far as she could towards the surface and scanning the terrain for lost souls too feeble, young, or otherwise incapable of making it down to the depths of the Underworld. But it seemed like Seph had taken that job upon herself which, in all honesty, wasn’t that surprising. Her tender heartedness made the goddess the perfect one to carry out such a task. Hades glanced down at the cooing baby, lips pressing together slightly.
The spring never sought the making attempt to move, swaying her form carefully from side to side in order to make sure the child in her hold felt comforted, secure in one that it trust, at least before the time it was to take the infant to its new-found ‘home’. Though when it threatened to cry, Persephone made the attempt to make a surprised face in return down at the dainty creature in her arms, eyes matching the widened grey eyes for a moment until it stopped the infant entirely, face going blank as it gazed up in awe from the times that the paled eyes really could see her, a tiny palm reaching in hopes to touch her face, patting at the spot along her rosed cheek , where as the goddess felt nothing but cold air brush alongside her warm semblance. But Persephone could not help the smile inching along the corners of her lips, even so, head perking to one side as she listened to the man placed behind her, feeling the shadow of his visage overlook them both, “Yes, she and the others have already cleaned up…even though I insisted that I would take the duty and left the child in her care…” A small sigh left her, taking her eyes off the little girl in her arms and turn a piece of her body to slowly face him, an idea perked in the depths of those brilliant blue pools, “….Do you want to hold her…?” Her head tilted just enough to let the side nearly touch the line of her shoulder, her curious leer fixed now completely on him as Kore still shifted gently from one leg to the other patiently.
Three Have Found the Underground.
"No, I am fine." Replied Hades, crossing his arms. Takign a few steps forward he smiled "—Thank you however.”
"O-Oh! Apologies, Lord Hades, I did not see it was you.." At that point, her face began to tint a light pink color, inescapable of such a feature then, covering her face with her palm. But nonetheless, an embarrassed smile soon made it’s way through, as well as a faint little chuckle that dropped her shoulders gently, "Well, if you ever need anything, I suppose you know now I’m welcome to help~."
Hades was midway through hollering for Persephone when he strode through a doorway and came to a sudden, jarring stop. Normally seeing his wife wasn’t cause for alarm, quite the opposite in fact. But the bundle she held in her arms, that was alarming. There was no doubt in his mind of what was swaddled within her tender hold. “Uh…Seph?” the god’s voice wavered slightly as he glanced from the baby in her arms to the goddess herself. Swallowing back a knot in his throat, he lifted a brow at her. “Is there…uh…something I missed?”
The tiniest of hands wrapped itself carefully along the single index finger the young woman held up over the bundle that squirmed in her secure arms. Unfazed by the burst of the door, Persephone paced calmly, peacefully about the room with such light steps, one would’ve assumed she was hovering, eyes fixed almost eternally upon the porcelain face that stared blindly back up, offering small noises of both innocent joy and confusion in the midst of the silence until the god standing in the door spoke, questioning the being in her tender hold. For a few moments, she said nothing, swaying from side to side before she let out a slow breath, azure gaze flickering over to him, “Do not worry…She is not ours…” She whispered softly, audibly, the frozen figure of the man just a few feet across, leer falling back down with the faintest smile gliding slowly across her features, “The poor thing was too young, too infant to even make it to the entrance…Her screams were so loud, it shattered most of the glass in the kitchen..”
