im sorry if this makes me single minded or childish, but the patriotism posting i’ve seen this morning makes me sick. people justifying loving america because of the grand canyon, or high school homecoming, or blue grass music, or whatever the hell is enraging me. those things are not inherently american. they just happen to be associated with or created in this country. america isn’t about music, or the space race, or natural wonders. it has been, and always will be a memorial of the millions of people that were killed, enslaved, dehumanized, and displaced to create it. im sorry, but i don’t think any indigenous american gives a fuck about how much you love hotdogs. i highly doubt my sharecropper great grandmother would share your sentiment that america is something worth celebrating because the Empire State Building is a good enough reason for her to forget how this country sanctioned the lynching of two of her brothers. and i would bet money that all of the japanese americans ripped from their homes and forced into internment camps after pearl harbor because of executive order 9066 would laugh in your face to see you celebrating and shaking your ass for this “land of the free”. america is a system, it’s a piece of land. land, despite what the capitalist white fucks will have you believe, doesn’t belong to anyone and cannot be claimed by one group who committed genocide to get it. you can love all of the good things created in america, because i do too. but to parade around like the COUNTRY america is something to be proud of is disgusting. peoples lives are more important than your faux patriotism. all of your “love” for this country will NEVER amount to the fear and dread i feel when i step inside a new space hoping i won’t get called a n****r. saying that you love this country, even while acknowledging it’s faults, is disturbing and disrespectful. my opinion will not be changed- nobody can convince me that this hellhole is something worth celebrating. so the next time you shit on someone for hating america, im gonna call ICE and have them throw you in an immigration camp. see how easy it will be to ignore the atrocities being committed by your government now.

if you think british nationalism is evil(which it is!) you need to understand that american patriotism is as well and believing that a country responsible for oppression and genocide is a country that deserves to be celebrated genuinely makes you insane
