A Walk In The Park | Larry & Nadine
Larry sat on the steps of the old brick brownstone he grew up in. As he drew the cigarette to his mouth he couldnât help but notice the tremble â something a musician of his stature should never have to deal with. He wouldnât be shaking if someone had answered when he called 9-1-1 or the hospital or the police. The streets of his Astoria neighborhood looked as if a bomb had gone off. There was garbage and debris everywhere, things burning, car alarms going off and even gun fire in various places. All of this seem moot to the fact that his mother, Alice, was lying dead in her bedroom.
Alice Underwood had always been a fighter in Larryâs mind. Heâs watched her get walked over by his lying, cheating, no-good, ramshackle of a father and yet she was still the one person that he knew he could count on in life. No matter what, Larry couldnât lie to her and after his father disappeared she stopped taking shit from people. He was fanciful and she was focused. Larry was an artist with a free spirit and Alice was a hard worker with her nose to the grindstone. Wealth and fame had been so important back then but now all he wanted was to hear her scolding him again.
He wasnât really sure what to do with her. There were no funeral homes if there were no hospitals. There was nothing resembling the life heâd had just weeks before this moment. Instead, he flicked the remainder of his cigarette on to the littered sidewalk only to notice it landed on the cover of one of his CDâs. Baby, can you dig your man? Larry smirked because he knew he was far from being the righteous man heâd proclaimed in the song. That didnât really matter either anymore. Heâd spoken with Remy out in California just a few days ago and now the world was falling apart around him. Taking a shower and packing s few things, Larry took another glance over his shoulder towards his motherâs bedroom. Heâd straightened her body out and covered her up, even changing her night clothes to make her look as respectable as possible, but the air was starting to stink as more and more people were dropping dead from the superflu.
Walking out the door, Larry cleared his mind. He wanted to go where he thought the most people would be but along the way he only heard fighting and yelling and gun shots so for the most part he avoided anyone living. Instead of heading north, which was his first instinct, Larry made his way over the Queensboro bridge to the Upper East Side of Manhattan. There were plenty of abandoned buildings so he held up overnight in a hotel room and tried to not pay attention to the sounds of the night. They were far worse than anything heâd heard throughout his days. And on top of all that he was now dreaming about some religious old black woman in Nebraska. All he wanted was to find another human that wasnât crazy. Eventually he made his way to Central Park. He thought heâd seen a lion roaming the area â which was entirely possible if the zookeepers were all dead and gone so he was grateful for the handgun heâd found.
Suddenly something caught his attention â an odor â something he seemingly had not smelled in weeks. Perfume. Could it be? Following the smell Larry took the risk and started calling out, âHello? Is anyone here?â Feeling like it was futile he quietly spoke the words, âAnyone who isnât bad shit crazy?â

âBaby, Can You Dig Your Man?â by Self.
Love this.  S'like combining The Stand with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
Confidence All by itself Your dreams would not be worth much If they came true to the letter
Pettiness Made a mess Your value only goes as far as everyone And their opinions
This little person made their assertion This littler person screwed their perversion Sometimes all I need is my baby Not just anyone at all
People show me whats up Somebody help me down Somebody saw a silhouetto of a man Baby, can you dig your man? He's a righteous man Baby, can you dig your man?
Periscope? Lay back and fro There's a dragon in the belly of the water Don't reply because
Someone spoke A dirty joke And dirty taste is salty is salty on the tip of his tongue
My little baby wanted to save me My little baby needed to change me All I needed was a simple maybe I guess I'll never tell
If you'll try to refrain I have this to explain My boy lifeline is the wind and the rain Baby can you dig your man He's a righteous man Baby can you dig your man I'll see his like again Baby can you dig your man?
Populance Makes so much sense We'd like to say in closing Thank you for the chance to say in closing
Ignorance Should pay well for bliss Those words will put your eye out Swallow gum for 7 years
My little baby wanted to save me My little baby needed to change me All I needed was a simple maybe I guess I'll never tell
If you'll throw me a rope Get back to that dirty joke He ate his breakfast Now the pigs in the poke Baby, can you dig your man? He's a righteous man Baby, can you dig your man? I'll see his like again
The Stand
Bud will be playing the role of Larry Underwood in a verse based on the Stephen King novel, The Stand.Â
Character Bio:
Becoming a one hit wonder virtually overnight with the hit âBaby, Can You Dig Your Man?â, Larry Underwood falls prey to the many seductions of the rock and roll lifestyle. He bought a fancy house in Malibu and spent more money than he had to his name on fancy parties and drugs to supply every leach that came out of the woodwork.
Feeling overwhelmed by what his life became, Larry flees California in the middle of the night and returns to his childhood home back in Manhattan. He is there when the superflu hits. His mother, Alice, is a victim. Larry hated the man heâd become and watching his mother die was the prompting he needed to make every attempt to be a better man.
When You Love a Woman - Journey (Trial by Fire, 1996)
In my life I see where I've been I said that I'd never fall again Within myself I was wrong My searchin' ain't over...over I know that [Chorus:] When you love a woman You see your world inside her eyes When you love a woman You know she's standin' by your side A joy that lasts forever There's a band of gold that shines waiting somewhere...oh yeah If I can't believe that someone is true To fall in love is so hard to do I hope and pray tonight Somewhere you're thinkin' of me girl Yes I know...I know that [Chorus] It's enough to make you cry When you see her walkin' by And you look into her eyes [Chorus] When you love a woman... When you love, love, love, love When you love a woman You see your world inside her eyes

Wake Up Call || Bud & Blake
She couldnât stop shaking and refused to let go of Bud, afraid that if she did he would slip away and his being there would be a dream. Resting her head on his chest she let the sound of his heartbeat soothe her, though images kept flooding her mind, things long since buried. What Bud didnât know, and in truth no one knew was that she had been raped when she was in high school. A threat to hurt those she cared about left her speechless on the incident and up until this moment she had buried it, finding that easier to do when she became focused on taking care of Brenden and working all the time. Tonight though would be the opening of the Pandoraâs box as it were and she kept returning to that night so long ago, coupled with still feeling her landlords hands on her and she felt a fresh wave of tears well up.
She felt him tense against her when she mentioned the police and frowned at his words, what would be better? When he hung up with the person he called she licked her dry lips, âWho was that?â She asked softly, still leaning into his touch on her back. Â Hearing him say Bull she was able to put the pieces together and pulled away just enough to look at him. Â âWhat does that mean? Weâre covering it up?â Shaking again, she sighed, glancing at what she could see from here was the dead man on the floor. Giving a small nod, it would be the best, who would believe her after all, and being arrested was not something she wanted to deal with right now.
It didnât take Bull long to show up and sticking his head inside, eyebrows arched at the broken door and scene before him his face quickly turned sour. From the shaking Blake in Budâs arms to the broken bathroom door Bull could put together what had transpired. Not saying but nodding at Bud he leaned down to the man on the floor and felt for a pulse that wasnât there. Standing he looked around, âHow fast can you get out of here and I donât mean for today, I mean for good?â
Bud hated the feeling of Blakeâs trembling body. It was an all too familiar one given all the nights Em had used him as a sad attempt to erase the woes of her work. He never felt good enough for her and even though things were different now he never wanted Blake to feel like he wasnât going to do everything in his power to help her. The problem with this situation was no too different from that of Em. No one would believe them. Blake worked at the Inferno and it really wouldnât matter how hard she was working to keep her brother in a quality home; that little detail would be completely overlooked. Bud was a musician outwardly and even though that is what he claimed as his job he would be foolish to think he was not listed somewhere as a known associate of Kennedy Mitchellâs. The police might not know that Bud Fiske was a drug dealer but they knew he did something for the gangster.
Blake was only semi-relaxed when Bud hung up the phone with Bull. He was a good man despite his own feelings and he was becoming an even better one now that he was dating Riley Otis. âWe have to babe. I hate to say this but the police are never going to believe this was an accident. They always take the side of the person with money.â Bud looked over at the limp body of her now-former landlord. Taking Blake back fully in to his arms the man was relieved when Bull showed up. Thankful at the enforcerâs intelligence nothing needed to be explained though Bud was a little confused when Bull asked him how fast they could get out without plans to return. A second later things clicked and he looked at Blake again. âBetter late than never, my love. Weâve talked about it and now is the time. Move in with me. You were already bringing stuff over. Letâs grab what you think youâll really need and get you moved in. Etta loves you and you two get along, right? And I love you. I want you there. You okay with this idea?â
Wake Up Call || Bud & Blake
She was scared, couldnâtremember the last time she had been this scared. Â Blake remembered fear when Brenden was shot, when her parents died, but this was her life that was being threatened. Â She couldnât stop shaking and her thoughtswere all over the place. All she could do was try and get herself away fromthis man who for some reason had lost his mind and was now trying to hurther. Â Whatever happened to him today hadset him off and now she had a bruised cheek, and had hit him with a lamp.Screaming when the door broke open she started crying in relief at the sight ofBud. Â Running towards him she didnât knowwhat her landlord was doing and she didnât care, she had Bud here now. Â He had come to save her and had made itbefore something a lot worse could of happened. Turning to see her landlord trying to get up she wrapped her arms aroundherself, backing away as Bud stepped towards him and kicked him.
A few minutes agoeverything seemed to be going on fast forward but now it seemed to be at halfspeed. She watched in horror as the landlord fell back into the coffee tableand a sound like nothing she had heard echoed in the small space. Letting outanother scream she fell into Budâs arm when he came over to her. Â Shaking so hard her teeth were chattering shetried to answer him but had to take a few deep breaths in order to get wordsout. Â She had thought herself strong andcapable of taking care of herself but right now she was glad that Bud hadstepped in and helped her. Â âIâm okay,âshe said faintly, shaking her head no about being hurt. Â Burying her face in his chest she wrapped herarms around him and held him tight, trying to push out all the thoughts of whatcould have happened had Bud not shown up. The landlord was quiet, perhaps too quiet, and after a moment she pulledaway, afraid he would try and attack them both. Frowning she saw he was in the same spot and hadnât moved at all. Â âBud?â She asked softly, her voice hitchingstill with emotion, âIs he knocked out?â Looking over at him, âShould we callthe police?â
Bud had never really been in precarious situations. He sang about being a rebel but the reality was he was just a guy with a great vocabulary, a knack for making things rhyme and the ability to play the guitar. He wasnât even sure if he sounded good when he sang even though Blotter had a pretty avid following. Bud seriously doubted his abilities on some days and even though he was good at keeping those doubts away from his expressions they still existed. That was until he met Blake. Really he was reacquainted with her since they first met in high school. She had become his everything and Bud knew his future lied in her hands. That was a big risk but Blake Lewis was worth every part of it. She made him bold and made his life feel effortless.
When she called him in a panic there was nothing that would stop him. Now, in her presence as she trembled with fear and confusion, Bud looked at the unmoving man and prayed he was dead. That was until she said the word police and it was like being jerked back in to a hard, cold reality. Life was not daisies. It was murder and mayhem and jail time. He had no idea what kind of guy this man was to his peers and if a woman like Blake would be believed no matter how truthful she was being. Her boyfriend couldnât be the only witness to what an ass the man was. Keeping calm for her sake Bud took her in to his arms and rubbed her upper back with one hand while the other dug his cell phone out of his pocket. âI have a better idea.â
Entering in the digits Bud dialed the one person he knew he could rely in a situation like this: Oscar Bulworth. The man had always been his friend and even though he could have felt betrayed but what took place between them with Em and Kennedy Bud knew that loyalty was the manâs best quality. That loyalty ran deep and included Bud. When Bull picked up on the other end he spoke, âHey man, I really need your help with something. Can you come to Blakeâs apartment ASAP?â
Johnnie is now an indie.Â
Wake Up Call || Bud & Blake
As her landlord continued to pound on the door, cursing herout and then softening his voice to coax her out, Blake wondered why she hadnâtstayed at Budâs.  She knew without adoubt that she loved him, why was she so afraid of telling him?  It seemed silly now as she sat curled in thecorner of the small room with a seemingly mad man banging away on the looseningframe.  Shaking in fear, she once againcursed the bathroom for not having a window to slip out of.  Her mind was all over the place, how hadthings gotten so bad so fast, did she not notice him acting crazy? With anotherloud bang the door crashed in and she had to jump to not get hit with it. Her eyesfound his and all she saw was rage, putting her hand out to try and calm him,he was almost frothing at the mouth.  âWait, wait âŚâ Before more words came out he was grabbing her and dragging herinto the small apartment, tossing her roughly to the ground in front ofhim.  The wind knocked out of her she wasable to scramble away from him as he approached and she tried to stand beforehis hands found her again, tossing her like she weighed nothing, her bodyhitting the bed.
Panic flooded her but with it came something else, a surgeof anger. Â Once again scrambling shereached for the lamp on the side of the bed and pulled, not caring about thecord. Â He stood in front of her laughingand grabbing again, âCome on Blake, put it down and letâs have some fun.â Hisface contorting in anger when she swung it, catching his shoulder, but hisother arm flew out and a wave of pain hit her jaw. Â Her head swung to the side but hearing himmove again she didnât have time to react. Putting all her strength into her swing she hit him with the lamp again, this time in the head. Â He cried out inpain and then hit the floor, a small cut on his head starting to bleed. Â Sliding off the bed she yelled when the doorcrashed open, but there was Bud and she ran to him, falling into his arms asshe dropped the lamp at his feet. Â Wordseluded her, and she stood in his arms shaking and crying, her landlord slowlystirring from the floor, grunting in pain.
Bud had never been the hero type. He was average in both height and build and even though he was in shape he was not a fighter. The real reason he kept his body in anything that resembled sexy was to impress the female fans when he performed. Today that work would pay off. When he heard Blakeâs scream through the door Bud was certain the creepy landlord was at it again. The man would go on binges â usually after having to pay alimony to the wife that left him for another man. The pounding from the inside of the apartment sounded like he was trying to tear through the damn wall and then glass shattering. When Bud tried the door it wouldnât open. He used his shoulder and with all the force he could muster broke the front door open. As he entered the room, Bud saw Blake running to him and the man moaning in pain on the floor. He did a quick once over Blake to make sure she was okay and other than shaking in fear she appeared to be unharmed. Honestly because of Em the first thing he was looking for was that she still had clothes on and she did.
The man was slowly getting on all fours when Bud told Blake to stay right where she was. Anger surged through him. Em had never let him protect her and even though Blake was strong, she allowed for Bud to watch over her and that was something he needed. Clearing the distance, Bud rounded his booted foot back and kicked the man in the face. Thinking nothing more than the kick would knock the guy out, Budâs eyes grew and the man was thrown backward in to the coffee table that divided the tiny living room from the space that served as her bedroom. The back of the landlordâs head landed right on the corner and made an ungodly sound. Bud turned and looked at Blake again. Seeing her fear again Bud didnât even bother to check on the man thinking the hit certainly knocked him out cold. Taking Blake in to his arms, he tried to calm her assuring her that he was there and everything was going to be okay. âAre you alright? Are you hurt? Did he hurt you?â Quickly he took her in to his arms, holding her closely. No further sounds coming from the creepy landlord.
Wake Up Call || Bud & Blake
She was humming to herself as she made coffee, the sun coming in through the large front window. Blake was planning on staying with Bud again, but had spent the night at her own place so she could pack things up, plus she had worked late at the Inferno. Â Not since her brotherâs accident could she remember a time in her life when she had been this happy or content. Â Bud made her smile, made her laugh, and gave her peace. Â She knew she was falling, no, that she had fallen in love with him, but she hadnât told him yet. Â It wasnât that she was afraid to tell him, she didnât think he would react poorly, it was just a big step and he had just come out of a long relationship and was probably not ready for that. Â Hearing a noise outside she frowned, putting down the coffee in her hand. Lately she had felt an increasing unease between herself and her landlord and she wondered if it was him moving about. Â Ever since his wife had left him he became more callous to Blake. Â She was used to the poor treatment from men from her work. Despite not being a dancer the lewd comments did not stop. Â A few times she had found her landlord around the stairs of her apartment and she was quite sure that he had been inside, though she had no proof. Â Opening the door she found him standing there, hand raised to knock. A smile formed on his lips as he took her in, and Blake realized she was in a long t-shirt, one of Budâs, and nothing else. Â Clearing her throat, she hoped he would say his peace and leave she was disheartened when he pushed inside.
âI hope Iâm not disturbing you and that boyfriend,â he said, making sure to drag out the word boyfriend. The apartment was small and the only doored area was the bathroom. Â With a sigh Blake arched a brow and crossed her arms over her chest. Shaking her head no she looked up at him, âDid you need something? I know I donât owe on the rent,â she said softly, keeping a distance between them. Facing her fully he shook his head and moved past her to the kitchen, taking in that she was making coffee. Â âI would love a cup,â he said cheerfully and backed up but did not leave the space. Just wanting to hurry him out she moved in front of him and started making the coffee, feeling him move closer she spun around, spoon still her hand. Â All he did was laugh and reach for her, making her duck under his arm and run. Quickly he caught up with her and grabbed for her again but she was too quick and made a dash for the bathroom, closing the door and locking it. Â Heart pounding in her chest she almost cried in relief when she saw her cell phone on the sink. Â He was pounding on the door and demanding she open it, thinking he had her trapped. With shaking hands she called the last number she dialed, relieved when she heard Bud on the other end. Â Tears down her cheeks she whispered into the phone, âBud, come quickly please.â Another loud thump made her yell out and she covered her mouth with her hand, âHurry.â
@budfiske
Bud was so worried that his feelings were going to scare Blake away. Heâd always thought heâd moved too quickly with Em and even though he and Blake waited weeks before theyâd had sex he was more than sure he could look her dead in the eyes and proclaim his love. She was different â about that he was sure. She got him on levels no one else ever had and that in itself was amazing. She knew what he did for a living; she encouraged his music and was happy to hear he was willing to step away from Kennedy completely when his mother finally passed. He would continue on though if it meant helping take care of Brenden and keeping her out of that awful bar. The fewer hours she needed to work the better. She also told him in the past that she wasnât crazy about where she was living and that her landlord gave her the creeps.
Waking up without her next to him made him long for her to be there. Heâd tossed the idea of her moving in for a while. The house felt so empty without his mother in it and even though Etta was there he still felt this pull to have more around him. No matter what heâd told himself he knew he would never be fully prepared for the day Margaret was gone and Blake felt like the biggest piece of hope for him. Bud was already on his way to her place when his phone rang. Expecting a sultry hello and her usual playful giggle Bud was caught off guard by the panic in her voice. He could hear pounding in the background and what sounded like a manâs voice. Flooring it, Bud raced to her apartment as quickly as he could damn near skidding in to the driveway. Taking the steps to her door two at a time he didnât even bother to knock or announce himself when he pushed the door open.

Stoners are always late... My bad.
Tidy Time | Bud & Etta
When she saw his hands go up she misinterpreted and flinched, and only realized afterwards that his gesture was only a sign of exasperation. Not only were eyes glossed over with tears, but her cheeks burned with embarrassment over grossly misreading and overreacting. The calmness in his voice proved that she couldnât be more wrong. Trying to sort through her own thoughts and his words she tried to figure things out.  All she could hear though was negativity, and assumed she wasnât doing a good enough of job at balancing her job and her duties. Nervously her hands gripped one another, âI donât need you to hire anyone. I can do it. I want to do it.â  She looked around the room which by most people standards was impeccable, but she knew what it was like to bow to a tyrant.Â
Biting her lower lip she looked down at her lap contemplating, and eventually lifted her blues eyes to his. âI donât know what to sayâŚ.I donât know what you want to hear.â Casting her gaze down to her lap again for a moment to collect her thoughts, and trying to slow her heartbeat a symptom of her anxiousness. Letting her shoulders drop she realized he must think she was crazy, and she wasnât so sure on how to fix the situation. Maybe opening up would help put things in perspective. âI really donât want you to hire anyone, or spend more money. Itâs just that before I came to CaliforniaâŚmy boyfriendâŚ.â She stopped because she wasnât sure where to begin. âThe only thing I was allowed to do was maintain the house, and it was often a point of contention. I tried very hard, but it was never good enough.â Shaking her head, âGuess I just need to prove myself that i can handle it allâŚbalance things: work and keep a home. I need to prove him wrong.â    Â
The only woman Bud had ever been around that was abused in the past was Em. There were things she would do, motions and reactions where all he could do to comfort her was show her he was harmless. Sometimes since the breakup he wondered if heâd done a good enough job at that. He could tell his sister was shy and in her case shier than anyone heâd ever met. Making eye contact with her was hard when it came to talking about serious things but when she was jovial everything appeared normal. There was a piece of the puzzle missing because Etta flinched when his hand went up. Why would she have the impression he was going to hit her over something so trivial unless sheâd been hit over something so trivial? He lips flattened and then formed in to a frown. âEtta, Iâd only do it to help you.â
Her reaction broke his heart. Ettaâs inability to just look at him and the nervousness running through her all he wanted was to comfort her but he wasnât sure how she would react to that. At the same time she needed to know she wasnât his slave. When she spoke of her past and the way that her ex treated her, his heart went from broken to fire. Very few things pissed Bud off but thinking his sister was abused â and she had to have been? Bud moved and got on his knees before her, gently taking one of her hands. âSis, I will never tell you that you arenât good enough. Youâre perfect to me. I couldnât ask for a better sister. If you want to prove that you can do it all then go for it. If you want to show him he was wrong, by all means. But do it for you. This house hasnât been this clean since before my mother got sick and I promise you it is immaculate to me. You wonât get complaints here.â Swallowing he felt the need to reassure her even further, âI am here for you. I donât just want to put a roof over your head sis or give you an address. This is your home too and I am so sorry if you havenât had that but you do now. Please talk to me if youâre worried? Youâll get no judgement here.âÂ
