Mastery Reflection of my Advanced Internet Marketing Strategies Class
When you think you know a lot about a topic, take a class. I thought I knew a quite a bunch of advanced internet marketing strategies. The main thing I took away from this class is how to measure the rate of return on an advertising budget. Being able to execute an advertising budget that shows returns or losses is one thing. However, to be able to project future gains or losses by industry standards adds a whole new level to my advertising repertoire.
I believe that what I took most away from this class due to that is because of the importance of being able to project future outcomes. Marketing and advertising can be seen as a black hole that eats up funds. Along with that, marketing and advertising are seen as the path to build relationships with possible prospects and continue to grow trust with past clients. It is vital to know whether or not it is possible for ads to project to be a positive cash flow or not. Thus said, being able to plan future gains or losses teaches an organization is an ad is worth the time or not.
From there, it is crucial for an organization to design high-quality ads that appeal to the searcher or viewers psychological state of mind. This can be done by using the right text at the right time, a picture to compliment that, and some call-to-action for them respond to that allows them to find out more. Doing this is the best chance an organization to complete a conversion.
I believe adding this capability of configuring the rate of investment projections is help BP Coaching and Consulting significantly. I look at it as an excellent way to create an introductory meeting and be an up-sell for those partnering with BP. Adding this to my services will increase the number of tools in my toolbox toward digital media marketing and advertising mastery.
Reflection Towards Mastery in New Media Marketing
I learned a lot from this new media marketing class. I thought I knew everything there is to know about social media platforms: how to track key performance indicators on each platform and how that relates to my site; how to target keywords through social media; how to advertise on each social media platform; and how each can contribute to an extensive marketing plan.
What I didn't know what anything about the personas of fans, influencers, and brand advocates. I knew that having individuals talk about your brand was important, but this class taught me how to target all three and the benefits of each. To understand my fans, influencers, and brand advocates better, I found the following article most useful. Extending the usual demographics of each, Harte (2011, para. 4-5) breaks it down further. Harte (2011, para. 4) states, "The other challenge with creating personas is being open to expanding persona development well beyond the segmentation you are comfortable with to the inclusion of:
- Â Â Psychographics,
- Â Â Sociographics and,
- Â Â Ethnographics.
In fact, I'd wage a bet that understanding ethnographics (especially in an online community) will give you all of the data you need to truly understand your customer and what makes him tick. But it's going to take elbow grease and audience research." "Ethnographers immerse themselves in a culture to retell the lives of a particular people, to narrate the rites and traditions of that people, and to understand and explain their cultural practices" (La Pastina, 2005, para. 6).
Thus said from this perspective, I need to understand my fans, influencers, and brand advocates. Why are they may fan? Why are willing to be an influencer of BP Coaching and Consulting? How will my material improve each personas business or life to have them advocate my services? How does each persona live their life on the regular basis? The new media marketing class has helped me understand all of these questions and how to market and advertise my services to them strategically. Doing this has allowed me to be more knowledgeable on how to influence each. Thus, providing me have a more in-depth marketing and advertising plan for BP Coaching and Consulting. Therefore, improving my road toward mastery in digital media marketing, especially through social media marketing.

Mastery Reflection for the Website Design Class
I have learned many things in this class. However, the most insightful things I have learned is about the importance of a website's design is to make sure things can be found and are easy to use. In short, we always want to focus our efforts on improving the user's experience (UX). Focusing on the user's experience will enhance the path of information a user will see on the site. Lee (2017, para. 2) states, "User Experience (UX) is part of the design process. However, UX is more focused on the overall experience than just the look of the site. UX involves designing and planning an experience and creating a workflow for the users of a website or app (or any piece of technology really)."
Each web designer and organization can do this from the beginning and throughout the site's entire lifetime. It will be important that the organization runs usability and findability tests toward the goal completion tasks it sets to achieve. Goal completion tasks can start as a micro-post or search engine ad to a lead page. These can go to a lead page which will direct the viewer to be able to do something such as downloadable whitepaper or e-book, sign-up for opt-in video series, send them to a registration page, or all of the above. It will be up to the organization to design the paths and set completion goals.
Completion goals can be created on the backside of Google Analytics. The organization will want to set the different URL paths on Google Analytics to rectify a goal completion. These then tested by ads, micro-post, or by doing research usability or findability research with in-person or off-site. It will be important that the organization has a way to find out what goes right and wrong with these test. This can be done by just asking the person you are conducting the test(s) with or having a software such as FullStory that will allow you to track the web viewers mouse heat patterns and paths taken from a specific point. Notes will want to be taken and implemented to improve the ways things are found. Doing this will allow the organization and site designer to focus on enhancing the user's experience.

Reflection of Consumer Behavior Analysis and How It Relates to My Pursuit of Mastery in Digital Media Marketing
I always come into each class wanting to increase my strengths, improve my weaknesses, and learn as much as possible from what I do not know. One thing I am confident in doing is helping individuals set up a business plan and how that relates to their internet marketing. This classes has increased my knowledge tremendously on what I had already known. Going through a business plan, individuals have to go through a market analysis. A part of that market analysis is an individual analyzing their target market. I typically just examined my clients’ consumer personas. I found this as a weakness because it does not give the full picture of the target audience. Thus said, this class improved from just analyzing their personas to learning about how to identify more in-depth characteristics and behaviors online.
Why is this important as a marketer and advertiser? A marketer and advertiser need to understand their potential buyers’ psyche so they can place content and ads strategically in front of individuals who may be or are interested in making a purchase. Odden (2011, para. 10) states, “Understanding keywords from the perspective of the searcher and where they are in the buying process allows the search marketer to properly optimize content, landing pages, and ads accordingly. Same goes for the making ads and landing pages more relevant because it leads to better performance with click through rates and conversions.” Thus, leading to higher audience interaction, usage, and profitability.
The thing I took away and learned most from this class is that a marketer and advertiser who focus on improving the user’s experience. The user’s experience gets lost when a marketer or advertiser just focuses on rankings, how they look online, conversions and making money. However, concentrating on the user’s experience will allow everything else to fall into place. In conclusion, my pursuit of mastery in my marketing and advertising is always to make it a goal to start with the user’s experience in mind.

Mastery Reflection on Branding
One thing I know I lacked was defining how to portray myself as a brand cohesively. However, to do this, one must understand what a brand is. Neumeier (2005, p. 2) states, “So what is a brand exactly? A brand is a person’s gut feeling about a product, service, or company… It’s a person’s gut feeling, because in the end the brand is defined by individuals, not by company’s, markets, or the so-called general public. Each person creates his or her own version it.” I believe knowing this definition is useful because as a business owner and working with business owners, we try to do everything in our power to create the brand of our “dreams.”Â
However, if we do not portray the right way of being, all of that power channeled into it is a waste. So how do we direct the right way of being for a business? A business owner or leader will want to know the company’s archetypes. Merriam-Webster defines an archetype in psychology as “an inherited idea or mode of thought in psychology” (n.d., para. 3).Â
Why is an archetype important to know? All large brands create an inherited way of thinking about them with the recognition of their logo. This means that when someone views a recognized logo, that person can and will conjure multiple feelings about that company. Usually based on previous experiences on the site of a small image. Thus said, as a digital marketer, it is important to pay attention to our customer’s experiences, values, and attitudes. Giving the wrong impression can be detrimental to the well-being of our reputation. Hence, why it is important to for an organization portrays their desired way of being.
One can configure their archetype at http://kayeputnam.com/brandality-quiz/. Once they receive their results, a person can formulate their brand’s voice and ideal way of being. This is important because as an organization, we want to portray this way of being at all times. Therefore, giving our ideal clients the desired impression we want to them to feel. Thus, giving the opinion of the brand we desire to model.

My Pursuit of Mastery Toward Internet Marketing
After reviewing one of the search engine results on the fundamentals of marketing, I found out I need to get better at some areas and learn from scratch on others.  Riegelman (2015) gave six things that individuals need to know to succeed at online marketing. She (adapted from 2015, paras. 2 – 12) stated, “Here are six tips to help your small business succeed in today’s online marketplaces:
1. Â Pick the right e-commerce for your product or service.
2. Â Realize the importance of branding.
3. Â Take inspiring photos of your products.
4. Â Train employees to give thorough and great customer service.
5. Â Use strategic search engine optimization with your products and services with description.
6.  Use social media to pave a path to show your products and services.”
I am quite strong at four of these and not so much at the other two. I am confident in my customer service, search engine optimization, branding and social media marketing knowledge and skills. I am novice photography and selling products online. As I continue through the course of my program and work as a digital media marketing consultant, I will get even stronger at branding, search engine optimization, public relations, and social media marketing. To also move forward toward my path of mastery, I need to enhance my photography and designs skills. I plan to learn photography and design skills in my free time. I will do this by taking Photography 101 and Learning Product Photography courses by Joseph Linaschke on Lynda.com and implementing what he teaches me by taking photos. I also chose to learn Adobe Photoshop as a goal to enhance my design skills in my New Media Marketing class. To improve my e-commerce knowledge, I am lucky one of the organizations I work with are moving toward selling online products. I am knowledgeable on how to set tracking and conversion tags for e-commerce. I just have never done it. Us moving forward with that will allow me to enhance my knowledge in the e-commerce world. Combining my knowledge about implementing tracking and conversion tags with products and services and doing it will improve my understanding significantly. As I move forward with my classes, organizations, online courses and implementing that knowledge will move me considerably toward my pursuit of mastery in internet marketing.
