Background: When Emmaline was born, the end of the Fae world as it is now began. There’s more than one Apocalypse, and though this one is smaller scale than a lot of the other ones, it’s just as important to the Gale family, and all of Faekind. Emmaline is the Herald (Herald of the End is her official title), the opposite of the Warrior of the Deep, and bringer of chaos. Her voice has the power to control, and more importantly, destroy. Music and sound is her weapon, and ever since she was little, she’s wanted nothing to do with it.
Her father happened to be very physically, mentally, and even sexually abusive, and when he left her at a bus stop in the dead of winter when she was twelve, that was the last straw. Em knew that she had to find a trickster, a bringer of unconventional justice, since her deaf mother wasn’t going to do a thing to help her. It wasn’t hard, she could smell a trickster on the prowl the whole week. The trickster took her home, and told her to go to her room and shut her eyes. In the morning, her father was dead, and her mother was telling her to pack her things. Her mother was pregnant, and with the death of her father, the fae community wasn’t going to be as polite to the Herald without the protection of the Gale family. They moved to America, a place of chance, and more importantly, a place with less traditional fae, who didn’t know about the Herald’s birthright.
Her sister was born several months afterwards, and Emmaline had found her purpose. There wasn’t any way that the Apocalypse would happen, not if it would hurt little Jan. She’d protect her little sister with her life.
The world had other plans for the two sisters. Two years later, a zombie outbreak happened in the state of South Carolina, an outbreak which killed their mother and left Em and Jan motherless. In their universe, multiple Apocalypses were happening, and this was one that had nothing to do with any religion or species. This was one orchestrated by some American witches with too much time on their hands. Unfortunately for both the witches, and Em and Jan, there was a fourth, unknown Apocalypse, sleeping in the basement of the old building that dozens of people were held up in. When the building caught fire, Em and a few other people, including Delphinius, who, unbeknownst to Em, was the Warrior of the Deep that she was made to fight, were tasked to evacuate the lower floors. Em opened the seals to the ancient beasts, and another Apocalypse, one faster than any of the others, began to come to it’s end. Em grabbed her sister’s hand and shut her eyes.
However, there was a weakness in between the realities at that exact spot. Em, alongside her sister, Delphinius, and a handful of other supernaturals, slipped through the hole made by the awakening of the ancient beasts, and found themselves in a whole new world. Julianne found them not soon after, the large break in the realities immediately coming to her attention. With the help of her contacts, Julianne set up a place for the refugees. In this world, however, Fae were few and far between, the Faelings like bridges between the Fae and the rest of humankind. A forest in need drew the two sisters to it, and Julianne had no choice but to set up a small apartment nearby.
Currently, Emmaline has graduated high school and spends her days with her sister, running through the forest nearby, teaching her sister magic however she is able and how to keep the magic of the forest stable. She’s found herself not only one of the sole contacts between the vast amount of Fae in the area and humans, but also a diplomat between her people and the denizens of Heaven and Hell. She’s not got much left to lose, so she’s happy to take the risk.
