the fucking worst part abt blake is that like. he could have actually been a good interesting character if the writers werent constantly shoving calake in our faces everytime the two are on screen together. like, he’s a minor antagonist who’s clearly on the road to redemption, with a sick mom and a shitty dad as motivation for his actions and personality, but they only barely allude to that. instead of exploring those things fully and making his inevitable redemption end in a satisfying character arc, we’re just forced to watch him badly flirt with cal. if all the time in episodes that was dedicated to blake just straight up harassing cal was instead dedicated to exploring his backstory, or at LEAST having him interact with cal and the other characters in a way that isnt just “haha im an asshole, cal ur so hot date me”, it would be a much better show!! plus like, jonesy is not only clearly a better fit for cal (they actually LIKE each other for one, theyre the same age, and jonesy doesn’t fucking abuse cal like blake does), but also the writers KNOW that ppl would prefer jonecal and tease them being together on twit and shit while making calake happen in the actual show. the writers know EXACTLY what theyre doing, and dont care that the stuff theyre writing is gross abusive garbage. theyre reeling in viewers with healthy lgbt relationships, only to do a bait n switch and force an unhealthy relationship centered around a shitty man who doesnt care about who he hurts, and the main character who is like THREE YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM.
