My EP “The Brick and the Vine” is out as of Jan. 10, 2025. I’ve been told the songs are quite sad, which is accurate and intentional. For all its wonder and beauty, the world is full of heartbreak, a fact driven home by recent events in LA — and beyond. These songs are my coping mechanism. Instead of denying pain, they are companions to it, offering their sincerest tenderness and resistance to cynicism.
I debated whether or not to post this video, given the imagery of fire. But ultimately, it has a redeeming message: Pushing through obstacles, harnessing our power, our “firelight,” to find meaning and acceptance. “The Brick and the Vine” is a metaphor for striving, like ivy spilling out of cracks in a wall, growing onwards despite hard realities. Given enough time, something as small and gentle as a creeping vine can eventually break through stone, accompanied by emotional release and the cleansing tears of rain.
I hope you get a chance to listen to these songs and that they offer some comfort to you, not because they remove your sadness, but because they want you to feel what you feel.
