there’s a legitimate argument to be made that robby and jack are canonically gay, but in the way that ben affleck and matt damon are gay, as in they have sex often but don’t consider that to be homosexual activity.

though i don't have any particularly strong feelings on the odyssey movie itself, i do think tumblr's vitriolic reaction to the changes it made is so, so odd. it's something that ultimately stems from the same issue i have with complaints about most adaptational changes, which is that keeping everything exactly the same effectively defeats the purpose of an adaptation.

if you enjoy homer's odyssey and really want to get pedantic about the meaning of random side character #12, i would recommend you stick to reading the source material. but don't get mad at a creator who wants to repurpose the themes from that source material to tell a story that reflects the issues of their time.

and forgive me for thinking that self-described mythology nerds would perhaps understand the inclination to refine stories through the lens of modernity.

So next time you run into nonbelievers, remind them that the atomic bomb is a blessing— a peaceful guardian and protector of the basic doctrines of liberty and democracy, against the obstacles of communism. something that gets lost in the weeds of the second trump administration is that he has either exiled or alienated so many staffers to the point where the only people left in the white house are not just comically sycophantic, they're also extremely young and inexperienced. some of his current staff are long-haulers from back in 2016, when that campaign was seen as such a longshot and crackpot movement that the only people who worked on it were the most radicalized and most opportunist republicans working in politics. you can draw a straight line from the interns in his first campaign to some of his senior staffers in 2026. a bunch of 20 and 30 year olds are running communications for the president of the united states.
