I really don't understand why people think Chuuya was genuienly happy when Dazai left the Port Mafia.

I doubt that Harakuwa took their time to convey such a contemplating and sad expression for people to completely overlook it.

Let's not forget that Chuuya and Dazai were close. They both officially joined the mafia at 15 and had been working together since then.

These two only ever acted like actual teens when they were around each other and they even had their own code language when it came to their plans to defeat their enemies.

Chuuya was basically betrayed by the Sheep so we can expect him fearing of that happening again.

When Dazai left the Port Mafia (I'm not mad at Dazai ofc, his reasons were extremely valid), and then Mori frames Dazai as a traitor to the mafia. You can't tell me that Chuuya didn't feel hurt by this, especially since Chuuya values loyalty, he actually values loyalty to a fault if im being honest.

I personally feel that if Chuuya knew the actual reason as to why Dazai left the PM, he wouldn't have felt as betrayed.

Chuuya and Dazai did have their arguments , but the arguments were very hollow since its pretty clear they both hold a certain care for each other.

I am not saying that after Dazai left Chuuya couldn't function properly, it's obvious Chuuya wasn't a depressing mess after Dazai left. But his partner that he has known for so long to leave without a word and explanation obviously made Chuuya feel anything but happiness.

So in other words: there is a middle ground to Chuuya's feelings. He wasn't in a complete slump when Dazai left but that does not mean he was celebrating either.

Dazai was Chuuya's literal combat partner for about 4 years, it is only logical for him to feel hurt by this.

Also, can we talk about the fact that even if their dynamic was strained due to Dazai's "betrayal" their relationship stayed the same? They both still constantly tease each other, and hold empty death threats above their heads yet there still is this underlying care and trust for one another.

In the Double Black episode/chapter when they had to forcibly work together (which they hadn't done in years), and due to certain circumstances Chuuya had to use corruption, that life-risking power that only the same person that Chuuya boldly "resents" can nullify. So to simplify: In order to use corruption, he needs Dazai to nulify it and if he doesn't then Chuuya will die.

The amount of trust Chuuya still holds for Dazai even after he had left the PM just shows how significant their bond truly is.

I am not even saying this from a shipping perspective, theres so much evidence that points out how strong the partnership and connection that these two share actually is.

(I do ship them ngl, but this post isn't aimed towards romance!)

BSD Stage Soukoku

Tawada Hideya and Ueda Keisuke did really well as Dazai and Chuuya in the play.

Tawada-san notably captured Dazai’s dorkiness, but he literally left my jaw hanging in his short appearance as Mafia Dazai.

Ueda-san definitely possesses Chuuya’s beauty while having that intimidating manly aura. He is exactly how I imagined Chuuya to be, akin to how Kishou did well in acting.

Lastly, the accuracy of the height difference is killing me HELP

reasons to why i ship soukoku

REMINDER: The following content is solely based on my opinion and it doesn’t reflect the entire community of Soukoku shippers. Please read at your own risk for it may contain spoilers. Also, please excuse my poetic ass.

1. They trust each other. It is evident how their partnership is founded with trust. After all, their partnership wouldn’t work if there is no trust between them. Chuuya has to trust Dazai that he would save him every time he uses Corruption, and Dazai has to trust Chuuya to not kill him during those times even though Chuuya can’t recognize friends from enemies. They only have each other during those times and they will make sure that it will stay that way.

2. They know each other like the back of their hands. Dazai and Chuuya know each other too well to the point that they can predict each other’s moves and counter it. The years they spent with each other as partners made them good rivals. If that isn’t the case, then they wouldn’t have been proper partners, would they?

3. They recognize each other’s strength. There is no doubt that they acknowledge each other. Dazai knows that Chuuya can defeat anyone with his strength, and Chuuya knows that Dazai’s intellect can put a whole organization down on their knees. Individually, there are strong; together, they are invincible.

4. The way they smile at each other. The frustrating thing is that they love to do this when the other isn’t looking. Dazai’s smile in the Soukoku episode right after Chuuya lightly punched him is purely genuine. His mask falls off his face and beneath it are his hidden emotions for his ex-partner. Dazai probably hides it because he is afraid that it would be seen as a sign of weakness and someone like him can’t afford to have one. The hidden smiles are also evident in official arts.

5. They are comfortable with each other’s presence. Despite their claim that they hate each other, they are more of themselves when they are together as if their masks have fallen off with the presence of one another. Also, they love pulling each other’s pigtails but, perhaps, that is their way of showing affection.

6. Those small affectionate gestures. Dazai just had to nullify Corruption by gently touching his cheek in Dead Apple. He can touch Chuuya anywhere to nullify his ability, but he chose to touch him as if he would crumble into dust if he hadn’t been gentle enough. Sometimes the smallest gestures hold the deepest meaning. You just have to look below the surface and you would see the treasure beneath it.

7. They risk their lives for one another. There is some sort of a bargain going on between them. Chuuya’s life in exchange for Dazai’s, and Dazai’s life in exchange for Chuuya’s. It is a cycle that doesn’t seem to end yet they don’t mind. As long as they have each other, they would survive this cruel world, because what kind of a world would it be without your beloved partner?

8. They care about each other. Remember when Chuuya rushes over to Dazai when he was hit by Lovecraft? Remember when Chuuya risked his life for Dazai because he said: “I need to give him a smack or I’ll never get over it”? Remember all those times when Dazai saves Chuuya from Corruption? There are far too many risks they have taken for each other because, in the end, they only have each other. To trust and to love.

9. They don’t exactly hate each other. Honestly, if you hate someone as much as you claim you do, you wouldn’t go risking your life to save him. You would just let him die and live on with your life. Of course, that wasn’t the case of Dazai and Chuuya. They insult each other but beneath those words are their doubts and concerns. They are afraid to be vulnerable. They are just a pair of emotionally constipated adults.

10. Opposites do attract. Perhaps Fate loves to play with people’s lives and her current main target are Dazai and Chuuya. Maybe, Soukoku would be the ones to prove that there is truth behind the quote “The more you hate, the more you love.”

In the end, it is up to you how you will interpret this so-called inseparable relationship between Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuuya.
