britney has been told she was perfect since she was a child, so naturally she believes it. her mother made sure to instill it in her brain that she was simply better than them all and that she should never ever settle for less than perfection. of course that meant that if britney ever slipped up, there were consequences and britney had to learn that the hard way.she lost her first puppy to stepping out of line. she had gone to a girls birthday party when her mother said no and when she had gotten home her dog had been sold. ever since she has been more careful.

since she traveled a lot as a little girl it was hard to make friends. and since she was in such a competitive area all the time, she never knew who was being real with her and who wasn’t. each time she let her guard down she was tripped in dance class or her mic was turned down. because of these instances britney just vowed to never ever let herself get close to anyone. no one was going to see the real her,just the plastic-perfect mold she fitted.

when she nailed her first big role it was like a dream. they set became her second home. her cast mates were friendly at face-value, but she knew that they all envied her for being a triple-threat. her mother would whisper lies into her ear about how they were all waiting for her downfall and she simply believed them. her mother had only led her to the path of success and sure she was harsh but she loved her, right?

music was always her goal.she loved to act and dancing was fun, but singing was where she felt she shined the brightest. she was so excited to share the songs she had written over the years to people who would get her, but of course with being a pop star came sacrifice. her songs would be watered down so heavily that they came out as fake and generic. britney britney became the name to her plastic image. and britney eventually just....let herself become that fully.

the only time she was shown love was when she did good and soon she became addicted to the validation.she did stupid things for the sake of being loved and when she was rejected she had a hissy fit. she did not take rejection lightly one bit. if she wasn’t number one, there was no number one. and up and coming singer/songwriter valentina learned that the hard way. britney put her through hell that was so bad no one even remembers her trash songs.

chip declining to tour with her has driven her into a complete frenzy. she has made an anti chip twitter and does the MOST to tear his name to shreds. she sends anonymous gossip and makes up stories about him, his past, and any friend of his he had heard of. she only feels a little bit of remorse really. because he didnt give her the validation she needs, so he is on her shit list.

now that she is at corona she is more than determined to take the spotlight from everyone and anyone. she will get the most likes on insta, she will be the person people adore the most, and she is determined to drop music so grand that the island wont be talking about anyone else.

but in her spare time she is giving dancing and singing lessons to make everyone love her and gain some following. she refuses to get too close to anyone and will be damned if she is outsmarted by anyone.

truthfully though,britney is kind of a ditz. she just doesnt even realize it.

she will not frown in public.

and she has no idea who she really is anymore. she does not know who she is without being britney-britney.

she is in constant contact with her mother who is her agent and still believes just about anything she is told.

“I can’t wait to hear it.” Despite their differences that much is true; Skip has always respected Britney as an artist, knowing she’s out there raising the bar for the rest of them. “All the focus is on the band for now. We’re trying to come up with something really good.” Of course, all they have so far is Jello which is the last thing from good, but if they have anything to say about it the song will never be seen by anyone. “You think I had a choice?” Skip laughs with a shake of his head. If this were a couple months ago it would have been bitter, Skip prepared to make a scene, outraged at the mere prospect of having to share the stage and attention with anyone else. It still wouldn’t have been a choice, and they were struggling to come up with so much as one good song, but he’s surprised to find that he doesn’t exactly hate it. “Apparently you make one scene and you’ve gotta form a boyband to fix your image.” Rolling his eyes, he takes another sip of his drink. “I’m sure Chip told you, though.” 

Britney could appreciate the fact that if Skip was anything, it was honest. Chip had told her about the boyband, yes, but she didn’t know if he was telling people that he was talking to Britney as much as he was (even though it was obvious). “I think you like being in this boy band more than you want to admit. But that’s okay. It looks like it could work really well for you. And your boosting local talent and that just makes things look even better on your end.” She was sure he was secretly happy to do it too. "We don’t have to talk about Chip every time we talk, you know. I think its probably best if we find other stuff to talk about.”

chip had long ago lost track of how much time he had spent laying in his bed, staring at the ceiling. from the moment he woke up his phone had been a warzone, notification center an absolute nightmare as his social media was lit up and his label and manager called and texted him relentlessly. and, as he does whenever he chooses to wallow in his own self pity, chip had ignored every name that flashed across his screen – even sending his mother to voicemail because the last thing he needed to hear was his father’s judgement. as the day went on, his mood got better – even if it was minor. so by the time he sees britney’s name flash across his screen, he decides he’s well enough to answer that call. even if he’s probably not going to be the best at conversation right now. “yeah i know,” he sighs, pressing the phone to his ear. “you got that kick like cajun is one of the worst lyrics ever written. you don’t have to tell me.” though it was unlikely that britney would be calling to rub it in his face. @britbritsworld​

britney didn’t know what she was doing anymore. after the masquerade and her mother finding out she was seeing chip again, she has had a pit in her stomach. on one hand, she just wants to tell her mother to fuck off and let her live her life. on the other, she doesn’t want to upset her, because that means she could lose her side project with mel. she hasn’t threatened to pull her latest work from her, but britney knew this game. it could happen any second, right when she didn’t expect it. britney’s mother was cruel more than she was kind and she wished she didn’t have to be so prepared for the worst, but she was. so when she had woken up to news of a certain song dropping for a certain boyband she knew, her heart sank. she had no proof it was her mother, but britney wondered. and when she called chip she fully intended to say something; that it might be her fault for being with him again, but the moment she heard his voice, all she wanted to do was comfort him, not stress him out more. “i....hi. i wasn’t calling to tease you,” she said, trying to figure out how to think as she spoke to him. “i just wanted to see how you were holding up. i think it’s a cute song.”

Once resisting the events this place put on, not wanting to admit his stay here is turning into more than just a brief vacation, he now finds himself at the ball with little hesitation. Coming back from the bar with drinks in hand, Skip looks around the room, groaning quietly under his breath as he realizes his date has disappeared somewhere. Fuck. Glancing around him, trying to find one of the few familiar faces he actually knows, he breathes out a sigh of relief as he notices Britney not too far away. “Rumberry punch? Whatever the fuck that is,” he offers, holding out one of the glasses to her. “So uh… how’s the album coming?” Skip asks, glancing over at Britney as he takes a sip of his own drink. It’s not the most interesting topic admittedly, but other than their careers the only thing they’ve ever had in common was a mutual hatred for Chip. Now that she’s lost that energy (and admittedly, he’s slowly starting too too) it leaves very little for them to actually talk about. // @britbritsworld​

Britney hadn’t spoken to Skip in a while. Ever since things with Chip started getting good again she had been trying to keep things that way. Skip had publicly been getting along with Chip but Britney wasn’t sure if it was all for good press or not. She supposed this was the best way to figure that out, but at the same time she really wasn’t sure if getting involved with Skip was smart in any way. At his question she raised an eyebrow. “I can’t really talk about it,” she said matter-of-fact. “New single soon though. I mean, I got a lot of stuff coming out soon. It’s all just a matter of when.” She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ears. “What about you? Are you doing solo work still or is it all boyband stuff now? That’s an interesting lineup you all have. I didn’t expect to see you involved.”

Wandering through the party with a drink in his hand, Billy spends most of his time mingling through the crowd as he tries to spend time with as many of his friends as possible. “Britney!” he exclaims excitedly the moment she comes into view, thrilled that she managed to find him in the crowd. While trying to identify his friends behind the masks had been giving him a little bit of trouble tonight, there’s no mistaking her the second she came into view. “Wow, really?” Billy beams, looking down at his outfit before looking back up at Britney. Her apparent shock at his outfit doesn’t faze him in the least, all too pleased that she’s giving him a compliment at all. He was rather proud of the outfit he put together, going for something fun and exciting rather than a boring black suit, and he can’t help but feel a small swell of pride in his chest that people are actually taking notice. “But look at you!” Finally taking a good look at the outfit Britney’s wearing, it takes a moment for him to take it all in. “You’re the best dressed here, no question.”

Britney laughed, waving him off even though there was a part of her that agreed with him. She put a lot of work in her appearance even though she was supposed to be a little more lowkey. “You’re too charming, Billy,” she finally says, her laughter subsiding. “Have you been having a good time so far?” She was sure she already knew the answer, but she wanted him to have the chance to tell her about it. She was in a good mood, he was easy to speak with, and she was content with speaking to him a little bit longer. “I really didn’t think the island had it in them to do something this extravagant.”

even though britney was supposed to be discreet she couldn't help but dress to the nines for this ball. she didn't go anywhere without dazzling and she was doing her best to mingle and have fun but all while still showing a bright smile like it was a photo opportunity. she was sure she was going to be spotted and the best she could do was try to stay out of trouble. she wasn't doing a very good job. her first slip was being chip's date. she knew she should have tried better to be around chip without people wondering and staring at them, but she was so tired of doing what she should be doing. so tonight she was with him freely, draped on his arm the way she wanted to be, and she wasn't going to let her mother or anyone stop her from living her life. a drink or two was to be expected at any party, but this time britney had allowed herself to be bold and have two more. by the time she was waltzing around with chip, she was tingling, content in her buzz. she felt the gazes of people as they danced but that was to be expected even if they weren't being recognized as the stars they were. their chemistry showed in almost anything they did, especially when it came to dancing. they were in tune with each other and britney just wanted to pull him close and let this moment last forever. "i could dance with you all night," she whispered into his ear. "i can't believe i get to have you with me again."

britney had to hand it to the island, they really knew how to throw a good party. everything looked so polish and beautiful; it was hard not to get caught up in it all. and the anonymity made things even better. her team couldn’t find her; she had changed her outfit after leaving the house, and now that she was dolled up and at the ball she just wanted to have a good time with chip. things were....looking good and she didn’t want to mess that up. and that meant not being on his shoulder every second the entire night. chip had such a good life on the island and she didn’t want to come on too strong, so she spent a little time mingling on her own. she really couldn’t recognize anyone, which was exciting, but evidentially, she was going to find someone she knew. she just didn’t expect that person to be billy of all people. he cleaned up really well, and if it weren’t for his behavior she would have never noticed. “i shouldn’t be surprised to see you here, and yet....i must say, i am impressed.”

life was full of firsts, and chip skylark finds himself in the precarious situation of standing right in front of the woman who held many of his firsts. britney was his first kiss, his first love – and yet after all this time, looking at her now still felt like the first time he’d ever seen her. the first time he’d ever felt cupid’s bow strike. it was never less thrilling, never ordinary to look at her and see his entire world open up right before his eyes. it was always special. but he can’t help but think it’s especially precious now after all this time apart. he’d watched the very fabric of his universe fall apart when she left, and now he finds himself presented with an opportunity to try to mend what had been broken. an opportunity to weave together the frayed threads and rework old stitch work, and even if it was hard he wouldn’t pass up that kind of opportunity. 

“i’m happy to see you too,” his words come out softer than he ever intends to, but around britney it’s hard to escape. to the world he’s chip skylark, confident and cool, perfect and charming. but with britney he’s an actual person, not just a figure under the glare of flashing lights. and who chip was at his core was a quiet boy filled with nervous ticks and offering the softest smiles. “it might sound kind of ridiculous but i missed you.” in honesty it sucked not being able to spend time with britney during the festival. and even then, sucked seemed like a gross oversimplification. he’d spent the bulk of his night hanging with the boys and fawn, and stopping to chat with fans who recognized him. and he’s having a decent enough time, but the entire time he could only think of her – what she was doing, who she was with, if she missed him as much as he missed her. “i missed you a lot, actually.” he chuckles, bringing her hand to his lips so he can kiss her knuckles. 

even when they were sneaking around, chip was nothing but a gentleman to her. his lips on her knuckles had her feeling like a teenager again. maybe if she had been more cautious when they were teens she could have made things work better. could have kept her mother from whispering harsh words into her ear, spinning stories about chip and what he did when they weren’t together. maybe if she had been smarter.....either way, they were here now and they were together and britney wasn’t trading that for anything. she would stay in this ice palace forever if chip asked her to at this point. 

“i missed you more than you could ever know,” she said earnestly, smiling at him as if she never smiled at anyone else. “are you having fun at the festival? did you compete in the gingerbread contest? there were so many people it was hard to see who was there..” she felt like she was asking a million questions, but she wanted to know about his day. she wanted to know everything. “it’s really cold in here,” she said with a little laugh, feeling silly for even saying that aloud. “i don’t have much to report since the last time i saw you, if i’m being honest with myself.”

Britney had no intention of bringing Flynn to her penthouse of all things, but when the snow started falling at an abnormal rate she knew she had to get out of there and he didn’t look like he knew where to be. So there they were. Two people who never really talked except to hook-up, trapped in penthouse with no power. Totally cool, totally fine. “I...Any reception yet?” Britney asked awkwardly, bringing blankets out to the living room where they were setting up shelter. She figured it was best to stay as far from the bedroom as possible and the more she could distract herself from the cringe, the better. But the entire situation was cringe since Britney was still very determined to end their arrangement. But she also didn’t want to make him more uncomfortable. A bad time either way. She checked her phone again, settling into her couch as she frowned at it. At least her mother wasn’t there. And no one was able to track her or watch her. For once she was unguarded and free...ish. “Feel free to take as many blankets as you want.”

from the moment he found out about britney being on the island, he'd been concerned about chip and what effect her presence would have on him. he'd been there for him through the break up and omari would never be able to get those drunken phone calls out of his head. the last thing he wanted was to see him go through that again even though he'd be there to pick up the pieces if it came to that. the moment he saw britney alone he goes up to her. britney should have seen this coming. omari was chip’s close friend first and foremost and he was friendly with her, but not if she hurt chip. which she is still learning she did....more than she thought she had. in her defense, she thought he cheated. but since that was most likely not it...she deserved this talk. so she nodded her head at him, pointing to a place that didn’t have a lot of people. “we can talk on the bench over there.”

he didn’t need any more complications. there’s a small voice in the back of his mind, one that sounds suspiciously like omari’s, telling him to leave all of this behind. leave britney behind. but chip couldn’t do that even if he wanted to. it was impossible to let her go, six years of bliss coming to a halt abruptly and without resolution. how could he ever let her go? and maybe inviting her to his thanksgiving party was his first mistake. maybe he shouldn’t have gone out of his way to include her, but he knew how lonely the holidays could be for her, knew it was probably worse here. it was hard on him, hard on skip too — so how could he leave britney to combat a new setting with unfamiliar faces all on her own? it just wasn’t who he was, it wasn’t the way he treats people. but now he’s tangled in the webs of his love life, heart being tugged in different directions by different people. so maybe he should have left her alone on the holidays because he really didn’t need this.

and yet, he finds his feet carrying him to their planned meeting spot anyways. his friends hardly gave him any questions about where he was going when he said he’d be back, everyone wrapped up in their own festival shenanigans. pushing open the door that leads to the back of the ice palace, chip glances over his shoulder once more to make sure no one was paying him any mind — and they, for once, weren’t. it felt kind of ridiculous to have to hide, time spent together only manageable away from the public eye and in the comfort of the dark. it felt unfair to hide away when all he wanted was to love her out loud like he always has. but it’s all they could do to keep the media away, to be together without conflict. so he’d take it. coming up towards one of the doors labeled ‘do not enter’ chip pushes it open without a second thought about it. meeting in a back room is hardly his idea of romance, but he sees her waiting with her back to the door and he can’t stop the little way his heart thuds in his chest. like just being here with her is grounds for it to up and run away from him. he closes the door behind him, making sure to lock it before coming up behind her. “hey, sorry i’m late.” he apologies, wrapping his arms around her and pressing a soft kiss to her cheek. “the wine and design station ran a little longer than i thought.” to be fair, sip and paint with omari and Phil sounded like a bad idea to begin with but chip was nothing but a walking bad idea. this meet up is proof. “how’s your night going? you having fun?” he comes around so that he’s facing her, keeping her hand in his as he looks at her. @britbritsworld

britney had no idea what she was doing. after spending thanksgiving with chip and his friends she had been giddy as if she had her own little secret. she did, in some ways, but at the same time she was still so confused by everything. seeing luna, seeing chip; it brought up so many old memories and she got really caught up in her feelings and before she had a grip on anything she was meeting up with him in secret. normally she tells her mother everything but ever since her first meeting with chip on the island she has been having doubts in her mother’s story. why would chip cheat on her? the more she thought about it, the dumber it sounded. her mother always spun a convincing story so britney thought it was best to just keep her suspicions to herself. she deactivated her anti chip twitter for the time being and tried to just see things from her own eyes for once.

she had the gingerbread contest and hung around a few fans before she slipped away to their meeting spot. she had been using a burner phone to keep in contact with chip without anyone on her team seeing it. besides, she was able to say anything to chip this way. for the first time in the last few years she could be a girl in love just trying to see her romeo again. she had made her way into the ice palace earlier than planned and that was okay. she knew chip had other things to do as well. so she took the extra minutes to smooth out her hair and try to settle the butterflies in her stomach. she was so nervous and so ready for him to change his mind that when he did show up she had almost fallen on her own feet when he had come up behind her. he was so warm and gentle and britney felt herself melting into his embrace. when he had pulled away she pouted, but his hand was warm enough for that to be enough for now. looking into his eyes like this had her heart beating faster and faster. she almost forgot how to speak, but she managed to make the words come out after a moment of just staring and taking him in. her chip. “it’s okay,” she said to him being late. honestly, it was more than okay because she would have made a fool of herself more if he had been there first. “and yeah, i’m having a lot of fun. but...i feel like my night is just starting now. i’m really happy to see you, chip.”

britney thought this little gingerbread contest was a cute way to get to know the other members of the island better and since she didn’t have too many friends and more fans, she figured this was a good chance to gain more friends. or even some fans, her mom agreed it was good press to do it. so there she was, waiting for her partner sort of nervous because she hadn’t made a gingerbread house in a good while and she was sure her partner wanted to win more than she did. when she was sur e she spotted her partner she sat up straight, flashed one of her professional smiles, and extended a hand. “britney-britney, but please call me britney,” she said, hoping it sounded light-hearted. “And you’re pascal, right?”
