Qrow raked a hand through his hair, feeling like his world was turned upside down yet again for the millionth time in less than a month. Raven stood on the other side of the room, her arms wrapped around herself, Tai’s overlarge hoodie making her look smaller than normal. But then, she seemed... broken, in general. More uncertain of herself than he’d seen her in years, since the day they’d decided to leave the tribe behind them.
“Why are you here?” Despite his anger at her, despite the bitterness and resentment that had brewed over the years, his voice was calm, and it was a relief to see that she was alright.
“You and I need to have a talk,” she replied.
“How’s Tai?” He nodded at the hoodie.
“Fine. Anxiously waiting to see if I’ll return.”
“Will you?” He couldn’t help his tone. She nodded. “Is it because you have nowhere else to go?”
She at least had the grace to look away, some guilt in her expression. “I don’t know... When I went there initially that was why. Now... I don’t know. I don’t know a lot of things.”
“Well, that makes two of us.”

It was cold.
The icy wind bit at her skin, but Ruby did not falter. She couldn’t, not here, not now. She could do this. She had to do this. Her friends, her family, all the people she cared about.... they must be protected and she had to keep them safe at all costs.
Taking care of the Grimm was easy, at first. Extending Crescent Rose into its scythe and dispatching them didn’t even make her break a sweat. Even as their numbers increased, she could do this, she could handle it. She told Qrow he could trust her, that she would be able to hold her own and she wasn’t going to let him down. Her boots crunched down snow with each step, her breath coming out in a puff of white smoke.
It was cold.
She was a blur of red, cutting down Grimm, telling herself to stay steady, steady, gripping the handle of her scythe even as the cold spread to her fingertips, there was no room for errors. Ruby knew what she was doing. She’d come so far. Her group had come so far and they could overcome anything.
What she couldn’t understand though was how long it was taking to clear out the Grimm. They wouldn’t stop, crashing through the trees, howling to the moonlight as they approached. She fought, refusing to acknowledge how tired she was getting. She didn’t stop even when Crescent Rose grew slightly heavier in her hands. This wasn’t.... something wasn’t right, even when she started using her silver eyes to thin them out, they were overrunning the forest.
Ruby was blindsided by a boarbatusk and as she rolled to her feet with the momentum she was suddenly she was fighting someone bigger, someone stronger. She tried to put distance between herself and her new opponent, but a fist closed around her cape and swung, slamming her into a tree. Her aura crackled red in warning, and she gasped for lost air, struggling to get back to her feet.

The mission had seemed a simple one, something Summer and Qrow had agreed to wheedle him into taking, though Summer still came along. Tai couldn’t really blame them. Raven leaving had... well... he hadn’t dealt with it well. At times he thought it was fairly hypocritical of Qrow to criticize for his use of alcohol to dull the awfulness of it all but Qrow continued nevertheless.
The mission concerned a number of strange disappearances in several small villages near a central marsh rich in rare plants and good hunting. The mission had been to investigate and see if there was a Grimm responsible for this rise in strange disappearances.
Tai had found a horse wandering as he scouted his portion of the marsh for signs of Grimm activity. It looked far too well bred and groomed to not have run away from some farm where it was well taken care of and he had tried to rig a halter with his belt to lead it to the nearest village since he’d yet to see any sign of Grimm and he might as well contribute this to the unfortunate villagers.
Everything had gone wrong as soon as he laid a hand on its shoulder. His body had leaped up onto its back and the horse galloped directly into the nearest body of water, plunging in and dragging him down as well before he had time for more than a brief shout.
Tai had fought. Of course he had fought. Fought to breathe. Fought to get away. His hands were stuck fast, somehow, and something about the horse dug into him, grabbing ahold of his very soul and dragging it out of him as he screamed and struggled, his desperate fighting showing only as a cascade of bubbles popping on the surface of the churned up and muddy water.
By the time it had taken its first meal from him, he floated passively up to the surface, lungs mostly filled with water and soul consumed. Tai washed ashore on the ripples, unresponsive as sharp teeth dug into him and the Grimm started on its second course.

Blake’s ears flicked, her gaze sliding over to the older woman. “Because eventually you’ll get caught.”

It had been jarring to hear about her father being so suddenly involved in all this. He was on patch, safe away from it all. However, it shouldn’t have been so surprising nowhere was sacred, nor that now that they had a relic he be used against them. However, her and Ruby had hardly gotten that information before suddenly he was in the hospital...because someone had saved him and killed his captor.
Yang’s mom. Apparently she’d returned to patch...there was just too much going on in her head right now. But, she was coming to see him she didn’t believe it, she wouldn't believe it unless she saw her mom there. Yang had come alone, this, she needed to see this herself Ruby could visit dad later...not now. The blonde shoved the doors open and...there they were on a hospital bed together, it stung. She was back? Just like that?
Of course the blonde was grateful she’d rescued her father happy he was...more or less safe. Happy the bastard who’d got his jollies out of taking pieces of her father was dead yet, she stood there gaping at the two. How could they just...after everything she did they almost looked like a normal couple...how could dad be happy with that?
She couldn’t.
“So it really is true.” she wasn’t sure if either would stir at her words yet, she did very little to keep her voice down.

This one was not a surprise. The woman was terrorizing the countryside of Anima with her bandit tribe. People were dying. Villages were burning. Grimm hordes were everywhere.
It was a mission that would require deep cover. Deeper cover then Nikia. Her best bet was to get the woman’s interest-that she might want to recruit Winter somehow, not just Winter wanted to join the band. The woman valued strength above all else. Survival. So. It was time to create a cover of some form that would draw her attention.
It so happened the answer was to be a Schnee-just not herself.
To create a ‘fourth’ Schnee, not even a Schnee, but a Bastard, an illegimate child of Winter’s mother from a secret affair by an unknown father.
Dove Whitewater was born. She was woman with a devil-may-care outlook on a world that hadn’t done her any favors. Rude, crude, and often lewd. A dagger was slapped to her hip, a belt of throwing knives over her chest, and no other weapons visible. She was a mercenary, who’d only ask one question if you offered a job: how much.
(That was usually her get out of jail free card, if a job disturbed her too much: they weren’t offering enough).
No tight bun. No fancy uniform. White hair redone to remove the side swept bangs. Hair kept short, but curly. And letting out all the anger she had ever contained was just part of ‘Dove’s’ personality.
It wasn’t all that hard to find out where Raven’s tribe’s territory was. It was making circles within local less then savory characters, and finding out where they wouldn’t wander.
And wandering just over the edge and making camp.

Ruby had walked around Haven with Jaune all day almost and come evening she still found herself on her own looking around the girl frowned. Something felt off her aura was flickering inside her in a way she’d learned only meant danger she stood and looked around but found nothing but some birds in the trees. The little huntress considered just going back inside and going to bed whatever it was wasn’t making any moves to attack her.
Yet, if she did that what if the intentions were sinister in some other way to harm the school and people around her rather than herself Ruby didn’t like this at all. Her hand reached reflexively back for Cresent Rose as kept her eyes moving and finally called out.
“Who’s there?”
