Assad Zaman on working with Jacob Anderson: "I came in in the last month of filming [Season 1]. We did all of the Dubai scenes in one chunk. So he'd already been there doing Season 1, he lived Louis' life for nine months by then, I think, and he was exhausted living that life, and the night shoots. I think we started talking about it in Dubai. We were kind of like giddy kids, a little bit. We both met each other, and we were like, 'Oh, my God, dude. I'm exhausted, but this is going to be cool, right? How are we gonna do this?' It was kind of freeing, because we didn't have to think about it right then because it hadn't been written yet, but we knew it was coming. And as soon as we sort of built a rapport - he's from Bristol, I'm from Newcastle. We have a lot of similarities in where we come from and stuff. As soon as we realized this is going to be really easy, it was pals straightaway. And so then when we started Season 2, it's just easy. It's just really, really easy working with Jacob, and just being open to try and talk about things without getting too heady. My thing is sometimes I tend to overthink everything, and sort of overanalyze before I do anything. With Jacob, it was nice to not overthink things, just see how we feel in the moment and then let that dictate how the story goes."

Armand threatens Louis by saying he'll sew his head to Regina's body and it's treated as a nod to Armand sewing Claudia's head on Madeline's body in the books. But in the books he had a motive!!! It was his fucked up experiment to give Claudia an adult body and her end suffering. When that obviously didn't work he then resorted to killing Claudia, in his mind he was being kind. To make him threaten to do that to Louis without any clear motivation except to get an apology out of him made no sense

No but it’s actually so surreal to think that Louis has spent the vast majority of his vampiric existence with Armand. It’s the most significant companionship Armand has ever experienced but it’s also most of Louis’ life. Nearly eighty years. We forget he’s a pretty young vampire.

We know how Armand is doing now that it’s over (badly, he’s doing so badly) but how is Louis? Because they had a whole life together and it wasn’t all built on lies. Even if they hated each other, which they didn’t, you’d each still be so used to having the other around. That is a relationship span that is impossible for a human to experience. They will have had a routine, they would’ve had hobbies they liked to do together, little quirks that only each of them know about each other. I’d venture to say they understand one another better than anyone else in the show purely because of the sheer length of time they spent together.

How does Louis feel three years on? How did he take the break up? We only got to see his initial reaction and that was anger (understandably) but no break up is just anger. I want to know what was going on in his head for those thee years so badly. What does he miss about Armand? What does he really not miss? Outside of the obvious of course.

I want to see more of those 77 years too, and not just the terrible parts. I want to see them doing normal, boring, domestic things together. I just want to know more. The show entirely glossed over it.

"They're all monsters" is a thought terminating cliché to dismiss the fans who actually care to think about the themes of this story and real discussion of it it's the easiest possible interpretation where everyone is equally irredeemable, so the viewer can enjoy the spectacle guilt-free you don't have to sit with contradictions or question your own sympathies or be challenged by the story because it "doesn't matter" "they're all monsters anyway" "whats a bite between paramours?" as if the point was to create an indulgent nihilistic fest of empty cruelty and shock value where nothing matters and no one cares and morality is irrelevant, instead of a romantic tragedy where every character is driven by guilt, grief, love, and self-deception and haunted by their own choices and trying and often failing to live with themselves and constantly wrestling with their own conscience.

"They're all monsters" isn't a nuanced take it's an escape hatch and a refusal to engage with the story in any depth & reveals a profound discomfort with any level of moral greyness

the thing that really throws me about tvl’s approach to loumand is that the writers have seemingly forgotten how integral compromise was to their relationship. both louis and armand entered into companionship with the justification that it was the best they could do. they both bought into that distorted attachment in exchange for an end to loneliness. there was love, resentment, jealousy, and most importantly, maintenance. you don’t just stumble into 70 years of marriage on accident. are you really gonna sit here and tell me that the same armand who pruned louis’s bad memories like weeds and completely rewrote san francisco (all to maintain the peace of their already rocky marriage) would give a shit about something like unrequited love? he knows louis resents him! it’s just so wild that they’ve taken this concept of unconditional, fairytale romance and made it the arbiter of what does and does not count as love between characters. so toothless.
