They didn’t have powdered sulfur but they did have fennel and lemongrass for $.50 each so #winning
Bought my brother a gummy cheeseburger, he opens it and says “oh no, there’s lettuce on it”
Ok I’m going to pick up powdered sulfur today, get nest boxes cleaned then sprayed with elector, and tomorrow I’m going to lock everyone out of the coop and shut the doors and window to hopefully cook the mites. It’s supposed to get into the low 90s tomorrow and the coop gets toasty.
Elector psp is supposed to be the holy grail for mites but despite spraying our flock several of times, the whole coop, cleaning the bedding, spraying again and again we still have them. Pulled the broody hen out this morning and they're still alive and crawling on her. It's not something they're supposed to be able to build immunity to like ivermectin or pyrethrin, maybe those mites are dying but it sure doesn't feel like it. Just at my wits end with this and starting to understand why some people cull their whole flocks when they get mite infestations. I'm not going to, but I understand.
I called Toad's vet to see about getting a prescription med that's added to the water and recently got approved for fowl, hopefully I hear back soon.

I killed like 5 birds with one stone at the vet yesterday:
Got the boys booster rescheduled (had previously canceled it bc I needed breathing room to figure out if their future would be with me)
Got Juniper's meds upped and refilled
Kitten got first shots
Made next appointment for Kitten
Got revolution + prescribed for all the kitties

Roomies cat keeps sneaking in the room and trying to steal the kittens food, even going so far as to grab it piece by piece through the bars of the kitten’s crate. When stopped, she makes the most angry growl meows that are so out of character for her
Everytime we pick up the kitten she farts
We sprayed the girls again with elector because I keep fucking finding mites on me (they’re not biting me, they’re bird mites, but I suspect having scabies for months as a kid supercharged my immune system against mites so I’m getting hives).
We did a much more aggressive spraying of the girls and the coop. one of our yellows has been broody and unbreakable for weeks now which means she’s not leaving the nest to dustbath very often. Normally for mites we spray around the cloaca because that’s where this species congregates but she’s been off dustbathing so long they had crawled up onto her face. She didn’t appreciate being given a pesticide bath but anemia is worse.

I can be normal about the grocery store I’m shopping at having signs calling it Sidney meadows despite there no longer being meadows here. There’s horse farms quickly being replaced by overpriced apartments. The creek here has spent the last century trapped in a small culvert that blocked anadromous fish travel.
I can be normal about seeing a sign for a “working forest” named McEwan prairie forest, when there’s no longer prairie and instead a monoculture of skinny Douglas firs that burn every few years, as the area was meant to, just to be replaced by more Douglas firs.
I can be normal about the photo of a little fragment of camas meadow taken in the mid 70s that’s now a Christmas tree farm with non native firs.

I love having to go to urgent care to get my prescription filled because I’m not allowed to pay for my usual prescription like I usually do out of pocket because the prescribing doctor doesn’t take Medicaid and all the paperwork that can be filed to get around that is at least 3 months backed up.
