I made a new friend.” You grin and pull back, “that’s great sweetheart.” Your daughter steps away from you and spins around, greeting another little girl who rushes towards her and you assume this must be her new friend. Your smile falls when you look up and see a man hovering over the two girls, holding a Frozen themed backpack and wearing a worn baseball cap. You figure this must be the little girl’s dad so you stand up and wipe your jeans. “Hi” You greet him, stomach twisting when his dark eyes meet yours. You don’t have time to focus on him when your daughter slaps your knee to get your attention, “mama, this is my new friend, Olivia” she announces and you smile, “it’s nice to meet you Olivia.” The man holds his hand out towards you in greeting, “I’m Olivia’s dad, Frankie”

When you tell him your name, Frankie smiles, thinking that it’s absolutely beautiful. He repeats it and looks down at Olivia. “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend, mija?” He asks, looking down at his daughter and lets go of your hand to crouch down to the two kindergartner’s level.
