The August full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon (AKA the Grain Moon, Green Corn Moon, Fruit Moon, or Barley Moon). The name of this moon is inspired by North America’s largest fish, the lake sturgeon. Other names for the moon come from crops that are typically harvested in August (funny enough, the fish used to be “harvested” from lakes at this time of year, too.
Some associations and correspondences may change year to year depending on the constellation the Sturgeon Moon appears in, but in general it is a moon dedicated to strength. Female sturgeons can live for 150 years! The males are pretty long-lives too, hanging around for at least half a century.
This moon, associated with harvest, can also be seen as a starting point for the transition from summer to fall. While you enjoy the power of the late summer thunderstorms, also be preparing to enjoy the warm and cozy feelings coming with early fall.
