Dragon Zhongli has a penchant for sniffing you.

He doesn’t mean anything by it; it’s merely one of the ways he seeks comfort in your presence—your scent makes him happy. Even if you’re right there in front of his eyes, get ready for gentle gusts of breath to ghost over you.

You could be minding your own business, admiring the flowers in your garden…and then you feel warm air hit your back, and when you turn, you just see his draconic mouth, nostrils flaring, amber eyes dancing like flames.

And then he sniffs you aggressively.

Narrowing your eyes at him, you wait for him to finish, to pause and catch his breath…but when he exhales he’s back to sniffing you in short bursts.

There’s a low growling sound when you walk away, but you’ve learned to pay no heed.

He’s back at it again after following you anyway. Snout beside your ear, he whickers eagerly. Rapid inhales, like an overgrown puppy.

Celestia forbid you want to enjoy a nice afternoon nap in the grass, feeling the gentle sun wash over you as you close your eyes and begin to drift into the realm of sweet dreams.

You can feel the shadow even behind your eyelids—at first you assume a cloud must be passing over the sun, but when you hear that all-too-familiar staccato of breathing, whipping your hair and clothes like a gale has been created for you personally, you open your eyes to see your big dragon husband looming over you, taking in your scent for the umpteenth time this afternoon.

“Zhongli…” You lean away, he only leans in, snout nuzzling at your side, whickering like there’s no tomorrow. “I smell exactly the same as I did three minutes ago.”

“I know, darling,” he rumbles between puffs. And the whickering continues.

If you were to somehow worm your way out of his grasp and peer behind him, you’d see his tail swishing side to side in bliss, the golden tuft threading through the tree branches like autumn leaves.

Who knows, one day Zhongli might decide sniffing no longer satiates him. He might open his great maw and…

After a point, Zhongli had gotten used to having his dronings tuned out or dismissed. He’s always been quite the yapper, after all.

It hadn’t taken him long to realize most people were seldom in the mood for his endless chatter, a stream that would flow tirelessly unless something else sprouted up during the conversation and they were able to excuse themselves. Well, figures—he has far more knowledge about most things than the average person, and his repertoire would often encompass things people had little interest in.

But you’re here now, and you’re always eager to listen to him speak, no matter how drab or mundane the topic. Zhongli found he could speak to you about anything and everything under the sun and you would sit there, a smile on your face and a sparkle in your eyes as you clung to each word that left his lips.

Really, it’s pleased him so much. It’s truly endearing just how willing you are to sit and listen to him talk about anything ranging from the history of the tea leaves in Chenyu Vale to how the animal kingdom has come to be classified.

One day, after he’s finished telling you a story about the origins of platinum jewellery, he finally says, “You are always an enthusiastic listener to my tales. Truly commendable, dearest, that you do not tire of me.”

“Oh, I could never tire of you,” you say earnestly, supplementing it with a dreamy sigh as you lean against him. “You could tell me a story about dust bunnies and I’d laud it as the most interesting thing ever.”

He chuckles, nuzzling you affectionately. “I am glad my ramblings please you so.”

“I could listen to you talk forever,” you sigh happily. “You’re just so cute when you talk about the things you’re passionate about!”

“Only you perceive me as such.” He pats your head, a pleasant warming sensation abuzz in his heart.

“But I’m being honest. I just really like listening to your voice. It’s soothing and puts me at ease.” You gaze up at him lovingly. “So do tell me about dust bunnies, won’t you? I’m serious!”

Ah, how long has it been since someone unironically asked him to meander with his words? This is but one of the reasons he loves you. With a little laugh, Zhongli launches into a tale about dust bunnies as requested—because he does indeed have a story for everything—and internally coos as you latch onto every word keenly with nods and wide eyes.

I found u/raspberrymareep's analysis of Hagumi Kitazawa. I wanted to put the screenshots from the VN but the quality was trash. So you all will only get the long as text.

" I've read this before awhile ago. When I first read this convo I was shocked but Hagumi living in an emotionally abusive household does line up with her character. I noticed Hagumi is pretty sensitive to the mood around her, like when she hangs around Kokoro her energetic side comes out even more so than normal for example. And being sensitive to the atmosphere and mood around you can come from growing up in that sort of environment. When your parents are around you try and figure out if it will be a "good mood day" or a "bad mood day" and if its a bad one then you are extra careful to either not upset them or avoid them. If you aren't careful or "talk back" then bathtub breaking and dad legit leaving the house ensues in Hagumi's case. This kind of behavior carries over into outside of that.

Then theres what her mom says, being lonely because Hagumi has hobbies that keep her away from home. This isn't just a worried parent thing, not when legit right before her mother broke a bathtub because her daughter wasn't conforming to what she wanted her to be. That isn't normal, none of this is. Hagumi (and Koroko too) hasn't realized how not normal and bad this situation is yet, which is understandable because I also didn't realize it til way after high school. Yeah I recognize this shit cause I lived it, when I read what Hagumi's mother said in the bathhouse I was like "oh fuck that sounds exactly like what my mom has said to me", it was eerie honestly. And yes that behavior I mentioned earlier does carry over and I'm still trying to break the habit, example being when I lived with a roommate I came home from working before she did and there was always part of me terrified of her coming home even though I had zero reason to be because my roommate wasn't a threat like at all (she's a good friend of mine). It was bizarre.

While my parents didn't have problems with things like girlyness (most of the time) or joining a band, it was other things that I won't totally go into to avoid making this post long/rambley. Let's just say its a combo of overprotectiveness and not understanding my mental issues. [ . . . ] My point is just I understand Hagumi a lot after reading this convo. I wasn't sure how to feel about her until I read this and it all clicked cause I've been where she's been and now I want her all the happiness and I'm glad she's found friends who love and support her. I did and she did too and that makes me happy. A+ writing Bandori. "
