All Nash had been after was an escape. There was too much tension, too much temptation at home. Elysium would offer the latter in spades but of a very different type. The kind he could indulge in without scruples. So he donned the Marine blues and the medals that sent a small pang of regret through his heart as he thumbed them while squaring the jacket on his shoulders. He missed it. Missed the desert and the heat and the camaraderie. He still felt like a fish out of water in civilian lifee. It was too slow-paced, especially at his job down at the recruitment center. Desk jockey was not what Major Nashville Sterling wanted for his life. All the more reason to find a beautiful distraction tonight. Unfortunately, one found him first, slinging her flute of champagne all over his uniform. He recovered well enough, chuckling and brushing the wetness from his tunic which repelled it well. “No harm done,” he assured her. “There’s a lot to see, isn’t there? It assaults the senses. Besides, now you’ve made me self-conscious enough that i won’t be the one spilling a drink on someone else so maybe I’m in your debt.”
Embaressment flooded through Blakely like crazy. How did she manage to spill champagne over a military uniform of all things and all people. “Are you sure sir? Can I get you some serviettes or something to help clean up? Her words flew out of her mouth, almost babbling as she tried to make it right. Breathe Blakely, breathe. “Um yeah... there is an awful lot here,” she admitted; although this man had no idea just how overwhelming this all was for her. “No no no, you are in no way in my debt at all sir. If anything I owe you something to make up for the mess I’ve caused.”
Elysium was insane. It was so decadent and unlike anything the nineteen year old had ever seen. And the outfits people were wearing were just as mind-blowing. Some of the dresses the women had on would be worth more than everything she owned. Blakely felt as if she stuck out like a sore thumb in her cheap ass thrift store outfit; which was probably cheaper than a single shoe any of these people had. In her hand as she wandered in awe was a glass of champagne she’d been given by a server but not dared to touch to her lips. Unfortunately in her distracted state, Blakely wasn’t completely watching where she was going. Skirting round a group of people she collided head on into a military uniform, spilling the untouched champagne all over it. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” she exploded, absolutely mortified at the situation.
