Bruno’s son Oscar
For starters I am not Colombian nor will I claim to be.
Meet Oscar, Bruno’s adopted son. (This may not be his final design I just needed to try and figure out what the kid looks like) More about him under the cut

Bruno’s son Oscar

Crash
So quick thing, sorry for just up and vanishing. Life shot happened. But we are coming back with more Oscar and all about his life so buckle up!
As known Oscar would sleep in the nursery most nights because he hated his room.
Well a few months after Bruno left, Oscar just so happened to find a book about Morse code totally not suspiciously on his bed.
So he starts to read it, because he loves to read fun fact, and slowly learns Morse code.
He practices it out on the walls of Casita after Maribel has fallen asleep and a few weeks later was when he got his first response
It scared him enough to where he didn’t do it for a few nights. Though he reasons in his mind that it was Casita speaking back to him.
So for years he would spend the nights away tapping on the walls and telling ‘Casita’ about his day.
One of the most common phrase coming back was mi pequeño rato (which I hope translate to my little rat) which was what Bruno would call Oscar.
It always made Oscar feel safe and as if his papí was still there
Little did he know it was actually Bruno who had left the book and who was co versing with him through Morse code. Not that he would actually tell Oscar this, especially when the good nights from Oscar would range from “Goodnight Casita” to “Goodnight papí”
Kinda of a rewrite of gay one scene of Wil Smith yelling about his dad to Uncle Phil but Will is Oscar and Phil is Julieta
For context this takes place after Casita is rebuilt and everyone is working towards rekindling relationships and working towards forgiving/forgiveness
Julieta: [after Bruno left the room without saying anything to Oscar] I'm sorry, Will.
Oscar: You know what? Actually, this works out better for me, you know. I get to focus on my own projects without interference you know...
Julieta: Will, it's all right to be angry.
Oscar: Hey, why should I be mad? At least he’s here now. I just wish I hadn't wasted my time making him this stupid present.
[places a rauna with patters of rats and such on the table]
Julieta : I'm sorry. You know, if there was something that l...
Oscar: You know what, you ain't got to do nothing, Tía Julieta. Ain't like I'm still six years old, you know. Ain't like I'ma be sitting up every night asking you, "When's Papí coming home?", you know. Who needs him? Hey, he wasn't there to teach me how to use my gift, but I learned, didn't I? And I got pretty good at it too, didn't I, Tía Julieta?
Julieta: Yeah, you did.
Oscar : Got through my first nights in my room without him, right? I learned how to grow, I learned how to shave, I learned how to move past him. I had ten great birthdays without him. He never even sent anything!
[turns toward the kitchen door]
Oscar : [shouts] I don’t need him!
[long pause as Oscar struggles to regain his composure]
Oscar: I ain't need him then and I don't need him now.
Julieta : Oscar...
Oscar : No, you know what, Tía Julieta? I'ma keep growing, I'ma be the best me I can, I'ma marry me a beautiful honey, and I'ma have me a whole bunch of kids. I'll be a better father than he ever was, and I sure as hell don't need him for that, 'cause ain't a damn thing he could ever teach me about how to love my kids!
[long pause; Oscar starts to cry]
Oscar: How come he doesn’t love me?
[Julieta rushes forward to hug Oscar, and Oscar breaks down sobbing]
I’m going to write an actual scene for this now
Don’t know who remembers but in one of the posts I compared Oscar’s view of his and Bruno’s relationship after Bruno comes back as quite similar to the scene with Will Smith and Uncle Phil about Wills dad.
Well I found the script and such for what was said for the scene so next post is going to be that slightly changed up to fit the narrative
Love making happy Oc’s then giving them trauma
Oscar doesn’t have OCD like his dad but he did pick up some of the patterns he does (he did become superstitious though but a lot less) and most of them happen when he gets overwhelmed, anxious, and of course when it would normally call for it
For example
The knock on wood mantra and actions
Holding his breath for a certain amount of time
Walking in and out of a room multiple times
There are some habits that Oscar picked up himself
Oscar does this hand motion, it’s hard to explain but I’ll try
It starts with an open hand
Then first the pink comes towards the palm, then the ring finger, and so on
But they don’t come one at a time
It’s like a ripple, the pinky starts it and the rest follow
As they move towards his palm his thumb rubs against ears of the fingers
Reopen hand and repeat
I’m sorry if this doesn’t make since
Will pop his knuckles and just about any bone he can
Tw: some self harm underneath the cut
I’ve mostly talked about Bruno and Oscar, so let’s do a post about Oscar’s relationship with everyone else!
If there is any relationship you want me to go more in depth with, just ask!
Everything else will be below the cut
As I work on my nightly long post I give you the mind image off
Tiny Oscar wearing Bruno’s rauna to help him calm down before and after his gift ceremony. It was about the only time you would see Bruno not wearing it.
After Bruno comes back and Oscar is still unsure about his dad, one of the first alone time interactions they have is Bruno draping his rauna over Oscar. No words where said but none needed to be.
So first off, I am not a songwriter nor am I any good at it. But I wanted to try and get an idea o for what Oscar’s verse in “We don’t talk about it Bruno” would be.
It would start off with anger, talking about how Bruno left him parentless and how after getting his gift wouldn’t even give Oscar a hug without gloves, which while Bruno was doing it to protect him Oscar saw it as him being afraid/ashamed of him and his gift.
But it would change from less anger and resentment to a more longing tone. Kid just wants his dad back and wants to do father son activities.
I don’t know if that makes sense but that’s how it is
If you know how to write lyrics and need something to do, go ham
Growing up Oscar knew very well that he was Bruno’s kid. He was reminded of it everyday from the whispers and glances in the village.
This of course builds up some resentment towards his papa, the man who had supposedly ran off and left his only child to be parentless.
Why am I saying this? Well because you know that one clip of Will Smith where he is talking about how he never needed his dad? Yeah. That’s Oscar before Bruno comes back. Imma do a post all about that video here soon.
Oscar grinning: I have a knife
Bruno: Put it down, Oscar
Oscar: Make me! *sprints away*
If anyone wants to hear about my hcs about OG Encanto or the Replica Au (Oscar) do an ask or something because I honestly need one push and I will share it all
Especially about Oscar. I want to talk about the boi
Oscar: Honestly, I am so evil. So full of darkness. I feed off the souls of the living I strike fear into-
Bruno: You sleep with a rat stuffed animal
Oscar: He’s my sECOND IN COMMAND IN MY ARMY OF DARKNESS!
Let’s talk about Oscar’s ceremony! I’m not gonna go into that much detail on his gift but if you wanna read that I have a post for it I don’t know how to link posts on mobile
No one was sure on if Oscar would get a gift
Since technically he wasn’t blood related to the Madrigals but he did join the family before he was five
Bruno didn’t want to look into the future because he ha dander a promise to himself that he would experience everything with his son, not through some vision
So it’s Oscar’s fifth birthday, technically the day they found Oscar but that was the best they could do
They had a party with the family
No one from the village was there
And as Bruno was bringing Oscar back to the nursery for him to go to sleep, a door materialized, all shiny and shimmery
Of course he instantly calls for the rest of the family and they can all only assume that it’s for Oscar
Since he’s the only one ‘of age’
So they go through the whole steps, Abuela doing the little speech and story on how the candle came to be
Finally it’s time for Oscar to open the door
He looks at his dad who gives him a reassuring and eager nod
Oscar reaches for the door and the image that appears on it is him holding and infinity sign
Nothing big happens like Antonio when he talks to the toucan or when Dolores got overwhelmed with the new amount of hearing
That is until Bruno picks him up
Bruno may not know what his sons power is but he’s still gonna be the supportive dad
So he picks Oscar up and hugs him
Of course this leads to skin on skin contact which triggers Oscar’s gift
Just like when Bruno does a vision the wind picks up and Oscar’s eyes begin to glow
The vision that Oscar sees is actually the same one that Bruno sees in the movie
The one of Mirabel standing infront of a broken Casita
Now imagine seeing that at age five, the home that adopted you being broken and a person you don’t even know standing in front of it
More and more visions, more minor in importance than the first one, happen non stop for a few minutes but it feels like hours
When they do finally stop the silence is almost louder than Oscar’s crying
With just a look from Abuela, Bruno takes his son to the nursery and little Dolores follows
Bruno lays Oscar down, goes to give him a kiss on the forehead but of course stops
After all the skin on skin was what triggered it
Bruno leaves to go talk with the rest of the family, Dolores stays in the nursery, Agustín and Felíx put the remaining kids to bed
Oscar eventually stops crying and Dolores gives him a hug
She’s six, she doesn’t fully understand what happened
This leads to Oscar suddenly getting Dolores’ power of course
Not only is he suddenly able to hear his heartbeat, his lungs frantically expanding and shrinking
But he can hear the grownups talking
About him
Not all being use to this gift though he wasn’t able to understand everything that was being said
“We’ve never had someone with the same gift”
“Mami we don’t know if it’s the same”
“His door is different”
“We all saw it, the wind, the glowing eyes”
“There’s a way to explain it”
“How will he of use to the village?”
The last phrase is was sends Oscar into a whole new fit of sobs
Which only causes his ears more pain which leads to more crying
Dolores is able to get enough out of the boy to understand that he just used her gift, while she was also hearing it
Not knowing what else to do she runs to where the adults are and tells them that Oscar used her gift and was also currently in pain
Bruno is the first to reach Oscar who is clutching his ears to try and muffle the noises
It takes quite a few hours but eventually Oscar was soothed to sleep and put to bed
At the same time of when Bruno is soothing Oscar Pepa and Felíx is with Dolores asking her what all happened and reassuring her that it wasn’t her fault
At the end of the night the grown ups say back down to talk about everything that happened
After the two experiences it became a bit more clear what Oscar’s gift was
And the fact that skin on skin causes it
Abuela still wasn’t sure on how this would help the family and village but Bruno was quite happy
His son wouldn’t be held to just one gift
He would be able to experience so much more than anyone in the family could
Bruno talking about Oscar when he was a kid: The first time Oscar opened a box of Cheerios and looked inside he yelled, “OH WOW! DONUT SEEDS!”
Oscar is that nice and unhealthy mix of anxiety and low self esteem and feral gremlin energy to where he just is
