26. pureblood. probs a purist with bad decision making skills, tbh.
look, i really tried to find something nice to make this look all pretty, but i just wanna get it up before i have to get ready for birthday festivities so please forgive me. (and honestly it’s still entirely accurate)
alright, so this is a request for sybill’s ex-husband. now, in canon his name is higglebottom but i’m taking some creative license and going au here because i want him to be a pureblood. doesn’t really matter which family he’s from, but he does need to be the same age as sybill and have attended hogwarts, since that’s where they met.
sybill has always been relatively indifferent to romance. whatever comes her way, comes her way. but it’s not something she ever particularly spent a lot of time thinking about. and no one had really shown much interest in her either, so it worked out fairly well. until her ex came along. he was infatuated with her and she, unexpectedly, loved every moment of the attention he gave her. she didn’t fall in love with him - per say - as much as the idea of him, and the way he made her feel.
they dated throughout their seventh year, and immediately after graduation he asked her to marry him. which, i don’t imagine his family was entirely happy about, considering the trelawney’s aren’t the most upstanding pureblood family. but they begrudgingly accepted the engagement. after sybill said yes, of course.
and almost immediately after wedding preparations began, she instantly started to regret that decision. there were just so many things wrong with them. he wasn’t really the sort of person she wanted to spend her life with. he was definitely more of a purist than she was, and that bothered her. not to mention the idea of living a perfect little life and having perfect pureblood children to uphold the ideal of what a proper pureblood marriage should look like made her want to hurl. over time, she began picking everything apart and realized she was making a huge mistake.
however, being the mess that she is, that didn’t stop her from going through with marrying him. i think part of it was that she was hoping after the wedding she’d realize that she was just being over dramatic and things weren’t really all that bad. another part of it was absolutely that she was just terrified of being alone. but things progressively got worse after the ceremony. there was a lot of fighting, and not really any making up, just a lot of ignoring that it happened.
eventually, what pushed them both over the edge was when sybill refused to change her last name to his. they hadn’t even been married a full two months at that point. and while there is genuinely no power on this earth that could make sybill give up her last name, it was very much just an excuse for them to get a divorce. which they did, and it wasn’t pretty.
it’s been about eight years since then. they don’t talk - ever, really. when they do, if they do, i doubt it’s been very pleasant. i think over the years they’ve become more resentful of each other and the relationship they had, for various different reasons. they still have a huge effect on each other, but it’s not like pulling heartstrings. they were never and will never be in love, but whatever it was that drew them to each other before is obviously still there.
this isn’t a romance request, i’m not even entirely sure what their relationship or interactions would be going forward, or if they would even exist. but it’ll be fun and angsty and entertaining, so someone should totally take him. i tried to leave things kinda vague and open ended so that we can plot them out, but there’s absolutely a lot more ideas i have about them floating around in my head.
