«E oramai sfinita, priva di vita, al riguardare più e più volte la bellezza di quel volto divino, ella gioisce nell’animo. Vede la meravigliosa chioma, ebbra di ambrosia, di quell’aureo capo; vede il collo bianco come il latte e le guance rosate percorse dai riccioli dei capelli in bel modo intrecciati: alcuni cadevano sul davanti, altri sul di dietro. [...] sulle spalle del dio alato le piume rugiadose biancheggiavano di un fiore luccicante e sebbene le ali stessero ferme, le piume estreme, tenere e delicate, vibravano tremolanti e fremevano senza posa; il resto del corpo era liscio e splendido e tale che Venere non si sarebbe pentita di averlo generato. Davanti ai piedi del letto stavano l’arco e la faretra e le frecce, armi propizie di quel grande iddio.»
