Qrow sighed. And so it began. He was curious how his sister would field these questions, all of which were extremely fair but also rather difficult.
âWhen I left the vault, the bond to your father was the only one I had to get out of Haven. He found me.â Her tone said there was a hell of a lot more to that story, but she didnât elaborate. âA few days later I went to see what had become of my tribe since Salem knew where the camp was, although I had no intention of returning to them. I finished burying them when I knew Tai was in danger.â She sank back against the wall a little bit more, her composure as brittle as heâd ever seen it. The last few weeks had definitely not been kind to his sister.
âAnd youâre still here becauseâŚ?â Still, after the last nineteen years, Qrow wasnât exactly feeling merciful, especially not when Yang was the one who wanted answers. Though he was impressed Raven was actually giving straight answers for once. Raven gave him a cutting look. âYou forget, Raven, Iâm not afraid of you.â Heâd been afraid for her, but never of her.
âIâm here because your father wants me to be.â
Qrow was willing to admit that there were some aspects of this better addressed by Tai.
âIâve told you about your motherâs bonds⌠and after being on a team with her for years I still remembered the sound of one of her portals opening and I chased her down.â Tai smiled slightly. âFinished what you started in smashing her denials⌠but I couldnât just leave her out in the cold and even after all this time⌠after everythingâŚâÂ
âShe can feel powerful things from people sheâs bonded to and it gave her enough of a warning that she portaled back before that scorpion bastard dragged me off to be bait or a pawn or something and got both of us to your uncle to save⌠well⌠what was left of me.â He smiled in dark amusement, glancing at the place where the sheet was flat. He wasnât as calm about the loss of his leg as he would have liked to be. All in all it was a small price to pay compared with falling directly into Salemâs clutches, but Yang of all people would understand how much adjustment heâd need to make to adapt.Â
Tai locked eyes with their daughter, giving her hand a squeeze and meeting her eyes solemnly. âIâm still in love with your mother. I know⌠I know it will take time for you to know her⌠if you want to. There are reasons she left us⌠why youâve grown into a huntress without knowing her at all⌠but I understand that these are probably just excuses to you. I⌠I wonât force you to give her a chance, sweetheart, you get to make your own decisions and decide what youâre comfortable with, but I hope you can accept that I want her back in my life.â Tai pulled Yangâs hand to his mouth, kissing it before letting go, not wanting to force her to stay if she needed her space.Â
He glanced over at Raven, his eyes full of an emotion Yang probably hadnât seen there since Summer died. There was no doubt that he loved his daughters with every fiber of his being, but that look said that he was still in love with Raven.Â
The look he threw at Qrow was a little more panicky, since letting go of Yangâs hand had left him without contact and none of them needed him to have a full anxious meltdown right now.Â
The âscorpion bastardâ was lucky her mother had gotten to him first Yangâs real hand went over her false arm. It wasnât easy to be taken from like that she was still adjusting her fingers gripping the metal. She had to stand up when her father released her hand. She didnât want to leave him in this state and she wasnât going to run away that wasnât her job but she needed to stand and breath. Because well frankly, this wasnât fair to her in the slightest. What was she supposed to say? Itâs okay? It wasnât. Ask him to make her leave? When he had that look on his face, not a chance.
For some reason Yang couldnât fathom he was still in love with her mother. A thought raced to her head, what about Summer? Her mind started to chase it away but, it stuck. What about Summer, what about Ruby, what about the woman who had truly been her mother? Or at least tried to be...she knew her bitterness at Summer for âleavingâ was weaker. Sheâd been killed doing what she thought was right there wasnât much Yang could hang onto to feel genuinely angry with her not anymore.
However, Raven, her BLOOD mother, that was an entirely different story.
No this wasnât fair in the slightest to Yang, yet, when had anything ever been? Not to mention it pricked at her, she came back for her FATHER not Yang, no matter what sheâd tried to get through her motherâs thick skull Raven still ran away from HER. She didnât resent her father but it stung her personally. It wasnât a bite Yang could ignore.
âWhat are you all expecting me to say? Totally different things I bet, but, I donât know what Iâm SUPPOSED to say here...â there was plenty she WANTED to say however, she was far too matured and weathered by the world to be so selfish to voice them right out...not when her dad was sitting there like that. Lost.
It made her sick but, he needed her mom right now...maybe more than he needed her and that made Yang absolutely sick to her stomach.
