Amalfi Coast
Pin Map as of April 18. Most likely the final version of the pin map.
Break 3
It's been an amazing week. I dare say the best one yet. My mom says I say that every weekend but I think it's true this time. Lagos and Sevilla have both been in my top five cities, if not the top two. Barcelona has had an unbelievable night life. I spent a lot more money than I wanted to, but I know it has been worth every cent. I've met so many people and seen so much. That sounds way too sentimental, but it's really true.
Amalfi
Amalfi Coast
I really didn’t know what I was doing this weekend most of the week. It was really a last minute decision to head to the Amalfi Coast in southern Italy. I didn’t expect much out of it but it turned out to be one of my favorite places of the entire trip. I love a place with a good view and that’s all the Amalfi Coast is about.
We stayed in Sorrento, which is a smaller town. There is an incredible view of Mt. Vesuvius from the water.
Saturday we took an hour and a half bus ride to Amalfi. We didn’t know it would be that long at all. It was kind of crappy because it was a windy road and the bus was completely packed and overheating. Amalfi was even nicer than Sorrento. I had an incredible lunch composed bruschetta and pizza with onions and fresh tomatoes on top. It was probably the best lunch I have had on the entire trip. We walked the streets and down some piers, just enjoying the small town.
We took the same bus back to Sorrento. This time I snagged a window seat in the back. This bus ride was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I loved every second of it. We basically drove along the coast, but elevated quite a bit. The views were absolutely unbelievable. I can’t even begin to describe. I took about 150 pictures and I cannot wait to go through them.
This morning (Sunday) we took a second shot at Pompeii. This time we looked up everything we needed to know. It was pretty interesting and some of the things were incredible. The amphitheater was so well preserved. Everything was really, but it stood out to me. It’s hard to believe everything there was covered almost 2000 years ago.
The Amalfi Coast is definitely a trip I would recommend. I was skeptical when people said I should go, but I’m so glad I did. It seemed very doable in a weekend too. It was the perfect way to spend our last weekend.
I hope my photos will help describe it a lot better than I could.
Self-guided bike tour.
Actual Gazebo from the Sound of Music in Salzburg. The movie was set and filmed here.
Salzburg, Austria Skyline
The view of Neuschwanstein Castle from Marienbrucke (the bridge around the corner).
We took a day trip to Fussen to see the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. This castle was ridiculously elaborate. It took 17 years to build and wasn't ever even finished. The Disney castle is modeled after it!
Munich Skyline
Munich has been one of my favorite cities. The city itself is just pleasant and well taken care of. Our tour was really good as well. Our guide was British, but really enthused about German history.
The Glockenspiel is pictured. It is also the 3rd most disappointing tourist attraction in Europe!
Memorial to thousands unknown.
Dachau.
This place is hard to talk about. It is eerie. It leaves you a little depressed. It is not fun. It really opens your eyes to what went on in Nazi Germany.
Another palace in Potsdam.
This place could be beautiful in the summer.
Grand Palace in Potsdam.
We took a day trip to Potsdam from Munich. It was mainly just a huge park with a bunch of palaces. It was a little disappointing to be honest, but still pretty interesting to see.
