Cycling into work this morning I saw that the iconic yellow letters have been taken down from the world’s first IKEA store.

It has spawned many young since opening on the 28th October 1958. Today, some 54 years and 5 days later, a new Älmhult store opens for business, boasting the world’s largest IKEA range, including a new stationery/paper stuffs department and a greenhouse for the plants.

Happy retirement you little blue box. Your work here is done. See you in a couple of years in your new life as the IKEA Museum.
