I really like the boondocks and I have watched all the seasons, except the 4th. It is my understanding that it's not written by the same person and is significantly worse than the first three.
I'm only four minutes into the 3rd episode of the 4th season, and I believe I can see the dip in quality, but at the same time, if I didn't know how people felt or that the writing had changed, I would just think it was my personal preference.
So if it gets really bad or if I think it's better than what I expected, I will say so later

Dude, FUCK this episode and fuck this season honestly.
This shit got so much more disgusting than I ever would have imagined. The first half was about Riley coming under fire for using "gay" like he does, and I was already skeptical because it didn't really work in my mind to have the queer activist group in a position where they could pressure the Freeman's or "destroy way bigger lives" than Riley's, but it was whatever.
It honestly was not a huge deal until the second half. I don't even want to describe this half of the plot but, basically they get the leader of the queer group under fire because they tell everyone Riley has some type of unspecified disability, or he's "specially abled", but obviously it's The Boondocks so they're using different language.
Let me say first, I honestly love most of the caricaturing the show does. I believe this allows us to immediately recognize figures or people from our lives and laugh at the ways they are accurate, while also using the caricature to more deeply analyze those people in our lives. And in some of these cases, feel more sympathy for people we may not have fully understood.
But this episode, these caricatures.
Not only is there no semblance of "accuracy" (Which I don't think would have been possible, as there is not a comparable culture between the disabled and black community, similar to the gay vs. black problem in this same episode), these caricatures are not people. They are made to be dumb patrick star ass figures that look grotesque and gross and justify Riley not wanting to be "r***rded"

Which is another thing. As a fag ass nigga, I don't wince when I hear these slurs on the show, which is good, because it would make it very difficult to enjoy lol. I understand this is 100% personal preference, but I tend to find it funny when the characters (and voice actors) these slurs don't describe use them, as long as it's funny, which is usually is on the show. There's an awareness that I appreciate. I realize that might not be a popular opinion, but I specify all that to say,
I hated the use of the r slur in this episode a LOT. And I admit, I still winced at the few uses in the first three seasons, but in THIS EPISODE ALONE, they use it so much that it made me so physically uncomfortable. And I don't think it's just that but the vitriolic nature of each time. Other times they'd just used it as a replacement for "stupid", but with this specific context, and the show itself supporting Riley's fear of being viewed as "r***rded", it takes on a much worse meaning and feels way grosser when they use it.
The show will usually use Ruckus to express the opposite of the viewpoint the narrative expresses, but in this episode, he's ableist. And so it the show. AGRESSIVELY ableist. I have no idea how not even one person saw an issue with depicting people this way. Yes, the show thrives on broad caricature, but this is different. This is hateful. The only explanation is that the writers just don't see disabled people as people.
It's really fucking bad. It's disgusting. It made me nauseous.
And THIS is the LAST EPISODE. This is the send off for a show that once had such clever and funny writing. Effortlessly tying in humor and a real message and pulling no punches, degraded to this cheap humor family guy bullshit.
It's really so sad.
I did not like this season. I didn't like the Flizzy episode at all.
The Stinkmeaner clone episode was just a rehashing of the old Stinkmeaner episodes and was boring asf.
Breaking Grandad TRIES to make a point about black women feeling like they need their hair to be straight, but never gets into why and just uses it as a plot beat.
Freedom Ride or Die was pretty damn boring, and didn't seem to have a lot going on.
Freedomland was.... a little bit better? idk honestly
I Dream of Siri is literally so straightfoward and simple that there is an Amazing World of Gumball (or WWWOG) episode with the EXACT same plot. I love Gumball, don't get me wrong, but I kinda expect for intelligent writing from THE BOONDOCKS relative to it.
And "The New Black" was utter fucking shit.
A terrible last season and a VILE last episode for this great show. Real sad.
My favorite of the season was probably Early Bird Special, because that one at least FELT fun.
I'd probably watch that one again, everything else, fuck it.
