isn't great that buck got the spousal treatment in season 3 during the well, and he is only just now, in season 8, examining the fact his feelings for eddie are not normal? like he tried to dig through 40 ft of mud with his hands as he sobbed and screamed eddie's name, but it is only now, when he is forced to linger in the knowledge he is losing eddie to distance instead of potential death, that he takes a closer look. what a guy.

I was so distracted by everything going on that it failed to sink in that buddie is no longer fanon. The idea that something romantic could happen between buck and eddie, that anyone on earth could seriously, genuinely conceive of their relationship as anything other than platonic, is now an actual textual reality when it never was before (beyond a few baity jokes in the early days). Multiple characters brought it up as a real possibility, and the idea played a significant role in the actual plot of the episode. Buddie as a ship has now been canonized, if only conceptually.

Is now a good time to remind people that in the medal ceremony for S7 they showed Eddie when Buck was being presented his medal and not Tommy…

And now in S8 they’ve clarified that Tommy felt he was in competition with Eddie.

That scene showed each of the 118s most important people to them when they were bring awarded (at the time).

This basically confirms that Eddie was always more important to Buck than Tommy during their relationship so he wasn’t wrong to think there was competition there.
