I created my first blog ‘My Shopping Cart’ for the University of Canberra’s unit ‘Networked Media Production’. It is a blog mostly about online shopping and what clothing I would buy. I share my favorite brands and tips on online shopping. I chose to name it ‘My Shopping Cart’ because most of my posts are what clothing items have been in my shopping cart that I’ve bought online. Online shopping is my addiction and I know I’m not the only one.

  I first began my blog with my ‘about me page’. I had no idea what to write but I slowly progressed as my blog got more developed. We used Adobe Dreamweaver to create our pages and it made it a lot easier since I was new to html. I also used the site ‘code pen’ when I didn’t have my laptop with the dreamweaver program. I wanted my about me page to be relatively simple and very easy to read with minimum writing because no one wants to read a novel of my life story. I wrote a little bit about me, what my blog is about and a some of links such as posts I’ve liked, a list of my favorite online stores and a back to blog link. Examples:

   I originally had an image that was a from one of my favorite online stores ‘look book’. I later added an instagram widget which showed a slide show of my instagram images and I decided it was best a replacement for the image to keep it simple. The slide show looks great and if you click on the link ‘My Instagram’ it takes you straight to my instagram profile on the web.

  I’m extremely girly and my blog is for young women so my background had to be pink and to do so and my other background features I simple used this code:

  I used simple heading and paragraph tags but added some breaks (<br>) to make it look cleaner and more edited. Eg:

  Week two we covered CSS and customisation. Lucky enough for me I looked in to customized tumblr themes and I found the perfect one for my blog it came with links and a simple option to upload a side bar image and back ground image. I also loved it because it came with infinite scroll. Examples:

  For my background image I chose a simple pretty feminine black background because I wanted a picture but I didn’t want it to over power my blog posts. I loved how the swirls were around the edges and not in the centre where my posts are.

Content/Audience For my posts I included many link in most of my posts they mostley contained websites to the items I was showing. I also used the tumblr features by liking and reblogging images from s.me online stores personal tumblr eg. Sabo Skirt.

For my images I mostly liked to keep them square because it looked a lot better having the two columns. I made a lot of my photos using iPhone apps such as ‘frametastic’ to show multiple clothing items together. I also used the iPhone Tumblr app a lot to post on my blog.

I used social media in my blog linking twitter and instagram using the links that came with the theme. I also linked my sisters ice cream shop website, my about me page and the link to my blog if a viewer was ever looking at a single post.

I submitted my blog to google hoping it would gain me followers as well as tagging each of my posts accordingly such as #fashion #onlineshopping

I used creative commons to license my blog using this code:

I used google analytics to watch my audience grow and I added a hit counter in my side bar to track the views on my blog. After choosing a colour theme I was given this code to add to my blog:

Production Project Rationale - Infographic

When deciding what to do for my production project I immediately jumped to data visualisation. Back in high school data was my favorite topic in math it was probably because I got to make charts and colour them in pretty colours and because it was more hands on and practical. I’m doing a bachelor in Graphic design so and infographic was defiantly the way to go for me. I researched a lot of different infographics to get ideas and it made me all the more interested in them. I was first going to do it on my music in iTunes but I thought it would be pretty common and my music collection is probably just embarrassing. I was then going to try and make one using my facebook data. I tried to find a website that could collect all my data for me and I was in luck when I found the ‘intel’ website ‘What About Me’. It was really well done but it turns out I’m not very interesting when it comes to facebook. What I am interesting in (if I may say so myself) is Instagram.

I used two iPhone apps: ‘My Followers’ and ‘Followers +’ to learn some data on my instagram.

The types of data I gathered and used for my infograph were:

Users not following back

Users I don’t follow back

My photos

My likes in total

My average likes per photo

My acclaim value

Fame value

Ghost Followers (Followers that don’t  use/interact on instgram)

Average photos per week

Top likers

I also gathered information my self on what users I interact with most, month.

I had never created an infographic before and I had no idea where to begin so I looked into websites that made infographic. I then came across infogr.am. This enabled me to select a theme and being displaying my data as simple as that. When selecting the theme I chose the one with the colours similar to the instagram icon and theme. My chosen theme really represents instagram well. Although I had enough data I had no idea how to represent it or how to turn it into graphs etc. but one step at a time I figured it out and this is what I did

I started with the title and then using a quote box I showed my user name and what I had in my information box.

I wrote down some simple facts about my instagram that couldn’t exactly be put into a chart or graph. Eg. followers, total likes, fame value and so on.

I then added my figures to create a chart on how many followers I’ve gained over the past 3 months.

I then inserted data to create a donut chart on followers I'm not following back, users not following me back and mutual followers.

I used a tree map to display my top likers, unfortunately it didn’t display a heading so I inserted and extra figure called ‘My Top Likers’.

Finally I created a word cloud to display the profiles I most like and I too created a heading out of this.

My infograph was created using the site ‘infogr.am’ but all of the work and data put in was my own.
