I am so done with all these fandoms. Serial killer fandoms and now a planet fandom?! what the actual fuck?
have you considered that the concept of gijinka characters has existed long before the tumblr planet fandom (ex. hetalia started in 2006, milky way and the galaxy girls in 2005)? while we’re on the subject, there are literally art pieces from centuries ago that also personify planets, and arguably, ancient religions also personified celestial objects (sun/moon gods, Tanabata, etc.) so the concept predates the internet, much less tumblr. "planets do not have feelings" is the most insular fucking logic here. are we going to start applying this logic to every piece of media that plays with personification?
I guess Toy Story is a BAD MOVIE because toys don’t have feelings in real life!
Pixar’s Inside Out is also bad because emotions are an ✨ABSTRACT CONCEPT✨ and they can’t ALSO have emotions!
Osmosis Jones and Cells at Work are HORRIBLE because body parts can’t have emotions, right?
Animal Crossing is AWFUL because animals aren’t sapient and can’t own homes, much less own shops and be your employer!
every single media that personifies nations (Hetalia, Scandinavia and the World, Countryhumans, etc.) is bad, not bc of warranted criticism on how that concept could be mishandled, but because LAND MASSES don’t have FEELINGS! WOW A+ logic, gold star for you! /s
but god forbid people just wanna have fun with a concept, right? how in the straight fuck is that comparable to a serial killer fandom? personifying planets has been a concept for centuries, and like I said, arguably even in ancient religion. unlike fetishizing serial killers, the mere idea of characters representing planets IS NOT inherently hurting real victims and fetishizing real-life murders. but you know what? the Milky Way Fandom, Planethumans, Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls, Planet Masters, Solar Emissary, and Earth-chan fandoms are all thriving and doing just fine. fuck off and do something better with your life, and while you’re at it, maybe don’t compare REAL PEOPLE GETTING KILLED to a harmless fucking concept that’s existed for longer than any living human has.
