Good day everyone, I came to say that I have been awakened from my mental slumber this years by one song and one song only and it's this one.
I want this playing in the background every time I move, please and thank you.
Somebody needs to reboot and kickstart my brain because the last reboot deleted panic mode and I need panic mode to prepare for my exams because gut-wrenching, heart-stopping panic is my only fuel.
*gets absolutely nothing done* well time for a break
Is it not enough to intensely daydream a fanfic in painful, emotional and visual detail constantly for over a week? Must I also convert it to doc/word format as well?
I am begging the world to understand that friendship is a legitimate form of love that is not diminished by the lack of a romantic relationship and it deserves to be celebrated for what it is.
Watch a movie or series for too long and you start adopting the main character's personality. Like, damn, don't you have one of your own?
ill figure it out <- common utterance of a girl who is completely fucked
Been getting The Untamed recommended an unhealthy (and frankly suspicious) amount of times lately, so I caved and started watching. As of now, this is my main takeaway:

I just... getting AO3 email notifications is always an instant seratonin button. But I dunno how to explain that--
Seeing people's names again in kudos is like being blessed with generational honor.
Watching people binge kudos/comment is like riding a roller coaster again and again and screaming with the little kid who's riding it for the first time and experiencing their adrenaline vicariously through them.
Word vomit screaming and other unintelligble reactions wake me up and throw little party hats in my head.
Return commenters are like seeing your friends and giving them high fives and hugs whenever you pass each other.
Quoting direct lines and telling me your feelings make me feel like a real author.
Analyzing and hypothesizing and connecting the dots makes my heart burst in thinking someone is putting the effort in reading as I put into writing a piece.
People working through their own struggles through themes I've written makes me feel human, like I'm a golden thread who had the honor of intersecting your life.
I actually get literal quantifiable energy when people write me essays.
Anyway, all that to say, being an author on AO3 gives me a joy I didn't know I could experience, you all make me very happy to be here, and I want you to know how important you are, I love you all so dearly 💕
wolfe telling the archivist the most insane story he can think up to try to misdirect him and it turning out to be true and totally blowing the brightwells' cover and dashing their plan has to be one of THE most terrible ironic tragic things ever to happen
Just so y’all know: I can’t speak for every other fic author but I can say that I remember when people leave me kind comments. I recognize your urls and/or usernames on AO3. I remember you and sometimes in writing my fics I think to myself, “Oh, I hope this person sees this because they liked x in this other fic I did.”
Not only that—I go back and reread comments when I’m feeling low. I look at tags and reblogs and asks and wish I could hold them in my hand like a note from a friend on an old, torn piece of notebook paper.
Your comments have so much more impact than you know. So thanks to those who use the comment section to spread love and encouragement. We appreciate you.
How do words word? How do ideas turn into pieces of art? How do I surpass 2/10 execution? What am I missing?
Patience, audacity, and maybe caffeine.
Woah there, that's asking for too much. (Somebody sell me some patience, I am desperate.)
I have a more serious answer than that, if you want XD
Consider me intrigued :D
1). You can only improve with practice. Or, rather, the more you write, the better you get. It's going to take time, it's going to take effort, and it's going to be giving yourself a lot of grace, but you will get better with each piece you work on. Have patience! Rome wasn't built in a day and your writing empire isn't going to burn in one.
2). Write with audacity, write for yourself, write to just get the words out, etc, etc. Audacity may simply not hyper-focusing on the fact that your skill level now can't spin the art you want to yet. I've been writing for years but I still have some ideas that I either have to chip away at slowly or I'm waiting longer to write them because I don't feel like I have the proper words to spin it into art. Just do it.
3). Going slow is not bad.
I'll repeat it.
Going slow is not bad.
Everyone writes at a different paces at different times. It used to frustrate me when I would only write a couple hundred words compared to someone else's four or five hundred words in the same time span (The writers I was around at that time were also creating a toxic environment that was more numbers than story based as being a measurement of success. While that works as approach for some people, in the long run it is not a healthy thing to push onto others as the saving grace to all writing styles. Anyways. Neither here nor there.). And honestly, you probably will go slow in the beginning. You'll have things you're working on that go so slow in trying to get the words to work that you'll want to tear your hair out. But it's okay! I have times where I go slow now because there's just no other way to paint this particular work into being. There's beauty in the process and sometimes that process is a slow as the tortoise and other times it's as fast as the hare, but in the end they both cross the line.
4). You aren't going to be pleased with everything you write. In fact, you might downright hate it. And that's okay. But don't let it turn into self-loathing. No one puts out 100% perfect work 100% of the time. I have fics that I've thrown out there that I haven't looked at since I've written them because I can't stand them because they threaten to make me cringe my way out of my skin. I have a series that was such an immense pain to write by the time I finished it that I only go back to look at it as a reference to see what I did previously with a certain magic element. One or two or five bad works is not a reflection on your writing as a whole. And sometimes you got to get the crummy writing out of the way first before you can get to the less-crummy and wait a second is this actually good oh crap it is writing.
5). Know yourself and your writing habits. The jokes about coffee and tea and writing with music (or not) hold some truth to them. Everyone has different environments that work for them, different variations on those environments when one doesn't work out, but try some things out! While I don't recommend the three shots of pure espresso in the span of four hours and writing 20k words in the span of a weekend when you have five sort of major assignments due by Sunday way, a nice coffee or hot chocolate or mug of tea can work just as well. Or water. Definitely stay hydrated, folks. Writing is hard and you'll thank yourself for the hydration later.
Writing is a craft and that craft takes time to master and improve on. I won't direct you towards youtube to look for specific writing advice, or even writing books by authors that tote their advice as the best advice, because while those can be helpful, I find them to be restricting and unhelpful to my methods of writing. That might not be the case for you. In fact, take my advice with a grain of salt, it's not catch all, one size fits all, do or die advice. But do be wary of those that say my way is the only way and if you don't do it my way, you're wrong and are going to do badly. Tis simply not true.
That was perhaps a bit of an excessively long post and I apologize it took me so long to get to this. Have a potato...and have fun!!!
Massive thank you for the advice (and for the potato) :D

also me: due to my personal reasons i will now completely detach myself from reality, sit in my bedroom and contemplate existence for four (4) hours straight.
Ah, I see you have chosen the noble path of the philosopher.
