What happened & are u okay? Ive had a similar situation and complete panick took over. My brain knew what to do but my body couldnt move....

Quick trigger warning before I get into it. It involves a drug overdose.

I was just at home watching tv with my partner and I hear screaming coming from outside. I run out and my neighbour had a friend over and they decided to do heroin together. Her friend collapses and stops breathing. Neither of them have a phone so it wasn’t until we get there that 000 is called. Neighbour says she’s been out for 10 minutes. We help with cpr and I’m looking for narcan but I’ve never been around drugs before so I don’t even know what I’m looking for. I run out to flag down the ambulance. She doesn’t make it.

We had police come and I took my neighbour into my home so they could take our statement and the detectives could do their job looking around the house it happened in.

After they left my neighbour goes back and her friend is right near the door but she’s not allowed back in her house so she’s just sitting there staring at her friend. I sit with her because I couldn’t bring myself to leave her alone. Some police were still there waiting for the coroner but still.

It took so long for them to arrive to take her and now I’m so worried about my neighbour. I’ve taken the day off work and I’ll probably go and check on her later today but just coming to terms with the fact that we tried to save someone’s life last night and failed.

Police said we’ll get a call from a help line at some point. It’s just a lot and so unexpected.

Today was probably the second most traumatic experience of my life and I don’t even know how to act. The police told me I’ll get a call from someone soon to help but I feel like my main concern is the other people involved. Like I feel like my energy is going towards trying to help others. I don’t know I’m just scared someone else is going to die and this day is repeated.

I learned that in an emergency I freeze. I really didn’t think I’d react like that but I guess how could you know until you go through it?

Maybe it will fully hit tomorrow but right now I’m being the shoulder for people to cry on. Maybe it’s for the best. Like a purpose? I don’t know.
