Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

This is a modern art museum in Amsterdam.

Lots of efforts have been made to make this museum more diverse and equitable in the glass building and the unbelievable undertaking was documented in a film.

We watched the movie in 2022 when it just came out in NYC. They had zero piece by any artists of color (whatever that means) by then. However, most museum workers were women over there.

They hired a new museum director and he was given the strict timeline by which the agenda *must* be realized or his salary will be cut by 25% after 6 months and 50% by 12 months, etc (something like that lol please watch the film for accuracy).

What was amazing about this film was that, though, they were wildly removing many paintings by renowned male artists and installing new paintings by women and non white (mostly African) artists, one by one.

And do you know what? There were many wonderful pieces that appeared during the story with specific names, but we have never seen those pieces or never heard of these names (we thought we knew about contemporary art), but THEY LOOKED GREAT in the screen!!!!!

So we have been very curious about this institution that exist in Amsterdam...it's been four years and finally the time came.

We visited them to check on the progress.

Venice Dance Biennale

Biennale office gave me a ticket to the 2026 Venice Dance Biennale (thank you😍💕✨), so I decided to attend the sold out dance program the night before Amsterdam.

It's a program with this year’s Golden Lion Choreographer that came with a public conversation. Photos were not allowed during the dance performance (well...I know). They were talking about Black Dance Theater, etc.

There is an art gallery at Goldsmiths, University of London. They have a pretty good show up right now with super star American artists in it.

Do you remember that we were talking about Frieze taking over American art?

They hosted the Armory Show in September 2025 and now here again in NYC for Frieze art fair in 2026!!!

I can’t believe it, but oh well…

Let’s see our highlights below:

Anicka Yi had a kinetic sculpture at this year's Frieze (makes sense considering that she previously did the Tate Moden commission)...

A wide range of abstract art pieces we found at the fair...

There was this section of the VIP lounge that was generously converted into a diamond-themed film...where black models were also promoting the installation work outside, which was more like the vendor booth than the art fair (?) note: we obviuously stayed until the very last to take this shot without anyone in it.

We caught the model on the fair floor who was being featured by the new york magazine special frieze edition...

Lots of model types were present at Frieze NYC...

Sunny Calder Gardens visit - vibrant flowers along path to entrance.. Nice easy see: two floors, a mezz, outdoor area, and a dim video room.. Glad no museum fatigue because next is a long stroll up Ben Franklin Parkway to Philly art museum.. Julia Mehretu one-room exhibit, then a 'Nation of Artists' exhibit -- another walk - past Rodin Museum - to Barnes.. two floors of ol' masters - and outside a serene sheen of aqua over round stones.. long walk to Suburban Station to catch El to 30th St.. sun blocked by clouds, it had rained, train to Trenton glides past damp rocks, creeks, trees..
