Why was he like this? Why did he let her get under his skin? Why did he like it so much? Ben was an idiot despite how smart he actually was. Elena Bryne was an itch he couldn’t scratch. She was annoying, ever constant, and impossible to ignore. And he indulged her, tried to return the favor and annoy her as much as she annoyed him. And it just made things worse. He really liked her, he really did. Hence why he was chasing her now through the trees to get his book back that she stole. Stupid camping forcing them near each other more than usual. Catching up, he grabbed her by the waist and pushed her against a tree gently.  “You really think you could run from me?” An amused grin formed despite everything.

Elena’s mind was in a constant state of alertness whenever it came to Benjamin. She knew better than to let anyone close, her past experiences telling her it was for the best - for her safety. But, Benjamin was different. Despite his constant need to annoy her, challenge her to no end, she found herself intrigued and wanting to know more. She could feel her walls crumbling when around him which terrified her yet, she couldn’t stay away. You would think with the open space they’d be able to stay further away from each other but, no. Camping was specifically designed to force the royals to interact and be mear each other - cutting off all other forms of entertainment. And being that the prince was one of the few she could actually bare to be around, she found herself gravtiating towards him. And it was instances like this that sparked excitement and worry within her.

Her legs continued to carry her through the woods, a faint smile on her lips. It was childish, simply running off with his book. But, it’d been the first time in a while she had dropped her cold exterior and it felt somewhat nice. She could hear the footsteps following behind her and before she knew it, she was being pressed against a tree. “ I figured I had a chance,” the Irish femme mused, hues locking on his face as she attempted to keep the smile from her face, “Especially when you stumbled back there. Thought we were going to have to call a rescue team.”

Benjamin x Elena — Starter

“Okay, so..” the male began speaking after several minutes of unending silence desperate to filled the void. Ben and Elena had slowly been becoming more... amicable and less volatile together. They still teased and tormented each other of course, that’s just how they were, but they were spending more time together. Willingly. “I’m thinking we should go out. I’m getting sick and tired being all cooped up indoors. It’s snowing right? Let’s make snowmen or, or snow angels! Yeah, something like that. Or we can sneak into town and see if they have an ice rink set up. You in?”

The amount of time the two had been willing spending together had come as much of a surpise to her than anyone else. Slowly breaking down each other’s wall whislt still mainting their usual snarky and taunting nature with each other. Her soft brown hues flickering towards him once his voice filled the silence. The snow had kept them inside for some time and she had to agree, it was a bore. “I swear it sounds like you’re asking me on a date, Benji.” Teasing tone clear in her words, combined with the nickname she knew he wasn’t entirely fond of, as she idly tilted her head before standing from her spot on the couch. “Being in the snow doesn’t sound all that bad and being cooped up has been annoying. I’m in.”

Sometimes he really couldn’t believe how much he was growing to trust Elena. He didn’t trust anyone, not really. And yet the one person he seemed to have the most antagonistic relationship with was becoming the person her liked the most. And honestly? He really didn’t want to think about that because it just gave him a headache when he did. Going with the flow was the better option in his book. “And if it was?” Her comment sounded like a challenge, a tease he couldn’t help but return. He wasn’t even going to consider the fact that he wasn’t sure how he wanted her to answer. Did he want it to be a date? Or did he not? “Great, lets go then. And then hot chocolate after.” He did love chocolate.

It was all so confusing to her but, she couldn’t bring herself to try and figure it out. Sure, there were moments where he frustrated and irritated her beyond belief. But, at the same time, she found herself enjoying his company from time to time. And, dare she even say, she liked him. His words sparked curiosity within her; did he want it to be a date? “You wouldn’t survive a date with me.” She matched his teasing tone, a faint smirk etching onto her features as she chose to focus on taunting instead. “Hot chocolate sounds so good. Let’s go.”

There was always something about Elena that drew him to her. Something he didn’t understand and honestly didn’t want to understand. As maddening as she was, he couldn’t stay away. Never have. And again, didn’t want to. “No? What do you want to bet I could?” He responded with the first thing that came to mind. Did he want it to be a date? He didn’t know, but he couldn’t back down from the prospect of a challenge. And he did like her, he just wasn’t sure if it was as a friend or more. “After you, princess.”

Any other person, she wouldn’t have allowed them the chance to get as close as Benjamin had. It was what she was known for; keeping everyone at arms length. But, Benjamin, he had somehow eased his way into her life and surprisingly, she found she wasn’t entirely against it. Maybe it was due to some of their similarities or how he managed to keep her on her toes, challenge her. Regardless, she found herself enjoying his company and seeking it. “Absolutely not. But, if you think you’re up for the challenge, I’m game. I’ll have you know though, I don’t lose.” A playful smirk remaining on her lips as she faced him. A part of her looking forward to whether he would accept her challenge. Did she want him to? A date with Benjamin intriguing her. “That word is banned for today.” She commented before tugging her jacket on.

Her personality completely changed. She started by shutting everyone out, including her sister. She became irritable, cold and downright bitchy. Deep down Elena wanted ensure no one would ever be able to hurt her again, so she pushed them all away. She became jealous of her sister’s innocence and started to take everything out on her. She was even extremely friendly as a child and loving as she grew up. Starting out, her and her sister were very friendly with each other, they were never the best of friends, though, but they were friendly enough for the sake of the kingdom. Over time the girls quickly let their differences go and became friends for real, there was no pretending and they were close. Things soon started to change after Elena was sexually assaulted by a King, the King who later turned out to be the father of Ellie’s betrothed. Elena never imagined that he would do that to her, he was always friendly towards her but she just assumed that was because their two kingdoms would be coming together. She was misled by his actions and wished she had realised what his true intentions were at the start. After the assault, Elena’s bubbly personality completely changed. She wasn’t the same girl any more, she became irritable, bitchy, and colder towards everyone around her. She decided to ice everyone out, so she’d never be hurt again by anyone. She was too scared to let anyone close in fear of the same things happening to her. She lost a lot of people, but she tried not to let it effect her. The easiest way to not get her was to let no one love her. She started to bully her sister, jealous of the innocent demeanour she managed to keep while she was stuck dying on the inside. No one realised what had happened as Elena refused to talk about the assault. She feared no one would believe her or they would assume she was asking for it. She was only a teenager, and he took advantage of her but Elena’s mind played tricks on her and wouldn’t allow her to see that she was the victim. Besides, if she told anyone then she would have to relive it and all she wanted to do was forget. As she got older, her stress relief, her unhealthy stress relief started. She got depressed, not that she’d ever let anyone know, instead she just pretended as if she was still the Queen bee and the perfect royal to be. For a while, it was believable, no one questioned it at all. That was until her parents caught her self-harming once and since she hadn’t told them what was wrong, they decided she might not be able to handle the stress of being Queen. They made it seem as if her sister would take over.
