"I have gained a clear understanding of my place in the universe. Of who I am. Starscream: aligned with no side, servant to no one."

Spamton wafted the sheet of shiny gold stickers back and forth so the lighting bounced off of it. His assumptions had been correct for once; those big eyes were easily drawn to sparkly things. Mentally, he filed that discovery away for later use.
The urge to beckon Ash-Sleigh Mentos closer and firmly tap him on the head for his continued hostility was strong, but by now, he knew if he dared, the clone would have a mental breakdown and if not, the rest would by proxy. Hopefully his next trick would work.
* THESE ARE [Good Noodle] [[Star]]S. THEy 'RE FOR... * [Commemorating] uH- [Important Contributions] TO [[The Cause]]. [The Cause] OF BE1NG A [[Good Boy]]. * THE 1 WITH [Top Of The Scoreboard] IS THE GOODEST [Boy]. IF YOU LOOSE ALL YOUr [Star]S... THEN.
He paused for dramatic effect, knowing the suspense would likely grab their attention. This was important. The consequences had to be laid out bare and clear for them, lest the fear and anxiety mutate into something that had no business in being there.
* THEN 0 THING [[Hapen]]S. 0 THING AT ALL. * THE [Strings Attached] IS THAT YOU GET [[More]] FOR HAVING!! It 'S A [[Sign Up Today For Our Rewards System And Save Big!]]!! * 1ST ONE IS [Free]!!
Processor fans whirring at full, confident tilt, Spamton plops down on his butt in the dust and pulls out a piece of chalk from his apparent Feather Dimension. Busily, he scrawls each of their names down on the board and- making sure they can clearly see what he is doing- awards each of them a single sticker.
The entire pack of Starscreams was mesmerised by the sparkle of the stickers, watching them intently with the barely-restrained urge to grab the shiny thing. Spamton was only a few enticing sticker-wiggles away from being unintentionally mauled by twelve hands that craved the shiny.
"So you mean to say this is little more than a distraction. Contributions to a frivolous cause. Something they may finally succeed at."
"Cease your whining. Recognition is recognition."
The dramatic pause worked as intended. The terror on each seeker's face gradually grew more prominent as they each cycled through every possible consequence. If he expected them to accumulate many of these stars, then surely losing them all wouldn't be taken lightly. A punishment for disappointing him repeatedly.
The punishment was nothing.
The terror was gone. They now exchanged glances of confusion and uncertainty.
"...that can't be right. There is always something as an incentive to not fail. Not that I insist you add one. I simply find it an... interesting decision."
"Who is to say he isn't lying? There may still be consequences. He is simply electing to keep them hidden, so that he may spring them on us once we believe there is nothing to fear."
"That seems redundant. Odd as it may be, I believe there truly is nothing."
They all squinted at the board as Spamton scrawled names on it, trying to determine which was which. They had only heard the names spoken, and reading local writing still proved a challenge at times.
"So what exactly merits receiving one of these badges of honour? Your hopes appear to be very high."
Spamton had been busy. He wasn't quite sure where the former inhabitants of the Harbinger went to sleep, confused by most of what he saw while in the derelict vessel, so he had stole his way into the chamber the protoforms had been kept in and had gone to work.
The walls and ceiling (as well as parts of Spamton) were painted a bright, cheery blue, with white puffy clouds interrupting the monotony. On the ceiling, a yellow sun had been painted. The floor was strewn thickly with dried grasses, shed feathers, stolen socks and any other soft item he could find. Paws sifted through the litter and fluffed it up. Nice and soft.
He hoped the Starscreams would appreciate his efforts.
Starscreams flooded into the room. It was impossible to recognise as the cloning lab it had once been. The floor was soft beneath their feet and the walls were brighter than the dull, dusty interior they'd gotten used to. It looked like--
"The sky?"
"Earth's sky, but yes."
The six of them scattered, the room growing loud with incomprehensible muttering and chirping. Some looked at the art more closely, while others took interest in the soft materials on the ground. Sunkist in particular seemed to enjoy the latter, burrowing into them to hide. His wings still stuck out. He didn't seem to notice.
For once, they were all in agreement over something. The arguing had come to a halt, for now.
"These are unlike any quarters I have known, but I would consider them an improvement over anything I have seen in recent times. They will do just fine."
He tried to sound unphased by the room, but the flap of his wings and faltering voice gave away how emotional he truly was about the gesture. The room had been decorated specifically for him. Many hims, but still.
It would be a mess by the end of the week.
He had done his best to avoid harming any of them, but lo and behold, they had all started freaking out anyway. Spamton's jaw parted a crack in muted astonishment at how quickly every last clone had been set on edge. Worse was how badly Sproot had reacted. Spamton swallowed the slightly exasperated sigh that was trying to escape. Well that was just pathetic. Not even his own hatchlings reacted this way! He stared down at Sproot's display and frowned with pity. The sigh eventually broke free and slipped between his teeth as he reached down to try and gently pat Sproot's helm in attempt to make amends for the grievous crime.
He had to remind himself that while he did see them sparked to life, they nevertheless inherited the original's memories, including whatever scarring treatment he had received at Megatron's hands.
* EVERY 1 SHOULD [[Hey, Listen!]]! ON THE [Naughty List]. * SORRY FOR [Ow! Stop! It Hurts!], BUT NO [[FIGHT]]ING. 0 [Approaching Enemy]S IN [[The Nest]]. * [[SAVE]] IT FOR THE [Big Bad Evil Guy]!!
No less developed that Starscream, but no more so, either. The original was pulled closer with his free hand and the scratches gently brushed over with a fingertip to gauge their depth, to make certain he wasn't as hurt as he looked. Nothing he couldn't buff out.
Gears turned in his mind. He pulled his hand away to rub at his chin in deep thought. Clearly, they required an even more gentle approach than his own hatchlings did. And whatever he did, he had to make sure it wouldn't cause them to all start fighting each other out of envy. He started rummaging around in the subspace pocket of his plumage.
* WOn 'T [Boink] AGAIN. * [Second Opinion]... IF YOU ARE VERY, VERY [[Good Boy]], YOU GET... THESE-
There was no telling where he got the little star-shaped stickers. Or the board he planned on sticking them to.
* [[Good Noodle]] GET TH3SE. [Bad Bird, Baaad Biiiirrrd] LOSING. GET MANY, I GIVE [Extra Credit Bonus] DELICIS [[Blue]]! * ACCEPT THE [Deal]??
Being pet seemed to placate Sproot. Unfortunately, as he calmed down, gears began to turn in his horrible little head. He could see now that his reaction had been unnecessarily pathetic. But Spamton so far had proven very susceptible to such behaviour. It made him spare Starscream and pet Sproot. It all came down to deciding whether Sproot valued what was left of his dignity or the positive attention more. For now the latter was winning. He remained on his knees, head in perfect petting range.
Ash-Sleigh Mentos looked increasingly disappointed at the state of Sproot. The way the original was treating the world's lightest scratches wasn't much better.
"No enemies? I see plenty. Perhaps you should have allowed them to continue fighting. Ridding ourselves of the weakest of us certainly wouldn't hurt."
"You have made no valuable contributions. You can be the first to go."
"At this rate there won't be any of us left to face the Decepticons. We should take it as a sign we are better off remaining here. We are likely overestimating our chances."
Starscream was very brave about Spamton checking his wounds, only looking a little panicked. As much as he was playing up their severity, he was internally relieved that the scratches didn't require medical attention. He didn't want to face Judas again. When Spamton pulled the hand away he straightened out and reassumed his position next to the smaller mech, trying not to look too disappointed.
All bickering once again stopped as the shine of the stickers caught the optics of every seeker in the room. Stars. Shiny stars. Their earlier horror seemed already forgotten as they crowded around for a closer look. Wings wiggled and crashed into each other.
"...what are these meant to be, exactly?"
"A reward of some kind. The long overdue recognition for my achievements."
"Our achievements."
"We will accept your--"
"Wait. These can be earned and lost. Earning them grants us extra energon. So what is the catch here? What do you intend to do if we lose all of them?"
Offering Starscream a peanut. I have a challenge for you! A sequel to The Walnut. Can YOU find the nut? This one is tricky.
Another one of these things. A terrible curse. He never ended up properly figuring the last one out... at least this one was free.
He takes the peanut between two claws. It wasn't as hard as the walnut. Maybe he could just...
He tries to stab a hole in the peanut. Tiny as the peanut is, it is crushed completely. His hand is covered in nut crumbs.
"...is this it? Seems like a pointless reward to me."
The jealousy in the room was so thick Spamton could almost impale it on the end of his beak. Tension mounted like a volcanic eruption waiting to blow. And just like that, right when Spamton thought he was on the cusp of making everything right in the world of the clones, a battle had broken out over the hands, wrought- as most wars were- over scarcity.
Spamton watched, mouth slightly agape as Starscream was usurped by Sproot and his other hand looted by Bepis, who had been lying in wait to take advantage of the turmoil and seize the spoils for himself. Now, more than ever, they really did remind him of hatchlings.
He stood up straighter, lower lip stiffening. He did not pet Sproot. Instead, he thwapped him on the back of the head with two fingers. Not enough to harm, but enough to get his attention.
* [[Sproot]]!!! NO. * BAD.
His voice rose, firm and commanding. One sharp optic swiveled around the room, casting its golden rays upon each clone in turn before finally settling on the original Starscream, scanning him up and down to survey the damage... and to inform him he was not in control here. Not right now. Spamton couldn't allow that. If he did, his new brood might tear itself apart within a week! Then, feeling some measure of remorse for his harshness, he listened to Starscream and took his hand away from Bepis and Sproot.
* ACTING LIKE [[Hatchling]]S!!! * STOP. OR 0 [Body] GETS [[scritchies]]. [Patients] AND EVERY 1 CAN BE [Pit Pet Pot Pat]. * [[Deal]]?? SO [Easy], EVEN A [Little Baby] CAN UNDERSTANDING!!
For as long as they were intent to act like petulant children, Spamton was intent on treating them that way.
Silence.
The bickering and shoving came to an abrupt halt as the fingers tapped against Sproot's head. All five observers moved as one, flinching away. The hands that had been an object of envy were now stared at in horror.
Sproot snapped around to look at Spamton, optics wide. He was uninjured, a fact which was just as clear to him as the other seekers. But where he lacked physical pain, the pain of being rejected so harshly more than made up for it. He sank to his knees, looking up at Spamton like a wounded dog.
"Forgive me for my transgressions! I never intended to cause any harm! I was merely retaliating against the hostility he started!" He pointed towards Starscream in accusation. "It's him you should be reprimanding, not me! I will be patient, I swear!"
The rest of the pack continueed to stare, though some of them now focused on Sproot rather than the terrible hand. It was bizarre, watching their own desperate begging from the outside. Ash-Sleigh Mentos looked on in disgust.
"This is difficult to watch. Get back up. He doesn't need more proof of how pathetic you are."
"And risk making him madder?"
"If he tries anything, we take him down."
"With what? The same bravery you displayed a moment ago?"
Conk seethed in silence, but didn't respond. Ash-Sleigh Mentos grinned at him.
Starscream was content to let them go back to arguing now that his leadership wasn't the topic at hand. He felt a little more confident int hat regard when Spamton retracted his hands, even if the clones were no longer interested in them. Inspection of him showed that Sproot hadn't injured him badly. The scratches were shallow, intended to shock rather than hurt. Nonetheless, he held one hand on his chest as if they hurt beyond a slight sting.
"I will admit I have lead by poor example, though to pin the entire ordeal on me alone hardly seems fair. I am not the one who introduced violence into the situation."
"I would like to remind you that we are not young organics. Though we may have not held these forms long, we are no less developed than our template. That said, our behaviour being comparable to that of 'hatchlings' is... regrettable. You can expect to not see this from me anymore."
It hadn't occurred to him until Conk spoke up that in a way, the clones had energon in them. Like cans of soda. But that did get his gears turning in a different direction. Granted, he saw the stuff leaking out when he had bitten the original Starscream, but it had slipped his mind since. But if they all had it, then he needn't dig. He could snatch a few of those robotic miners and harv--
No that was a horrible thought. The memory of Starscream cowering on the forest floor crossed his mind for the hundredth time that day. He just shook his head and sighed. Some hunter he was. Although he might have to, if times got desperate enough. For reasons that were beyond the clones' assumptions. He didn't have the heart to tell them he hadn't counted on their forging.
Spamton focused his attention on petting Sproot, grinning warmly as the other accepted the helm-stroking... up until Starscream shoved the clone away and inserted himself in their spot. A quiet gasp left him as he reached a paw back out to beckon the emotionally wounded Sproot closer again, the other paw firmly petting the Original Starscream that had made his desires plainly known. And then he noticed Sunkist and Bepis' jealous stares and found himself in a predicament.
* I... DOn 'T HAVE EN0UGH [[Hand]]S...
It was almost a whine, but it sounded more like a heartfelt confession before the altar of a cruel, judging god.
When Sproot spoke up again, he gave Starscream's plating a closer look. At first, he thought they could all just be painted like the cars he used to sell, and maybe strip it off and try again if he failed, but the more he looked, the more he realized that would probably be painful for them. His petting hand instinctively became far steadier, almost surgically so.
* I WOn 'T BE [Messy] WITH [[New Paint Job]]!! [Hatchlings], CAREFULL, [[Fragile]]!! * NEEDING [Skincare]? * I W1LL [[Learning]], ONLY THE [TopRated] [Medical] FROM YOUr PAL, SPAMTON G. SPAMTON!! NO [[PAIN]] IN [This Good Nest]!!
Starscream's regret only intensified by the minute. During all his clone-related scheming, not once had he accounted for the possibility he would find an ally in that time. Not just any ally either. One that treated him well. And like an idiot, he had forced himself into sharing that attention. Spamton couldn't treat all six of them fairly. He was already struggling. In time, he would pick a favourite to focus his favour on while the others would be lucky to be acknowledged at all. Starscream had seen it before. He would simply have to make sure he was the favourite. Most of the others seemed to have caught onto this already. Conk and Ash-Sleigh Mentos would regret putting their pride first when they realised what was at stake.
Sproot eyed the outstretched paw, then the very smug Starscream being pet by the other. He could feel Bepis and Sunkist creeping closer behind him. He rejected the hand offered to him and instead opted for the petty option of ever so slightly scratching up the freshly-polished Starscream and taking his spot while he was distracted. The other hand was quickly snatched up by Bepis.
"Never mind being careful with their plating, look at what they have done to mine! What is with this insubordination?"
"You started it. Besides, I happen to find the matter of our plating being properly cared for quite important. Thank you, Spamton."
Conk began to also approach, though he seemed more enticed by the drama than the petting. The fact his concerns about their energon being drank were never put to rest did not help.
"Perhaps we would be better off under new leadership."
"If one of us switched places with you here and now, who would know?"
"He still has glue on his aft."
"That can be fixed."
"You may have all inherited my memories, but I am the only one here with actual experience. You would all do well to remember that."
Starscream looked at Spamton, desperate to regain some kind of control here.
"Take your servos off them. Now."
His own hatchlings at least did not bicker. Quarrel, yes, often resorting to teeth, claws and little bursts of molten slag to settle their disagreements, but they weren't even half this noisy. All the while, he tried to keep up with each voice. If they were truly like hatchlings, this was a crucial bonding moment. It was at this stage that they ought to imprint on him properly. If all went well, he would be able to sleep at night without fear of those talons ripping into him as he rested.
If not...
* It 'S [[Soda]]!! [Earth] DRINK. SINCE YOU [Like and Suscribe] TO THE [Smooth, Refreshing Taste Of] [[energon]]. WH1CH [[Lookalike]]!! * NOT [Rude Dude], I [Pinky Promise]!! * TOO [[My Precious...]] FOR THAT!!
When Sproot pushed himself to the front of the pack, Spamton reached a paw out to gently brush it against the clone's helm, to make his point clear. The original didn't seem to mind when he did it earlier and Sproot seemed even more receptive.
He knew he was getting too attached already and that Starscream clearly did not feel the same about them as he did. But he wasn't going to fight his instincts. They revealed too much about Starscream and realization was slowly dawning on him that the seeker was trying to deliberately distance himself from his creations already.
* CAN [[Choose Your OWN]] [PAIN]T!! I CAN GET A NY [Colore] YOU WANT! * EVEN [Greem], TO HIDDEN AMONG THE [Leaf]S!! * I 'M SOMETH1NG OF A/n [Artiste]!! I WOn 'T BE [[Messy]]!! * EVERY 1 WILL BE [[Pretty Bird, Pretty Biiiirrrrd]]!!
It didn't even cross his mind that they were meant to be disposable, so caught up as he was in his own plans.
The names were drinks. This information was met with quiet muttering among the clones and a raised brow from Starscream. Conk was the first one to speak up. The source of the names seemed to do little to soothe him.
"So that is how you view us? You intend to drain us of our energon after all. More of us means more for you."
"I refuse to believe I am meant to be the same mech as someone this dense. He can already find all the energon he wants. Bringing us into the equation only serves to make things harder for him. How could this possibly be beneficial?"
"Simple. It isn't just about the energon. He is a hunter. It only stands to reason he derives some form of enjoyment from the whole process."
While Sproot had pushed forward, Conk and Sunkist were content to put the others between themselves and Spamton. Sunkist cowered at the rear of the pack, with Conk slightly in front solely so his periodic wing-flicking could still be seen.
After the initial shock of having a hand put on him, Sproot was predictably content with the gesture, going so far as to bow to make his head easier to reach. More muttering from the seekers behind him. Ash-Sleigh Mentos rolled his optics, while Sunkist and especially Bepis watched with a slight newfound hostility. They were jealous.
This reaction seemed to be shared by Starscream. He could feel a hint of the warmth in Sproot's chest. It was absurd. He was envious of himself. But he was the original, Spamton's attention was meant to be on him. His own wings raised high, he swatted at Sproot, who quickly backed off. As if to prove a point, Starscream stood closer to Spamton, almost leaning against him.
Sproot didn't approach again and was visibly upset, but tried to retain his enthusiasm about the paint.
"It may be some time before I am ready to be painted. This will take careful consideration. Paint can be stripped and reapplied, but I dread to think of the damage that would cause. The first attempt must be perfect. i deserve nothing less."
He had heard the Original make this sound before, so it was time for an experiment. He approaches the collection of clones, taking a breath before speaking to them in their own voice.
* [Merp Merp Merp]
A moment of silence as all of them listened. They processed.
All hell broke loose. They all began repeating the sound back at him, each one of them completely out of sync with the others. One Starscream was loud. Five of them created a wall of sound. Each individual merp was impossible to pick out. After a while they seemed to begin to merp at each other in an endless loop.
No more peace. Only MERP.
Now that they were out and about, flicking their wings and staring at him, he felt strangely more at ease. More, but not completely. It was difficult to be completely relaxed, knowing he was indeed outnumbered. By the point, he was now starkly aware of the duplicitous creature(s) he was isolated with.
But at the same time, he felt like he had a firmer grasp of the situation than Starscream (the first) did. For as much as he called them copies, he was already starting to pick out individual traits among them. Their wingspeak alone told him as much, if not their bickering reactions. A more genuine smile crept across his face. They were like hatchlings! There was still the nagging fear of the absolute ordeal of keeping them all fueled and alive, but for now, he allowed himself to enjoy the new life in front of him.
* THANK YOU!! MAYBE EVEN [Paint Job] THEM LATER. JUST TO MAKE IT [[Easymode]]. * CAn 'T JUST SAID [Lord Starscream], ALL OF THEM W1LL [Come Running]. THAt 'S JUST [[Chaos, Chaos]]!!
He rubbed his chin with one paw, optics dimming as he studied each new clone carefully. He pointed to the first, that had threatened him, then each one next to him in turn.
* THAT 1 IS [[Conk]]. AND THEN... * THE 1 [Next In Line] IS [[Sproot]]. AND THAT 1 IS [[Bepis]]... * THAT MEAN 1... HMMM... [[Ash-Sleigh Mentos]]. AND [[Sunkist]]!! * TH3SE ARE YOUr [Name This Child]!! STILL ALL [Lord Starscream] THO!!
He stood up a bit straighter and fluffed out his feathers with pride. As far as he was concerned, he did a good job with the names; it was better than calling all of them Starscream. He already learned that lesson when trying to name all his pipis after himself. Spamton didn't dare say it out loud, but Sproot was immediately his favorite.
While he didn't dare take his eyes off the clones, lest some of them pounce, Starscream's reaction to their bickering had him raising a brow he did not have. Maybe this wasn't quite the same situation as that one sheep... but close enough with a few alien details.
The swarm gradually shifted closer as they recieved their new names. They were all still Starscream, but they were more than that too now. They were Conk, Sproot, Bepis, Sunkist and Ash-Sleigh Mentos.
"That was uncalled for. Calling me, the only one in favour of your new names, mean? And proceeding to disgrace me with the worst of them? I would almost be better off remaining Starscream."
"No need to be so dramatic. Most of these names are... fine."
"Fine on the surface, perhaps. For all we know these are Earth insults." Conk's wings remained raised high as he addressed Spamton. "Well? What derogatory connotations do they have?"
Sunkist remained quiet. He knew that if these names were insults, Spamton wouldn't tell any of them directly. He would look into it himself later.
Starscream himself seemed content to stand back and listen to the clones bicker. It was an unusual experience, understanding each of their thought processes perfectly despite them coming to different conclusions. He wasn't exactly thrilled by how much they inadvertently revealed about him, though. Best to distance himself from them.
"...then again, cloning isn't an exact science. I am familiar with the theory, but it has never been my area of expertise. These names will do a fine job of distinguishing between these copies."
He looked a bit more conflicted about the idea of painting them. He began to fear that Spamton was getting a little too attached to these ultimately disposable traitors. But on the other hand, there was something enticing about the illusion of being surrounded by a group of new seekers, even if they were all just him at their core.
"Painting them would not hurt either. Though I recommend you give them a say in the process if you expect any co-operation."
At the mention of paint, Sproot pushed to the front of the pack.
"Obviously we should get a say. I daresay new colours could be an improvement, if that is possible. But they must be done correctly. I refuse to be slathered in low quality paint."
"Agreed. If I am to leave the name Starscream behind, it only makes sense to alter my appearance to much. But having seen the names, I refuse to place responsibility over the details in servos other than my own."
"I rather enjoy the shine of the silver. But I will admit it doesn't provide the same tactical advantage as it did on Cybertron. This blasted planet is too green."

Shit! The Starscream was preying on his fear! He would have squeezed his optics shut, had he any eyelids. Unfortunately, they were forced wide open, leaving his mouth twisted in a most distressed grimace.
* NOW?!?!?!
His true voice, cracked, terrified and high-pitched rang through the Harbinger in disbelief. Starscream was doing this. He was doing this right this very second. Spamton was beholding. And he wasn't sure he liked it. Paws reached up to scrabble at the sides of his head, pulling loose feathers away. His breath hitched in his throat.
Optics flicked from one horrible contraption to the next, casting everything in a pink glow. He felt like he was in a horror movie. A scolding swear meant for Starscream crawled to the tip of his tongue, before his teeth clamped down on it. The protoforms had already taken shape and started to move. He couldn't swear in front of the children. The screaming remained internal. Very loud, but internal.
Deep breaths, he reminded himself. Deep breaths, this wasn't the worst thing to ever happen to him. It was just a... a... litter. A surprise litter of Starscreams. That happened. Stuff like this happened. He would have to focus on the more achievable problems first and deal with the Big Scary Stuff later once he had his feet back under him.
* THEy 'RE... [[Cute Baby Birds]]?? * AND THEY ALL [Same Great Taste]!! GONNA HAVE TO [Fix It]. * DO THEY HAVE [[Name This Child]] YET??
More nervous laughter. Act casual, and the worst will pass like water. Maybe. Hopefully.
Spamton only continued to provide fear, and now there were even more Starscreams to feed off of it. Six pairs of beady optics observed him, one proud, the rest judging. They had inherited what little knowledge of Spamton Starscream had so far, but were uncertain what to make of it yet. The "cute baby birds" comment seemed to help them in their judgements. Some of the seekers seemed flattered, while others rose their wings at him, offended.
"Cute? Hardly. Do you still not realise who you are talking to? Or our numbers? We can easily crush you for such belittling behaviour."
"I fail to see how we benefit from turning against our only ally. Especially not for speaking the truth. We do have a certain... charm."
"The cuteness is nothing to get hung up on. I find more fault with being compared to young organics. I'm certain you all recall why."
The five new Starscreams collectively winced at the identical memory of an image of a newborn human. The original, suffering the fate of being struck with the disgust of all the others at once, staggered away from them, standing by Spamton's side. He was beginning to have minor regrets, but refused to admit it. He instead plastered the smuggest grin he could muster on his face.
"As you can see, they have turned out perfectly. I haven't thought of any names, no. Why would I? They aren't new mechs, they are me. They are worthy of bearing my name. Though I suppose a way to differentiate between them wouldn't hurt. You may have the honour of picking these names."
The prospect of being named had the clones divided again.
"Starscream has been a perfectly fine name until now. I see no need for another."
"You fail to consider that these new names could be better. Why should we refuse a fresh start, with names that aren't synonymous with failure?"
"No need to be so harsh."
"What you fail to consider is that the names could also be worse." He scowled at Spamton. "Do not take this responsibility as a further opportunity to mock us."
He could, in theory, hijack one of their bodies. What was the difference between Starscream and any other machine? He had installed himself in the NEO Mechanism just fine... In practice, he re-imagined the cries of pain and terror from earlier and winced. He knew it was beyond him now.
That wasn't the only reason he was wincing. He knew Starscream could probably see it, in spite of his rigid face. Oh Heaven, why? He had signed up to take care of one seeker, not six of them!
* ... NOW? * RIGHT THIS [Minute]?? * I CAN [location] THE [Energon]... BUT YOU ALR3ADY [[Chug! Chug! Chug!]] SO MUCH!!! * THIS IS-- * I MEAN... [[That's A Wonderful Idea]]!!!! * EXPECT1NG 0 THING LESS OF [Pretty Princess]!!!
Spamton wrung his paws together, chuckling nervously. It was a desperate attempt to mask his fear with nefarious agreement, but it fell short of the demonic laughter from earlier. He could tell he was already in over his head and his ward was quickly taking command of things. He couldn't even tell anyone about this!
* DO I HAVE TO [[Watch And Learn]] YOU [Making Babies]?? * I MEAN-- I W1LL, IF YOU [As You Wish]!!!
Optics followed Starscream's own to the machinery. He wasn't quite sure how that doodad worked, but he knew full well that regardless of his cooperation, Starscream was going to do... whatever the hell he was going to do.
The wincing and painfully obvious fear in Spamton's voice was the final straw that made Starscream commit to going through with his plan immediately. Spamton clearly had reservations. It could be the energon, as he claimed. It could be something else. It didn't matter. Starscream wasn't going to allow himself to be stopped.
"Yes, now. I see no reason to delay. I already told you the energon will only be a temporary problem. And if we should somehow fail, which I doubt, between the seven of us I'm certain we will be more than capable of finding the energon we require."
As he spoke, he already began setting things in motion. Switches were flicked. Claws returned to tapping away at the console as the machinery began to whir to life. The awful smirk returned. It was all still functional.
"Don't call it that. And no, you don't have to watch. Though if you plan to leave, I suggest you do so quickly. I don't intend to wait for you."
True to his word, he began extracting the painfully rare energon from his arm and fed it into the machine. The wiring connected to the protoforms began sparking wildly. Starscream didn't seem fazed by this. If anything, he was thrilled by it, standing in the centre of it all and cackling as he watched it unfold.
The protoforms began to change. The white, featureless forms became silver seekers. Starscreams. So many Starscreams. The original marvelled at them as they freed themselves from the machine, leaping to the ground in one horrible swarm.
"Behold! My flawless legion!"
//I don't think I've properly mentioned it until now but one of the main changes to canon I've made for the Screamer is that not all the seekers are dead because I reject that. I would like the silly little planes to live.
Obviously not all of them survived the war, but many of them defected at some point or another. Many left before travelling to Earth, and those that remained (barring Starscream) left once they reached the planet, Skywarp and Thundercracker included. They're out there. Somewhere.
Lord Starscream, you understand your trine better than anyone else. Is it true that Skywarp springs a leak whenever he teleports?
His face lit up when his trine was mentioned. It had been years since he'd last seen them, but he still thought of them fondly. Ironically, the horrible line of enquiry only seemed to put him in a better mood. The innate seeker instinct to troll their trinemates, even if Skywarp wasn't here to witness it at the moment.
Plus shifting the focus onto Skywarp might save him from invasive questions about himself.
"Very true, unfortunately. I would believe he does it out of spite, but I'm uncertain whether he is capable of thinking that far ahead. If nothing else, I'm impressed he has managed to keep it from becoming common knowledge. Such a shame I've ruined that for him."
It was impossible to tell whether he was genuinely confirming the rumour or straight-up lying. The results were the same for him in both cases.
