‘I wish I could just make a wish and become a better person.’ He had over heard a conversation about wishes earlier that day and that had been one of the answers he heard. He had been thinking about it since, wondering what’s he, himself, would wish for if he could. There were the obvious things like a better family or his doctorate or anything along those lines, but would they were pointless. He was used to his family and he was going to get his doctorate even though he had a few years to go. Finding Blake, Ben sighed and debated it for a few seconds. “What would you wish for if you could with the guarantee it’d come true?”

Benjamin had gone home to visit his family for the weekend. His father had demanded it, because god knows Ben would never do so willingly. He hated that place, he feared his father, and as terrible as it sounded cared very little for most of his siblings, particularly the older ones. The little hospitalwimf was quiet that day, nothing to deal with really and the visit hung over his head like a dark cloud. “Sometimes I realize one day I could die, I could just disappear and the world would be none the wiser. there’d be no one to miss me and that terrifies me more than death itself.” He was thinking aloud to himself in order to fill the silence, as far as he knew he was alone. Everyone else was off doing other things in the wing.

Why was he like this? Why did he let her get under his skin? Why did he like it so much? Ben was an idiot despite how smart he actually was. Elena Bryne was an itch he couldn’t scratch. She was annoying, ever constant, and impossible to ignore. And he indulged her, tried to return the favor and annoy her as much as she annoyed him. And it just made things worse. He really liked her, he really did. Hence why he was chasing her now through the trees to get his book back that she stole. Stupid camping forcing them near each other more than usual. Catching up, he grabbed her by the waist and pushed her against a tree gently.  “You really think you could run from me?” An amused grin formed despite everything.

It was the first night of the camping trip and Ben was already done. He wanted to be back at the Estate, working on his school work, away from all the bugs. He hated bugs. It was the end of March, the very beginning of spring, and the nights still got cold. But he’d much rather the cold than be trapped inside a tent with two roommates. Hence why he was outside wandering the edge of the camp causing the guards to watch him carefully, like he might try and escape. Yeah right, he liked the Estate, it was better than being in Belgium that’s for sure. A flash of red caught his eye and a familiar red head made his lips twitch. Ana had been his friend for awhile, years really considering they were apart of the Pilot Program together. And they shared similar aspersions when it came to becoming doctors. “I wish I was back home right about now.” He commented as he approached her from behind, looking down at her from where she sat. “How’s the baby?”

“Okay, so..” the male began speaking after several minutes of unending silence desperate to filled the void. Ben and Elena had slowly been becoming more... amicable and less volatile together. They still teased and tormented each other of course, that’s just how they were, but they were spending more time together. Willingly. “I’m thinking we should go out. I’m getting sick and tired being all cooped up indoors. It’s snowing right? Let’s make snowmen or, or snow angels! Yeah, something like that. Or we can sneak into town and see if they have an ice rink set up. You in?”

The amount of time the two had been willing spending together had come as much of a surpise to her than anyone else. Slowly breaking down each other’s wall whislt still mainting their usual snarky and taunting nature with each other. Her soft brown hues flickering towards him once his voice filled the silence. The snow had kept them inside for some time and she had to agree, it was a bore. “I swear it sounds like you’re asking me on a date, Benji.” Teasing tone clear in her words, combined with the nickname she knew he wasn’t entirely fond of, as she idly tilted her head before standing from her spot on the couch. “Being in the snow doesn’t sound all that bad and being cooped up has been annoying. I’m in.”

Sometimes he really couldn’t believe how much he was growing to trust Elena. He didn’t trust anyone, not really. And yet the one person he seemed to have the most antagonistic relationship with was becoming the person her liked the most. And honestly? He really didn’t want to think about that because it just gave him a headache when he did. Going with the flow was the better option in his book. “And if it was?” Her comment sounded like a challenge, a tease he couldn’t help but return. He wasn’t even going to consider the fact that he wasn’t sure how he wanted her to answer. Did he want it to be a date? Or did he not? “Great, lets go then. And then hot chocolate after.” He did love chocolate.

It was all so confusing to her but, she couldn’t bring herself to try and figure it out. Sure, there were moments where he frustrated and irritated her beyond belief. But, at the same time, she found herself enjoying his company from time to time. And, dare she even say, she liked him. His words sparked curiosity within her; did he want it to be a date? “You wouldn’t survive a date with me.” She matched his teasing tone, a faint smirk etching onto her features as she chose to focus on taunting instead. “Hot chocolate sounds so good. Let’s go.”

There was always something about Elena that drew him to her. Something he didn’t understand and honestly didn’t want to understand. As maddening as she was, he couldn’t stay away. Never have. And again, didn’t want to. “No? What do you want to bet I could?” He responded with the first thing that came to mind. Did he want it to be a date? He didn’t know, but he couldn’t back down from the prospect of a challenge. And he did like her, he just wasn’t sure if it was as a friend or more. “After you, princess.”

In retrospect maybe a midnight swim out in the lake hadn’t been the best of ideas, but sleep had been evasive and water was a calming influence. He had considered the pool, he really had, but the idea of getting caught wasn’t exactly inviting. The last thing he needed was a call from his father about what kind of disappointment he was. Ben had enough on his mind with classes and testing without adding the man he loathed into the picture. The cold was more windy than anything, making the male shiver as he wrapped himself in a towel as he sat at the edge of the water, water drops dripping from his damp curls. He was deep in thought when a voice cut through making him look up startled. “What?” The single worded question came out half snappish, half confused.

Call it paranoia, but Callie felt like she was being watched all the time. Sure, she doubted her parents were that concerned with her opening her mouth. But she knew she was here under the strict orders to stay quiet about what she knew of them. Honestly, she had been hoping there was a chance she’d find a way to get comfortable as a royal. Maybe she’d finally feel like she belonged. Paranoid or not it felt like there were eyes on her all the time. So to get away for a little she wandered out to the lake. Maybe she’d get in, maybe not. “Someone’s cranky,” she commented, raising an eyebrow.

Benjamin had long since learned the art of sarcasm and cold indifference. An act of self preservation and a mask that kept his inner insecurities secret. Trust wasn’t an easy thing for the male, but his desire to help and to do good would always shine through in one way or another. His mind was often a mess, chaotic as he tried to gather his thoughts, filled with knowledge and demons voicing his fears. He had little time for himself to try and better himself, his mental state. The rare moments he got he cherished and often got lost in thought easily, tuning the outside world completely out. “It’s late, it’s cold, and I’m wet. My own self doing but I still have the right to be cranky. If it didn’t make me a hypocrite I’d ask why you’re out so late, but a hypocrite is one of the few things I am not. Instead I’ll ask, who are you?”

Calliope honestly was kind of glad to be away from the hustle and bustle of the estate. Sometimes it was rather nice being there. But other times she felt very out of control. She hated the feeling. The way she got overwhelmed so easily. Made her feel weak. This was nice though, quiet, calm almost. It wasn’t exactly a cure all pill for the storm inside, but at least she could have a moment to think. “Well perhaps if you don’t seek cold dampness don’t go for a swim on a cold night?” She suggested, a half smirk on her face as she looked over at him. “Calliope, Princess of Germany,” there was an underlying tone of mockery. But it wasn’t directed at him. More so her parents and the system of royalty itself.

“Helps me think.” He commented dryly at her remark, knowing it’s truth despite his lack of care. Maybe it was the years of abuse, but his mind was always the quietest when he felt discomfort. At least this way the worst he was risking was a cold, not a broken bone or blood loss. His lips twitched at the mocking tone she used when stating her name and country. It was the same distaste he felt when he said his. “Benjamin, Prince Of Belgium, aspiring doctor. Pleasure.” Amusement subtly danced across his features. “Should I add you to the “I hate my parents and all this royal bullshit” club now or later?”

His parents were definitely a big fan of having several heirs. He was smack in the middle of several sisters and brothers. His father was the reigning King of Belgium, and his mother was the princess of another country. He wanted all the power to stay in his family which is why he had so many children. His parents barely had time for him, so he was mostly left to his own devices, looking out for himself, some of his younger siblings and also trying to become the perfect royal. Grappling for the throne like the rest of most of his older siblings did. While his father held weight on who would be chosen, he knew if he won the hearts of the people, he could become King and overcome his neglecting family. His father was a bad King, a horrible father and an abusive man. Everyone seemed to know it too. There was tabloid after tabloid sent out of his siblings and his mother with injuries. Some suggested his father had been the person who’d caused them, but most of those stories were quickly snuffed out. The worse thing that had happened was when he was twenty. He was discussing something with his mother. Something about a marriage proposal and just like that his father busted in. He started beating Benjamin and his mother just watched. He was beaten to the point of near death, and he was hospitalized for months. When he finally got out, he decided that was it. He couldn’t deal with it anymore. Before he’d stayed for his little siblings, but he couldn’t manage it. Not when his elder siblings were vultures and his father was a horrible man. So, when word caught his ear of the Royal Pains pilot program, he applied. He wasn’t exactly known to be wild like many other royals, but he had enough scandal that they accepted him and hoped to “rehabilitate” him into royal life. He quite took to it there, enjoying it even. Though anything was better than his home. Being sent back when it shut down was horrid, and he could tell right away that nothing had changed at home. He avoided his family enough to prevent any other instances, and quickly went running back when it reopened. Benjamin has the awful habit of pretending to be cocky so the insecurities his father had instilled were not apparent. He doesn’t like the idea of abandoning others and has a very soft kind-hearted side that he hates showing. Benjamin is very sweet, but he tries not to show that side. He aspires to be a doctor when he is older. Benjamin came to desire a woman named Elena at the academy. She didn’t fall for his cocky side and instantly called it out on him, which attracted and excited him in a few ways. She was a challenge and a mystery.
