Semper/Semp | queer | he/him, ey/em, it/its | this is my kotlc sideblog | unironic stan of Bronte | watch out for my rambling | my main is semperaeternumque so I'll follow back from there | more info in my pinned post
Hey yall! So, I've been meaning to put this together for a while, but never got around to it- anyways, I just want a post with important links, tagging info, etc. all in one place.
Starting off simple:
You can call me Gold, or Semper/Semp. I use he/him, ey/em, and it/its pronouns with no particular preference for one over the other. I'm queer and trans, and I'm not going to get into the specifics more than that because this post would be way too long if I did. I'm also a certified white boy going.
My other blogs are semperaeternumque, which I follow from, and lore-of-the-lost-cities, which I really need to post on more.
More under the cut! (Tagging info, who I Will block, pyren bros au links.)
Do Not Follow If You Are...:
An exclusionist of any sort
A TERF/transphobe
Racist or ableist
Going to be a jerk to me about fictional characters I like
I cannot, of course, prevent you from following to start with, but if I find out you're any of the above, the block button is going to be my friend.
My tagging system:
I tag characters who are majorly featured in art and fic that I post or reblog.
I tag for common triggers with '[x] cw'. Triggers I tag for include: suicide, death, self harm, alcohol, blood, and gore. Feel free to ask me to tag additional triggers.
I tag swearing and nsfw content with 'swearing cw', and 'nsft', 'suggestive', and 'kids don't look', respectively. Not that there's a lot of nsfw on this blog, mind you.
I tag fandom crit and discourse, and I try to tag character crit with '[x character] critical'.
Non kotlc posts are tagged with 'not fandom'.
My random thoughts are tagged with 'semp rambles'. Any rants/vents are tagged 'semp rants' and 'vent post'.
I will not tag for 'q slur'/any variant of queer as a slur. I respect that it may be triggering to some people, but I am queer, and if the words I use to describe myself bother you, I will have to kindly ask you to unfollow for your health and mine.
Finally, my pyren brothers au posts are tagged with 'pyren brothers au'
Semper, what's the Pyren Brothers AU?
In short, a theory of mine that Bronte and Fintan are brothers. In long- well, it spawned an entire universe in which they are, complete with original characters, backstory, headcanons, worldbuilding, and plenty of me ignoring canon. Links below with more info!
weirdly specific fandom pet peeve: when people trans a character's gender and then give them a name that's a fem/masc version of their canon name/when people create deadnames for canonically trans characters that are just the fem/masc version of their canon name. Like there are definitely some trans people who are named like that (i know one lady who did that kinda thing) but in my experience it's waaaaaaaay more common to have a totally different name, and like, most of the time its like They Would Not Fucking Name Themself That.
#from a writing stand point and characterization i get you#from a FANDOM standpoint i do see the logic and appeal of changing their name to something very similar or not changing it at all#because it allows the character to still be recognized as The Character#unless there's something significant to them that they might name themself after that the fandom would get
(tags via @kale-of-the-forbidden-cities)
Prev this is a fair point. I just tend to be more concerned with writing the trans character in a way that I find faithful than having the fandom recognize them. That being said, I realize my approach to fandom is unusual because I tend to just do whatever the fuck I want with my headcanons in a corner.

Impsy's Keeper hcs about drugs (because what else is fandom for T0T)
@artemisiarising tagging you because I was halfway through making this a reblog before I realized it deserved it's own post. so here we are :)
also @twinklefwinkle
also @bookishandartsy wasn't sure if you wanted me to tag you here but i will just in case :,)
This is kinda insane of me I'm gonna ut a tw in case because I'm unsure if everyone is chill with fictional drug usage so trigger warning for drug usage
ok so in my mind palace brain canon thing alchemists in the lost cities have what is essentially an alchemist society. This is a network for trading materials, reading sources, new information, hard to find elements etc. and is directly connected to the drug trade because guess who makes the drugs? (If you guessed alchemists then ur right)
Some alchemists reject the practice, claiming it’s unethical since consuming straight up star stone is like… really rough on your system. Like it’s essentially a chemical compound and can cause chemical dependency so some argue that it’s kind of a form of malpractice and they don’t like that
anyway it’s done by crushing star stones into a very fine powder, before dissolving that powder with a solvent and hyper concentrating the mixture before dehydrating that solution to form very very very teeny tiny crystals like think pop rocks
some do opt to leave it as a liquid to take as like a quick bedtime thing, but because it's harder to safely dose it isn't typically sold.
anyway, typically traded in bottles containing 100-200 crystals (also referred to as units, pixies, grains, crumbs, and sparks) the average dose is 1-5 under the tongue and you let that dissolve. Obviously if you’re batshit crazy you’d take more. More than 13 in an hour is considered a fatal dose.
the most common drug known simply as “Marina” is made from aqua or lapis star stones because it’s a common misconception that these star stones in specific have restorative properties (they don’t) there are obviously others assorted by the color of star stones used (Rose, Verde, Jaunest, Lavender, Topaz, you get the idea)
You can typically get any drug by asking to "see Marina" if you're in the right area. You can also ask for "Marina's cousin, [name]" if it's a specific variant you want. why i am directing tumblr on how to acquire fictional drugs i do not know
anyway almost the entire network is based in what you could consider the underside of Mysterium, like there's SOME outreach to other cities obviously but if you want the stuff the way you want it you need to physically go to Mysterium
like i mentioned before, the only accepted payment is other star stones. if ur new they might take lusters or offer you a sample of it for free, but you have to pay with star stones so that they can make more since star stones are hard to get your hands on if it's not in like. . family jewelry.
anyway I have another hc that cassius used a lot of giselas old hair pins to buy drugs but that is another story
Anyway the drug itself is described as having a sharp, almost sweet flavor with kind of the effect of wasabi where it just punches you in the nose and eyes if you take too much at a time. the stuff also emits a faint glow. like very faint you can't rlly see it unless ur in a dark room and even then it's not like a light source or anything
dosing in a large group is known as "getting drowned" and if you OD ur pals will alert a local physician by saying you "went overboard" (in the literally and metaphorical sense) elves probably have an equivalent to narcan but od's are typically handled by simply flushing it out of your system usually by making u puke it all up
the stuff is flamable and can IN THEORY be rolled into little cigarettes of a sort. this is considered the "up-end" way of using it because it's the only way most nobles will use it (aside from bribing alchemists for the liquid stuff)
The creation, trade, and usage of sparkly meth is technically banned and illegal but it's one of those hushy things where behind the scenes basically everyone uses it.
wowza ok i am totally drained i did not realize how much i had developed this random ass thought
anyway lmk if anyone has any thoughts or cool ideas to add. nighty night
AO3 should have an Annotation Mode where you can click to view all of the author's commentary and thoughts about certain parts of the work. A little comment that says "I spent five hours researching vintage radio mechanics for this and didn't even end up using it" or "this is an ancient Hebrew literary technique!" would make my day
thinking about @bronte-deserves-better ‘s Council Yule fic last Christmas the council creating their own sign for Noland is the cutest thing ever get these world leaders out of here
either way there should be some kind of elven sign you are not convincing me we don’t got deaf or mute elves in kotlc shut up
what tweaks me out about kotlc timeline is that sophie says that foxfire is 1000 years old, but brontë says he attended foxfire as a child, but brontë confirmed he is at least 5000 years old?

What is this event?
This is an event where you make fanworks (fanfiction, fanart, poetry, and/or podfic), but you’re trying not to let anyone know it was you! Everyone who participates will pick a fake name, and all works will be posted anonymously. Then, once works are revealed, we’re all going to try to guess who made what. So, try something different, impersonate a friend, and try to throw us all off your trail!
This event will be based on a prompt collection, so you’ll get to submit prompts to an overall pool, and then choose which one(s) from other participants you want to fulfill. Everyone who makes a gift work will receive a gift work. And if this sounds confusing, don’t worry. There will be tutorials and people happy to help! And please feel free to join the Discord even if you're not sure you want to participate. There are more resources, like a glossary of terms, there.
Gift Minimums:
Fic: 1000 words, with an ending
Art: A drawing completed to the standard you would normally post as "finished"
Poetry: 150 words OR a sonnet, villanelle, cascade, ghazal, pantoum, rondeau, or sestina
Podfic: Audio of either 1000 words or the complete work, whichever is shorter
Basic Rules for Participating:
You must be 13 or older.
You must join the Discord server and follow all the rules listed there.
You must have an AO3 account, sign up through AO3, and post your gift on AO3.
You must do your best to make a gift that meets the minimum requirements, and that you think your recipient will like, within the time of the event.
You must contact a moderator as soon as possible if you need to drop out of the event.
You must keep your fake name, gift(s), and recipient(s) anonymous until creator reveals.

FAQ
How will this event work?
You will sign up by making at least three prompts using the event’s tag set. These tags will be nominated by participants during the tag nominations period, and these prompts will go into a big pool we can all pick from.
The nominated tags will be mainly KotLC relationships, but you also have the option to use “additional tags” like tropes and AUs. For example, I could make a prompt for a fanfiction about Sophie/Fitz, and I could add the tags “AU - University” and “Hurt/Comfort” as suggestions for what I want to see. This can help people find the prompts they’re most interested in creating for. Additional tags are optional, though!
Then, when the creation period starts, people will use AO3’s “claiming” function to anonymously claim prompts they intend to create for. This way, we don’t all create for the same prompts.
At the end of the creation period, and once everyone who has made a gift has received a gift, we’ll provide a list of everyone who posted and every fake name. Then, you’ll guess which fake name belongs to which creator, and we’ll see how close we can all get!
How do the fake names work?
Everyone who participates will choose a fake name, like Crow or Kevin. Don’t tell anyone what it is. When you post your work anonymously, you’ll include in your author’s note, “By: Crow.” A fake name is required on the first work you post.
If you post more works after that, you can choose whether or not to include your fake name as part of the game (a lot of works about a certain character from Crow might be a clue to who they are)! However, you cannot have more than one fake name; you must use the same one for the entire event.
How many prompts do I need to sign up?
You'll need to make at least three different prompts. You will not need to offer anything, because participants are not being matched. You’ll simply pick for yourself which prompt(s) you want to fill.
The prompt collection will also remain open until creator reveals. Please do not edit your prompts after signups close—we don’t want a valid gift to become invalid—but you will be able to submit additional prompts throughout the event, up to fifteen total.
How many fanworks do I need to make?
You’re only required to make one gift!
Can I make more than one gift?
Yes! You can fulfill as many prompts from the collection as you like within the creation period, so long as your first one meets the minimum requirements.
After that, any additional works can be full gifts, or they can be “treats”—extra mini gifts just for fun.
What if I don't get a gift?
We won't reveal the works until everyone has a full gift. If none of your prompts have been filled, we’ll post you as a pinch hit, and the exchange will remain closed until someone fills one of your prompts to the minimum requirements. Everyone who participates will receive a full gift.
What isn't allowed in the exchange?
For the comfort of the most number of participants: noncon, incest, bestiality, romantic relationships between characters who are canonically adults (over 18) and characters who are canonically minors (under 18), and NSFW are not permitted. AI is also not allowed.
Considering the series, graphic violence and major character death are allowed, but only if the recipient says they're okay with receiving them.
Can multiple people claim the same prompt?
Technically, yes. However, we ask that you first look for unclaimed prompts so we don’t have several people fulfilling the same few. Later in the event, when more prompts have been claimed, overlap is more permissible.
Can I submit a prompt for a recursive work?
You can only submit prompts for recursive works (fanworks based off other fanworks, like fanart of a fic) for your own fanworks. This is so mods don’t have to keep track of creator permission statements and limitations.
Recursive prompts also don’t count towards your minimum three prompts required.
what medium are you delusionally overconfident that you could ace on the first try despite having no familiarity fondness or experience with the craft i bet i could build a brick oven
