Bayonetta 3 - Boycott, Don’t Boycott
26 Oct edit - So it appears what happened was:
- Hellana Taylor was paid £3000 for voicing Bayonetta in Bayonetta 1, bit more for Bayonetta 2.
- 10 000 USD was the initial offer for 3, she asked for higher. 15 000 USD was a second offer, second offer was turned down.
- Then a final offer of 4000 USD for a small cameo was made, and also turned down.
So the real argument that was supposed to have been made was, are these numbers above, especially for Bayonetta 2, fair for Voice Actors in the gaming industry, when gaming franchises tracked success? But sadly, hardly anyone’s interested in this conversion now that what brought it up was rather misrepresented.
There may still be info missing, Jennifer Hale could not have possibly taken up Bayonetta for $4000... But even with an incomplete story, right now this may lessen everyone’s hurt? Perhaps instead a win-win, but likely irrealizable solution would be, if us fans organize this ourselves.
For every copy of Bayonetta 3 we purchase, give Hellena Taylor a dollar or something, it would add up. Then use that to back a pledge/petition to Nintendo & Platinum stating: if they do not hire Hellena Taylor at a reasonable price for future projects, we will boycott any more games made in this franchise.
This way maybe we will not disrespect everyone else who worked on Bayonetta 3(including Grey DeLisle-Griffin), but at the same time show our love and respect for someone who’s a huge reason why we share and enjoy this passion, but herself got screwed over.
It also does not mean they would not be able to continue keeping Jennifer Hale in future projects, especially with introduction of multi-Bayonettas now.
They, are ALL, greats. Please get along.
