“How many do I get to take?” Evelyn was in a weirdly good mood today, apropos of nothing, and couldn’t help but grin at… thoughts. Evelyn had seen this boy before. It was a live show. Evelyn was slowly getting back into those, though they swore never to fall for the lead singer again. Never would Evelyn make music professionally anymore. It was just a side hobby now. Still, they liked to keep with the in-town rock bands.
“Yeah?” Evelyn asked. “The business isn’t detracting from your band, is it? I’ve seen you play before, you’re pretty damned good.”
“You get to take just bites,” he explained. “But the good news is that you can take as many spoonfuls as you’d like.” He moved his little bag to the front. “I’ve got a fuck-ton of plastic spoons in here.” Hands unzipped the bag and took out a few plastic spoons. “Oh, yeah, it’s fine. It’s not like we’re booked and busy all the time.” He wished they were, but that was the reality.... They may be TikTok-popular, but that didn’t mean they were Bona Fide Stars. (Yet. He hoped.) “Thank you,” he said, a genuine smile appearing on his face. “I wish I’d brought my guitar. Then I could give you a free performance too.”

“Yes, the refrigerators are still on, I have backup generators specifically for them.” While they aren’t typically the type to walk around with wireless Bluetooth earbuds in, Bryn’s phone has been blowing up from employees and clients alike, all worried about one thing or another, which they have every right to be/ But Bryn is also busy trying to recover scattered debris, unsure at this point of what they even lost. “Huh?” they react to Brook once the current phone call is finished. “Oh, no, gods no, I don’t own any pink clothing.” They wrinkle their nose in disgust at the article, then look back up at Brook. “You okay, kiddo?”
“Really? That’s a shame. I think you’d look quite cool in this bright pink adult-sized onesie,” teased Brook. It felt nice to find something to smile about during this horrible situation, even if it was small. “I’ve been better.”

it was just zeke’s luck that a storm would hit roswell on the same week as he had flew his daughter in from new york city to spend time with her—what a whole goddamned disaster. luckily for him, things hadn’t been as bad on his end and since it wasn’t safe for anyone to be outside, he wasn’t called into work and was able to keep the little one safe. still, as soon as it was okay to be outside in order to help, zeke was there after dropping anais somewhere with one of his siblings. head cocks to the side as the firefighter sees someone approaching him, dropping whatever he was looking at to focus on them instead. “hey, can i help you find anythin’ or are you here to volunteer, too?”
“that’s... not mine.” and it’s true. that set of women’s lingerie is not his. he does know who it belongs to, though. it’s rose’s. with his immediate family behind him, he wasn’t particularly in the mood to see them get shocked that he wasn’t always just hanging out chastely and platonically with his girlfriend whenever she came over. “can you pass them over discreetly?” he whispered, or at least the closest thing he could do to it during a raging storm.

“ watch out for the ball ! ” trevante warned, voice booming loudly in hope that the other would hear him in time. the game of soccer had been going on for almost an hour and with how the kids where playing, he knew it was only a matter of time until he ball would go out flying in some poor trespasser’s direction. luckily, the ball ended up missing them completely and he sighed in relief as he jogged up to meet with them. “ sorry ‘bout that. i keep tellin’ these damn kids to be careful but i think you can already tell that they ain’t listenin’. ” he explained while giving them a small, sympathetic smile.
“no, it’s okay.” young man considered the ball at his feet, before deciding to give it a swift kick back into the field. he used to play sports at his school too, and was quite good, even though it was never his passion in life. “erm, they’ll grow out of it eventually,” he said with a wry smile. it’d only been two, almost three years since brook graduated from high school.

Trust is a fickle subject for somebody like Dilan, her natural instinct to question the motives of others too often won out against their kind nature. Call it a learned toxicity or the consequence of too much lived experience, but she quirks a singular brow at some kid offering up food without a price tag attached. “Yeah, nothing’s ever free free.” Unless one believed in five finger discounts, which she did under any other circumstance. The brunette pushes off the concrete wall of some building with both arms crossed subconsciously over her ribcage, the ghost of a smile on her lips to indicate that she’s only teasing. “So where’s the catch? I take one and you… what? Lure me into an MLM scheme? Ask for my firstborn unless I guess your name correctly?”
“How would I lure you into an MLM scheme when I don’t know what that is?” And it’s true, he has no idea what that is. He’s tempted to make some sort of Squid Game joke, but instead says, “There’s no catch. It’s just some peanut butter, Miss.”

brook can feel his boy scout days coming back to him. at the request of his iyaan (aunt), he’s currently walking around carrying a few tubs of her homemade peanut butter with chocolate swirls. he’s a cute young guy and some people may already know him from his band, she reasoned. he should ask people what they think of her product, she implored. sigh. here he is, trying to practice this whole smiling at everyone thing. “hey, can i interest you in some free peanut butter with chocolate swirls? i’m doing a survey for a family business.”
