taken by my Uncle John on my Great Grandma Dye’s homestead in Hartwood, VA. this was his first time using a rangefinder. after all the times I had positioned him in front of the very same lens, he asked if he could take my picture. this day was very special. we walked the whole 110 acres. not saying much to one another, just enjoying the tall grass. the cows were gone, but we passed their favorite napping spot - underneath the grouping of trees on the east end of the pasture. i often try to picture my grandmother, her siblings, and her mother i never had the chance to know, when walking here. this day i was lucky enough to hear them picking blackberries in the afternoon.
